Thank you....I just blew the heater core hose....it cracked right at the crimp. I thought I was going have the truck towed to a garage to fix it. Your straight forward explanation of everything was spot on. I just disconnected everything in about 15 min in the rain. That last plastic manifold at the rear was a bear...but it came off. The larger hoses came off just by Squeezing the white plastic clips... The aluminium lines I needed to squeeze the clips with needle nose players and they gently came out. Great Video! My heater hose broke in the *same exact* place for my 07 Chevy Suburban. The best thing about this video was that he showed the part numbers. I had been searching on line and had gone to my local AutoZone/Advanced Auto and no one could seem to find the right part for the smaller hose that attached to the black T-connector. I searched the hose number he listed and found it in 30 seconds. I'm subscribed now.
Thank you How To!!! My son was driving when the hose broke, scared him to death, the potential bill for the repair scared me more. Your video was spot on - i was able to buy parts from GM dealer for $185 and do the repaid myself, thanks (bet you saved me at least $500 -$600 (maybe or more)! I will be coming back for more how to's?!
Mine is leaking now, I bought the part online from seller JUSTAUTOZONE2007 and it arrived yesterday. I measured it against the old hose and it is a perfect fit. Shipping on EBAY for parts guarantees that the part will fit (or not fit) your vehicle. I've been buying parts online from eBay for years, I've never ever got a wrong part. As long as you have the correct information about your vehicle, every part is exact. The hose was $27.89 plus tax $1.95, so I paid $29.84, less than $30.00, compared to your $185.00 , such a big mark-up, such a big SAVINGS. I highly recommend shopping on eBay for all your parts needs. A savings of $155.00 is much needed in this day and time, for me anyway.
Thanks for clearly showing what tabs to squeeze in for removal at 4:20 I could not tell if I needed to squeeze in the outer portion, or the inner portion which actually locks the fitting in place. Very good video. What works for me best, first remove with the big tabs at the very back first. The little tabs at the front can be difficult in letting go. If you have to break the clips that hold the tabs, your installing new ones anyways, just don't bend the metal tubing. I just did this job with all new hose, like you. Nice work on the video. You're helping people save a lot of money by doing it themselves.
Great job brother. I had a leak in both my hoses followed your video and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much. It’s always good to see people taking their time to share their knowledge. I appreciate it so much..
Just finished replacing both heater hoses and T connectors. Great video helped me out a lot! I tried squeezing the clips but the connector wouldn't release. After an hour of fighting with them i eventually broke the tabs which then made pop out easily. Glad I'm done with the repair. Cheers
Very informative. I’ve been fighting with my Yukon for two hours now, trying to figure these fittings out (multiple beer break of course). Now I know what to do...thank you.
Thanks for the video. Was done in 10 minutes using my fingers to pinch the clip and pull it off. Appreciate it as I thought I needed a tool I didn't have to get the job done.
If a fitting can be over-engineered, leave it to GM to do just that. One should not have to have a video to show how to replace a heater hose. Good video tho'.
I just had the exact same one break that you held up in the video. (Few hours ago) I was lucky enough to cut it off and hose clamp it onto the stub remaining and filled it up with coolant. But I had no idea what the part was. And now I found your video. You are extremely talented and it shows with your confidence and knowledge. 👍👍 Don't mean to sound too much of an ass kisser but when that damn thang broke I thought my fn truck was on fire 😂 I got out heading towards my fire extinguisher until I saw the liquid pouring out the passanger side area under the truck. Excellent video. Looking forward to doing the job first thing in the morning. You made it look easy and that’s what Pros do. Thanks you saved me some money.
Thanks Brian, looks like you hit the spot on how to approach the most recent problem in my life. But, say, I'm wondering if there is any issue with replacing only the hose connector that broke, and not both segments? I have a 2007 Tahoe 5.3L, the black connector suddenly snapped, fortunately just prior to pulling into my driveway. Also, from your presentation there is a discrepancy with the lower attachments, on my vehicle, the left black connected hose feeds to the lower front inlet. Thank you. CTC
@@natenoskill1976 yes, I was able to replace just the left hose fastener... cut the factory clamp device off, losing about 1.25 inch, still enough to go on the fitting with a ring clamp. Only needed the distal piece, although did not realize until had the entire y-shape fitting off ( very difficult, had to break it off ).
