My goodness, life doesn't get any more perfect than this. THIS is what we should all aspire to. I honestly can't get over the fact how BEAUTIFUL this is.
Thanks for the words. I have been taking a leave of absence for a bit from building these but I am considering making a Video training series to help people make these around the world when I get more time!
This is a great video...great picture quality, great cinematography and i really enjoyed listening to the owner talk about his little oasis he has. and of course the pool/pond itself is just gorgeous :)
Absolutely beautiful. Put in a small 250 gallon gold fish pond in my back yard an it didnt take long for me to think man ild love to swim in there lol. So I been checking out all the ponds that do. An that one is Gorgeous
Wish I could have that. We have an abundance of snakes though. The poison variety...They like swimming ponds too. Lol I have a small fish pond. But yours is sooo much nicer. You have a beautiful pond. Thanks for sharing.
A perfect small ecosystem that you've built. Beautiful pond. Commendable work !!!! I stay in India and we have a small farm in an area where water is plenty during the rains for about 4 months. I wish to build a similar pond. But importing the supplies from Helix Pond Filtrations will be too costly as the courier charges will be almost 5 times the cost of the hardware itself. There are several skimmers and Air Pumps which I can order online but how do I which ones are good for the pond and serve the best ? Also what is the size of the pond you built ? In the video a boy jumps in the pond, so what is the depth of the pond? Also what should be the minimum size of the pond ?
Thanks for that information. I'm also curious about pump head design. Is there a RUclips video that I might reference? How many pumps do we see operating in this pond video?
Good question. I haven't studied this yet but I have not noticed any problems with any of the brands we use on our kids or any of the ones our friends use. No plants or fish dying or anything like that.
Hi Jacob. This is a really nice work. Can you please share with me the technical info how this ecosystem works so that I can build my own one here in my backyard. Big thank from Vietnam. Cheers.
Wow from Vietnam! Sorry the nuts and bolts of this may be a bit complex to explain, but in a nut shell. Keep moving water running over the roots of plants and small rock 3/4 inch in size and let nature do the rest!
@@jacoblangeslag7887 Sorry for my late response. YT notification might have been unnoticed. Thanks for your reply. Is it similar to what has been spread around on internet which is called "wetland filter system"? Sorry, I have been doing a bit of homework on this but just wanna make sure I got the right info. Thanks again, Jake and keep your good work.
water is circulated via air and water pumps through gravel and plants to fitler. Very low maintenance. In the summer I may only have a few hours total. I can leave this thing and get busy with the family and then come back and go for a swim anytime. All the time it looks great and the local wildlife and birds love it. And no balancing chemicals or worry about chemical shortages with Covid!
I am in the twins cities too Love it My questions 1) how much did it cost you? That’s my biggest obstacle 2) how do you do with the fishes during winter time especially in Minnesota?
I live in Florida and and have an old in ground pool, and want to stop using the chemicals and make it natural..I also want it to have some goldfish and frogs in there..I plan on swimming in it along with my dogs..I have to make some kind of plant holders that will hang off the sides into the water...lilly pads look very nice...I might have to cut out part of the concrete deck inorder to have the separate area for the plants..not sure if I will have to keep using the big pump for circulation or just get a smaller one..I have already added a small waterfall...your place sure is beautiful and relaxing to look at.
Is you pond primarily in the sun or shade. I'd love to make a swimming pond, but most of the gardens of significant size in the UK are North / East facing, so are in shade for most of the time, it also depends on the height of the surrounding trees and buildings. Any tips would be great.
+Rabidavid Most of these ponds and this one are in about 50-50 sun shade during the day. We have installed ones in Full sun as well. I find those ones are nice to create shade with aquatic plants and lilies so either way you are good! Some ponds the shade comes from the trees, other ponds it comes from the plants within the pond. Good luck!
Hi- how long did ur water take to clear up? We just finished building our pool and are in the "cloudy" phase - hoping it won't last maybe more than a few weeks? Also- did you add any beneficial bacteria to your pool? Thanks!
The pond itself is gorgeous, but there was nothing about construction or design really. Wish we could see/read more about this project! What about microorganisms? Do you have to do anything to handle bacteria, protozoa, etc? Thanks!
GregJoshuaW I hope to write up some more articles about it and other videos when I get the chance. This was more of a concept video. The key for us to keep harmful bacteria and such at bay is to have extensive water circulation and currents. Good oxygen and no dead zones = healthy pond.
@@jacoblangeslag7887 great answer but yes some more detailed information would be very interesting. the flesh eating bacteria is getting to people on the east and south coasts, very scary stuff.
I love this! What are the dimensions of your pond and depth? I am in FL and really thinking of doing this. We live on a farm and starting digging a pond for my koi to be safe in(as opposed to our wild big farm ponds). I would have to add a pool cage to keep out alligators and snapping turtles too lol.
So good to hear that you have a connection with nature that most humans have lost...do you and your wife ever play meditation or relaxing music while you are enjoying your paradise?
I got this video link from the Pond Digger and I have 2 questions, 1st did the home owner do any of this work or was it all contracted and 2nd, what is the total watt usage of your pumping system. I would imagine that it runs 24/7 Thanks
Sorry I forgot to reply to comments and was not getting email alerts. We built the pond, the homeowner built the cabin etc. Waterfall pump is about 500watts but does not need to run all the time. Air pumps like 40 watts or so and they run 24/7
do you have any recomendations for documents or videos in how to build one? I am in Mexico, I dont know where to start , is beautiful what you did, thanks for sharing
I have a question. I want to build one of these with edible fish species. How would that work as far a coexisting with the fish and their waist and my children swimming?
Absolutely breathtaking 😍 I live in Texas and my biggest concern would be water moccasins visiting my pond😩 just curious how many gallons is this pond?
Not a big fan of clay as water gets murky when use and I like to see the bottom at all times when swimming! I also find that clay liners don't always hold up the best over time and have yet to find a contractor that will give you a guarantee that clay pond will hold water vs liner contractors that will give that guarantee.
It's beautiful!! But I've watched some news where journalists talk about this brain eating ameba that lives in water and that has killed people who swam in ponds like this one (there's no cure against it as far as I know), I would like to know your thoughts about this issue, how do you protect your pond and your family against these type of bugs?

