Don't you mean that he has shuffled off his personality over the decades? What is there even left in him anymore? He has NOTHING in him, compared to this raw, intense version of himself. When you remove ability to hate, you remove ability to love. These things go hand in hand; there is no other without each of them. If there is no hate and love, there is _indifference_. THERE is your modern Scrooge personality; child-like indifference to everything (there are STILL some exceptions to this, mostly from pre-modern era. Modern artists who lack personality themselves (an outcome of modern socialising society), produce only soulless art. Like modern Scrooge, who has only emptiness growing inside of him, for his spirit (his hatred) has been taken away.