Brian, excellent how to. I love my GMvehicles but honestly some of their engineering is not user friendly. The quick disconnect fittings are certainly not quick. The fitting for draining the radiator is a disaster trying to get to and utilize. It's easier to just drain the radiator by removing the lower hose on the opposite side of the radiator. Regardless, you have done an outstanding video, thanks.
10/10 on the instructions! Wish I had the extra tools but was able to take the bottom of the hose off with a sharp enough knife. That process took the most time of the process’s Seems this was only the fix for a reaction and not the original cause. Engine temp is still out of normal. Any suggestions? Maybe the thermostat caused the original problem?
Good video. An important take away I got from this video is that the white & black tees are different sizes. I did this job a week ago & it leaks. I used Dorman tees bought at Advance Auto & was sold 2 white tees that are the SAME part #. I put a white tee where the black one goes & the aluminum line leaks now. Going to GM tomorrow
That’s why you go with factory replacement parts, the people at these part stores are there to just sell parts ( right or wrong😂). This is not a pleasant job and especially not fun if you have to do it twice !!!!
Thank very much for your video that was very helpful and that way you explain it very good you get a 110 from me awesome video keep it up brother God bless you
great video dude thanks i had that problem with my suburban 08 my mechanic was replacing some spark plugs he was sititng on the engine to reach down there to one of them leaning against the one with the black fitting and cracked the hose , long story short my wife on her way to work noticed smoke coming out of engine, then also on her way back home also truck overheated so i checked and the hose with the black fitting had snapped out of place so it seems like it was cracked and finally burst on her way back home thats why the smoke. thanks for being clear on the parts to order.
Man I did this myself watching your video didnt have the pick tool to get under the hose and boy that sucker was hard to remove but I got it off and put everything in and good as new !
Brian, what kind of work platform were you using to access the connections from the front of the vehicle? It looks as though it was some kind of device that allows you to lean forward over the front of the vehicle and pull the hoses straight forward, rather than trying to work from over the right fender. I have an old elevated platform called a Topside Creeper that will be forced into action this afternoon. I was hoping to have just a 30 minute of less encounter like some of the lucky commenters, but that didn't happen. I agree with the other commenters: best description and video showing how the plastic locking tabs actually work, and how to get them to release. Kudos to you. DGBryan
If you have a topside creeper, you have already won half the battle and are very lucky. !!! Also video editing is a great thing, nothing goes a smoothly as the video depicts, all the cursing and tool throwing is usually edited out😂 but this video is the best I’ve found in correctly replacing these hoses and fittings.

Did you have to clean the ends of the aluminum tubes with any solvent/brake cleaner and put anything on the ends of the tubes (i.e. grease, soapy water) before installing the tee connectors?
Great video!! I just did this job last night on my 2001 Suburban. Not one of the tabs would release. Bought 4 tools that parts store had... not one worked. Spent 2 1/2 hours carefully chiseling off the old parts. What a crap design!!! Any tips for when the clips don't want to release? Thanks in advance.
Well, shazaaam, shazaaam..... a near miracle to come across a youtube video actually showing, in useful detail, just how to deal with these (MISERABLE) quick-disconnect fittings on GM hoses.... Jumpin' jehosophat, amazing..... Imagine, it IS actually possible to quickly disconnect a "quick disconnect" fitting. Too bad GM never bothered to put a DIY video on just how to work with these awful things. (had me thinking all these years they were designed so folks would give up in despair and take it to the gm stealerships.....) Rant over. Thanks again, one of the more useful youtube diy videos, for this one narrow tip.
Thank you very much. I got the new white fitting on, and getting a small drip, from what looks like the non heater core metal connection point... any ideas?
Hey buddy hope you get this message. The hose that goes to the black tee, i just cut the crimp part off and just put a new connection with a clamp. Would it leak?
Can a heater core flush be done without disconnection at the Tees. I dont understand the relation of the AC system tees tying into the core with thoes T connectors... I just want to flush the darn core and be done
Thanks for sharing this awesome and well explain video but i got a question i just did mine today and now i see vapor coming out my vents and a lot smell of coolant? Do you know why or what should I do?
