    Cavs picking up Bennett definitely was a huge growth stunt & had no business going 1st overall which he was projected to go 9th, but it’s not going to change the fact that he’s the biggest bust in NBA history

  • @bigman52100
    @bigman52100 3 года назад +1

    The real issue though is that Anthony Bennett was never even in the conversation as the 1#pick in 2013. It was supposed to be Nerlens Noel but due to his injury he fell down right to #6. Cleveland had big shoes to fill as they needed help at every position except for pg. Victor Oladipo should've been 1# but everyone was concerned about his size and shooting ability as a shooting guard. Otto porter wasn't appealing either so Cleveland basically said YOLO and hoped for the best with Bennett's game.🤷‍♂️

    Outside of Giannis, Rudy Gobert, CJ McCollum, and Victor Oladipo, the 2013 Draft was bad. Those four guys should been the top four picks and after that, the NBA Draft should’ve called it a night.

    The 2013 draft was not the worst draft of the past 20 years. If a draft class has a MVP winner, multiple all stars/borderline all stars, and DPOYs then it’s not a bad draft class by default.

    You should do an entire video on the Cleveland Cavs commentators and their waning enthusiasm for Bennet and his missed shots… it was hysterical, especially as Bennet continued to miss and have a lousy NBA season… this was prior to Kyrie and Lebron’s rings… pretty funnny

    When you mentioned Markelle’s playful demeanour when first getting drafted, I think of Anthony Edwards being something a lot similar if not a lot more playful, and he’s thriving at the moment.
    Having said that, you might be on to something. Markelle in Orlando seems a lot more measured, I found this to be the case based on his appearsnce on JJ Redicks podcast

    I used to watch the NBA draft year in and year out. And I remember watching the 2013 draft, and when Bennett was drafted #1 I was like "how is this guy?!" I watched a lot of College basketball on tv, and while I did hear his name a time or two and some highlights, I never saw the skills or fight in him that commanded # 1 status. It goes to show NA talent evaluators aren't always geniuses.

    I think that him being drafted as the #1 pick, is probably what messed him up the most. Because what comes with being the number one pick, is high expectations. And he wasn't able to live up to that. But had he been drafted in the later rounds, he might've thrived in the NBA. Because the expectations for him then, would've been way lower.

    • @masterchiefwasdonedirty9705
      @masterchiefwasdonedirty9705 3 года назад

      You could actually argue he should have not been drafted at all. Dude had no work ethic and couldn't handle adversity. He was used to being bigger than other guys in college and once things got hard at the NBA level, he gave up. Him being the No 1 pick is the reason teams kept trying to give him shots, from the D League to even the Houston Rockets as far back as 2019. If he wasn't a No 1 pick, he would have been out of the league much quicker than he already was.