yep. give me this and a porch swing to watch the sun going down on the pond. i can die a happy old man
Where can I find out more about the air powered water pumps used in this pond?
What would you like to know?
looks like the pond is enjoying a lot of moving water that is being raised two or three feet. What style of air pump are you using to accomplish this?
A diaphragm type air pump around 40 liter size.
Thanks for that information. I'm also curious about pump head design. Is there a RUclips video that I might reference? How many pumps do we see operating in this pond video?
Check out the guys from Brasil, on youtube type Ecosyslagos their ponds are amazing hope it helps with inspiring you for more sub tropical regions.
A tutorial is when you show how to do something. This was a review by your customer with awesome shots of his pond.
Sure - try the ponddigger channel for tutorial videos!
What do you do with it in the winter? Do the pumps have to me removed?
Yes I take out the water pumps and leave some of the air pumps going for the fish under the ice
Fantastic! I'm looking into this for my home in east Tennessee. Curious, what sunscreen do you recommend using for a fresh water ecosystem?

A diaphram air pump or rocking piston brand. Some of the piping has about 60 cfm and some at 80 cfm

yes
I have a question. I want to build one of these with edible fish species. How would that work as far a coexisting with the fish and their waist and my children swimming?
It's not a problem if you have a powerful filtration system like that
I would start with a low stocking rate and not feed the fish a ton.
When I get the money I’m going to do this. I like the idea of goldfish swimming up to you but they eat frog eggs so I don’t include those in my pond.
Beautiful! Just curious, do you have issues with snakes? If so, how do you keep them out?
No snake problems in Minnesota! Thank goodness
does this one has a filter?
You bet, filtered by plants!

+cedric sookunah Thanks - In Minnesota I am a big fan of liner to flex with the frost.

Not a big fan of clay as water gets murky when use and I like to see the bottom at all times when swimming!