I just bought a 2004 Cadillac Escalade with the 6.0 and it’s leaking coolant from somewhere and I can’t find it. No wet spots on the floor. Would replacing these hoses help? the water pump was replaced but still it leaks. Also it only smell like coolant outside the truck. The smell comes from the water pump, thermostat side of the engine only
This seems to be EXACTLY the problem w/my 2009 Tahoe. Same hose, same break. It looks a little more complicated than I was led to believe. Questions: I am extremely budget limited, and this is my only vehicle, so time is important as well. Also, my Tahoe while dependable and maintained in a timely manner, is a rebuild, so I am okay w/NOT GM manufacture parts, as in this case, the cheaper but dependable method/parts are best. I am not clear on why both hoses needed to be disconnected from the motor, while only one is broke off from the connection at firewall? Any help as to the necessities vs extras of this job video, I am so thankful!
Those plastic fittings get brittle over time going through numerous heat cycles causing the “O” rings to leak. Since this is not a real pleasant job most people find it cheaper in the long run to just replace both, with GM parts to assure proper fit, and to save on expensive antifreeze. However, you can go the cheaper route and pay a repair shop $500 for a piece of rubber hose and 2 clamps, and still have a leak !!! That’s what I did, but I assure you that will never happen again !!! I got the GM replacement parts and did the job right for half that myself. But it’s your vehicle, you can do whatever is best for you.
Started truck let it idle coolant did not drop had to shut it off let it sit about 5 minutes opened the cap and coolant was sucked down only worked twice hasn’t worked since would this be a sign of a bad thermostat? Both top and bottom hoses are hot
All I did was cut the factory clamp off the hose that snapped off in the beginning of the video. It has enough slack to just add a clamp. No need to replace the T fitting.
Yeah I did that too. Two weeks later T broke on the highway. Lost most of my coolant and had to get towed home. Should of done it right from the get go. Thanks for the part numbers Axle's Garage
Over time the plastic fittings and “O” rings in the plastic fittings will deteriorate ( get brittle) and leak. My Tahoe blew a heater hose coming home from work one morning, didn’t have time to fix it so a shop charged me $500 for a piece of rubber hose and two clamps………….. it still leaked !!!! Never again. I ordered the GM parts and did the proper replacement myself.
Great video. The part number on the bigger hose that is a Y is not shown in the video. You try to point it out but it’s above the QTY 1 and it’s not shown.
There’s no rules saying you have to replace them both at the same time but I guarantee you the next one will leak soon after. Especially after you been in the area touching things.
the 2nd hose you connected, where did you get that from because the part you linked isnt the same. Im looking for one with the quick disconnect attached already
Chris S I’m pretty sure that the same on the flex fuel. I would recommend replacing the fittings they are weak point and at some point they will go out.
hi, whats the name of the Y connector on the minute 1:50 everybody its telling me that is the heater hose connector, but that one is the one connected to the firewall... I need to know the Y shaped name por replace it in a 2006 escalade ext thanks!
Erick Garza Belloso I believe you were talking about the heater hose that goes from the reservoir to the side of the water pump.. it’s not a TV it’s built into the hose.
@@HowtoAutomotive yes I'm sorry to bother, I watch the entire video and assumed that the only way to get that part is buying the entire hose assembly. Very helpful and thank you for the detailed explanation!
mine broke in same spot yesterday while driving on my 2007 yukon xl. stealership charged me about $900 ($200 parts + $600 labor + $100 coolant flush/fill)
The affiliate link for the straight hose is very different than the one you have from GM. It looks like that one is just hose, but it doesn't have the metal piece on the one end. I'm confused. Do you need to add your own connector to make that work?

hi! I have an 08 Tahoe. And I have the same problem. I want to be sure if the number of parts that you show are for my truck? thanks.
Thanks for the video, saved me time and knuckles
your examples are spot on!
What size hose assembly removal tool do you use for 08 avalanche?
I got the new white fitting on, and getting a small drip, from what looks like the non heater core metal connection point... any ideas?
Great video i was able to do mine in 30 minutes thanks
Victor Flores Awesome glad it all worked out. Thank you for watching!
awesome! right on time. i just had a hose break. do i need the t? or can i just get something to connect it back to the original t?
DONNIE WHITE I would get the tea. It could break just as easy to see other portion of it.
DONNIE WHITE there links in the description for the parts.
Might be a dumb question but I see one black connector and one white connector is that because of a particular reasn
My hose snapped just like the one in this video same hose and same crack. My question is does the T have to be replaced or is it just recommend?
