What Happens To Stanley After the Exemption finishes? Is he NBA Talent?

    • @tribalypredisposed
      @tribalypredisposed 2 года назад +6

He is definitely NBA talent, but probably not going to be in the league. If he got to Miami or San Antonio or Golden State where they can develop him, he could be a Wiggins type player two years from now. But I don't see how that happens. He just needs a good shooting coach and a coach and teammates that insists he shoot when he is open. You hear Warriors young guys and role players saying that everyone would be mad at them for not shooting, that is what he needs.

We have plenty of gifted offensive players. Malik Monk is starting to percolate on offense. We need a strong wing like him focused on at least making SGs and SFs work for it.

I think every case is different but I believe the NBA gives up on young players to early. Dude is 25 and already talking about a 2nd shot.. NBA isn’t a development league and if you don’t have it when they want you(before 23 years old) then they are done with you. Guys are drafted so young that by the time it’s year 4 or 5 people want them at 20 PPG but they are only 22 or 23 years old at that time. Pippen didn’t get to 20 points until 26 years old. Most players don’t get that skill and athleticism mix until age 26-28 let alone what team you on. League don’t have time to wait

I think Stanley Johnson is the perfect example of people judging talent too soon. Not everyone hits the ground running whether that be because of a bad fit, not polished in a certain area, not the coaches preferred player etc etc and I think Johnson is an example of a couple of those, but working on his game and developing him slowly seems to be gradually showing the rewards. Steve Nash didn't average over 10 points in his first few seasons but now he's retired people call him one of the greatest PG's ever. Is Johnson gonna be an all-time great? Most likely no. Could he be a solid player in the NBA today? IMO yes he can. Can he revive his career and get rid of his bust label? IMO again yes. NBA teams today search high and low for good defenders and i think Stanley Johnson could easily be developed into a very solid 3&D Wing!

@@NYCShaolin718 this is my second time watching this video, and I have to say you nailed it. If you watch the last game of the 2021-22 season, Stanley Johnson dribbles to the free throw line and freezes mid-air when he hears the whistle.
Wenyen Gabriel has to pull Johnson on the side and explain to Stanley that you should ALWAYS shoot it when you hear the whistle. I think deep down, SJ knew that, but like you said, his confidence has been permanently affected by his clashes with Van Gundy.

Van Gundy was/is such an overrated coach, and great point on his style; good on an established veteran team but bad for a team with young players that need development. Success is so often based on being drafted by the right organization with a proper coach.
I always thought S. Johnson's best comp. was Ron Artest; a strong 6'-6" to 6'7" SF defensive minded player that eventually would develop better perimeter skills. Artest probably wasn't as athletic as Johnson, but more skilled as a ball-handler and shooter.

If Stanley Johnson isn't signed for the remainder of the season by the Los Angeles Lakers, he will get another 10-day contract from a team with a hardship exemption to give. NBA teams are desperate during this CoViD outbreak, and Johnson is definitely better than some of the other G-League scrubs that have been signed under the hardship rule.
Even if Johnson isn't ideal, L.A. has already agreed to trade Rajon Rondo to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Denzel Valentine. There is no doubt they will waive Valentine, as the deadline to waive him is really close.
This waiver will open up a roster spot for the Lakers to sign Stanley. Regardless of Johnson's shortcomings, the team is winning games while giving him minutes.
Coach Frank Vogel all but showed the Lakers hand by starting Johnson the past two games. Stanley projects as a bench player once Anthony Davis returns or Ariza ramps up to peak form after his stint in CoViD protocols.
But the Lakers need immediate help now, and even get some salary cap relief by sliding SJ into Rondo's spot. 💁🏻‍♂️🏀

That’s what makes the NBA the best league. Your weaknesses get exposed a that level. They are the 0.000000001 of the best and that’s what makes having any type of NBA career so great. Stanley is strong and physical but he’s not Tall enough for that to be enough. He’s not super skilled enough like Luka to get away with being a little slow footed. And in reality isn’t slow footed he would kill 99.9999 percent of average hoopers but at that level a little slow of foot not having a consistent shot or height is what you get with Stanley. If he was a little faster and shoot better he would be a solid starter. The NBA is vicious as far as talent is concerned.

People want these kids to have right to go the league regardless of their age but don’t want to be patient enough to let them mature and develop. Not everyone can come in and dominate from day one. And one year in college for the majority of them isn’t enough time to gage their potential and ceiling. Guys like AD KD and Kyrie are the exception not the rule. Maybe the new NIL rule will convince more guys to stick around and develop for a bit before going to the league now they can capitalize financially while they’re still in college.

Having a guy like SJ that is a big athlete with a high motor and can play some D is a welcome addition imo. Y'all need to chill d fact Stsnley didn't just develop is not on d pistons. Devin Booker had 5 coaches in 5 years multiple Gms, and horrible front office. Hornacek didn't play him much either in year 1 but he worked on himself and showed out whenever he was given the opportunity

He lost hope when his mom died, he only cared about doing the bare minimum after that. As long as he was getting paid he had no heart for the game

I always saw him as a poor man’s Joe Johnson. Built, strong and a tall guard. But Joe had handles and a jumper. Stan is whatever’s underneath the poor man’s version. His Jumpshot always was Broken. The release point is too low and his body seems twisted on the wind up to shoot. As if his feet are stuck in something and he’s trying to get free to get the shot off.

Thank goodness for Stanley. It’s obvious AD and Westbrook have been loafing on D. AD relies on his size Westbrook is always late to cover or help. Stanley guards 2 players from key to post and he defends the area. 🙏🏽
