The green comparison was spot on tbh. When you look at him in unlv. He showed the type of skill set you’d want in a player like him. Not number 1 but definitely a 1st round talent. He was and still is a lot more gifted than green but sadly he never had the right mentality.

I used to watch the NBA draft year in and year out. And I remember watching the 2013 draft, and when Bennett was drafted #1 I was like "how is this guy?!" I watched a lot of College basketball on tv, and while I did hear his name a time or two and some highlights, I never saw the skills or fight in him that commanded # 1 status. It goes to show NA talent evaluators aren't always geniuses.
Bennett actually became a decent player, at least 3pt shooter, at some point in his career. Had he not gotten hurt in pre season with the Rockets in 2019 who knows?
I think that him being drafted as the #1 pick, is probably what messed him up the most. Because what comes with being the number one pick, is high expectations. And he wasn't able to live up to that. But had he been drafted in the later rounds, he might've thrived in the NBA. Because the expectations for him then, would've been way lower.
You could actually argue he should have not been drafted at all. Dude had no work ethic and couldn't handle adversity. He was used to being bigger than other guys in college and once things got hard at the NBA level, he gave up. Him being the No 1 pick is the reason teams kept trying to give him shots, from the D League to even the Houston Rockets as far back as 2019. If he wasn't a No 1 pick, he would have been out of the league much quicker than he already was.

I moved to Vegas the year he got drafted and everyone here thought he would be the next Lebron on the Cavs. I was even sold on the hype. I think this is the biggest bust in NBA history.

The 2013 draft was not the worst draft of the past 20 years. If a draft class has a MVP winner, multiple all stars/borderline all stars, and DPOYs then it’s not a bad draft class by default.

When you mentioned Markelle’s playful demeanour when first getting drafted, I think of Anthony Edwards being something a lot similar if not a lot more playful, and he’s thriving at the moment.
Having said that, you might be on to something. Markelle in Orlando seems a lot more measured, I found this to be the case based on his appearsnce on JJ Redicks podcast

I used to watch the NBA draft year in and year out. And I remember watching the 2013 draft, and when Bennett was drafted #1 I was like "how is this guy?!" I watched a lot of College basketball on tv, and while I did hear his name a time or two and some highlights, I never saw the skills or fight in him that commanded # 1 status. It goes to show NA talent evaluators aren't always geniuses.

Bennett actually became a decent player, at least 3pt shooter, at some point in his career. Had he not gotten hurt in pre season with the Rockets in 2019 who knows?

I think that him being drafted as the #1 pick, is probably what messed him up the most. Because what comes with being the number one pick, is high expectations. And he wasn't able to live up to that. But had he been drafted in the later rounds, he might've thrived in the NBA. Because the expectations for him then, would've been way lower.
You could actually argue he should have not been drafted at all. Dude had no work ethic and couldn't handle adversity. He was used to being bigger than other guys in college and once things got hard at the NBA level, he gave up. Him being the No 1 pick is the reason teams kept trying to give him shots, from the D League to even the Houston Rockets as far back as 2019. If he wasn't a No 1 pick, he would have been out of the league much quicker than he already was.