It’s highly recommend it. Most likely it will break when you try to replace it or it will leak after you’re done.
Great video, straight to the point and left no question unanswered...Outstanding
What was the genuine GM part number for the second hose? It wasn't shown in the video. Thanks
Thanks a lot. And GLORY BE TO GOD ALMIGHTY AND TO HIS SON JESUS CHRIST 🙏🏾💪🏾
Very good job on your video you You didn't play any dumb music show what you're eating for lunch. Video was very informative thank you
Does the black T connector suppose to have a o ring in it the white does but not the black one
Great job and description....you are the man
Thank you!
Hey buddy hope you get this message. The hose that goes to the black tee, i just cut the crimp part off and just put a new connection with a clamp. Would it leak?
The only way to tell is if you can pressure test it.
Great video... straight forward fix
Can a heater core flush be done without disconnection at the Tees. I dont understand the relation of the AC system tees tying into the core with thoes T connectors... I just want to flush the darn core and be done
Only the the hose with the black fitting broke just like in the video. Do both black and white fitting plus both hoses need to be replaced?
Thanks for sharing this awesome and well explain video but i got a question i just did mine today and now i see vapor coming out my vents and a lot smell of coolant? Do you know why or what should I do?
It’s possible the heater core is leaking or just some cool got during the repair or if the hose broke. And it should burn off in a while
Ohh ok thanks I will check for a leak
I did the same thing.
@@M21-w1y mines is still holding up with no leaks.
If the fitting snapped the t is likely next... Oem recommends replacing the whole mess every 5 years... Ridiculous!
Awesome awesome how to video.. thank you so much!!
Thank you for watching!
Hey man, what hose is that? The one that broke off, is it the inlet hose ?
Good job! What's the difference between the black and white T's? Can u use 2 black ones instead of one white?
I don't believe so did you find out?
I'm here for these comments I think I have them mixed up as well but no drips
Would you happen to know if those part numbers for the tees and heater hoses would be the same on a 2009 cadillac escalade?
Thanks for the good info keep up the good work
Is there a difference between the part being white or black? Are you able to swap them around or are they different other than color? Thanks..
They are different sizes
Does one of the hoses need a special dealership key to remove? I was told this.
Great video. The part number on the bigger hose that is a Y is not shown in the video. You try to point it out but it’s above the QTY 1 and it’s not shown.
Does this process make reduce engine go off to my hose snap while driving
Do you have to replace both hoses I just had one snap off I just want to replace that one
There’s no rules saying you have to replace them both at the same time but I guarantee you the next one will leak soon after. Especially after you been in the area touching things.
the 2nd hose you connected, where did you get that from because the part you linked isnt the same. Im looking for one with the quick disconnect attached already
How much coolant does it take to refill it when replaced.
Do you have link for parts
Just to make sure...can this work for 2007 Tahoe 5.3L FlexFuel? And do I really need to replace the Ts? My mechanic said I should only buy the hoses.
Chris S I’m pretty sure that the same on the flex fuel. I would recommend replacing the fittings they are weak point and at some point they will go out.
How to Automotive Thanks for responding.
How to Automotive Thanks again for the information. One more question. Can I re-use the pinch clamps?
What is the gold one under it called? Its on the other metal line. Mine is leaking from that gold part.
Thanks man you help me solve the problem you made it very simple
Skyhook glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
My hose popped off and I was wondering if I should just buy the straight hose or the straight hose and the tee
It’s very common for the tes’s to leak or break. I would recommend replacing them both
hi, whats the name of the Y connector on the minute 1:50 everybody its telling me that is the heater hose connector, but that one is the one connected to the firewall...
Good straight forward to the point
Thanks for sharing
Can I use the old clips , or do I have to buy some. The hose I bought doesn't have them on the end that goes to the heater core
jerald smith You can reuse the old clips. Just give it a tug and make sure it’s not gonna come back off.
mine broke in same spot yesterday while driving on my 2007 yukon xl. stealership charged me about $900 ($200 parts + $600 labor + $100 coolant flush/fill)
Great video. Keep up the good work
what is the part number to where the heater hoses and resevoir tank hose connect to? the 3 way connector
The affiliate link for the straight hose is very different than the one you have from GM. It looks like that one is just hose, but it doesn't have the metal piece on the one end. I'm confused. Do you need to add your own connector to make that work?
