Voctave made this video during the pandemic. They reached out on social media for people to be part of the virtual choir. As you can see, people from around the world answered the call.
@@nickhiggsthesinger You have a sympathetic subscriber in me. To be honest I cannot have any other response as I have quirk in my brain. I cannot respond to a special and an emotional event with goosebumps. I go straight to tears. I have been that way since I was 5. Also, Voctave always makes me cry. Usually, it is the first time Kate Lott hits one of her high-high notes. She reminds me of my mother who could also hit those notes with a warmth that is uncommon for singers able to hit those notes.
I was a part of the virtual choir. I rehearsed multiple times before recording, and we got to hear it come together before the video came out. One of my best experiences ever
Yes, the first solo tenor, Jamey Ray, does their arrangements. I believe he also teaches college music classes. He is brilliant. I hope you do more Voctave. They don't have tons of music videos, unfortunately. Everything they do is lovely, and they DOMINATE my Christmas playlist! EJ Cardona, the"tenor on the right" you liked so much, is featured in O Come All Ye Faithful and This is My Wish/Peace on Earth
I'm so glad you've discovered Voctave! An absolutely amazing ensemble! They will leave you speechless everytime, trust me!! 😊 Can't wait for you to react to more of their music! Love your channel!!
Thank you so much! And thanks for the comment - it always helps boost the video! Would love to see more of your feedback on my other videos! Stay tuned for more (PS - if you hit the little bell icon next to subscribe, it will notify you when I post!!)
Really appreciated your heartfelt reaction to Voctave. Voctave is a unique a cappella group comprised of 11 phenomenal singers. If you want a feel for individual talent, check out their Disney Princess Medley which features all the women and then their Disney Heroes and Villains Medley that features all of the men. If you'd like a little Broadway, give a listen to Impossible Dream, a soprano solo, Somewhere which features each member, and Goodnight My Someone, another soprano solo. For Christmas, there's O Come All Ye Faithful, a tenor solo, Mary, Did You Know, featuring Mark Lowry who actually co-wrote the song, Where Are You Christmas with surprise soloist, and O Come All Ye Faithful/The First Noel/I Wonder as I Wander with different featured singers. This barely scratches the surface. And while we're on the a cappella train, I know that you're already familiar with Pentatonix and VoicePlay, but you should also check out Home Free. With that said, I look forward to many more of your reactions. Happy listening!!!
I found Voctave a while ago from their Disney Medley featuring Kirstin from Pentatonix. Their sound is something else. One of their recent ones I loved is “Somewhere” from West side story
Yep. Voctave with punch you squarely in the feels. Every. Time. The Voctave rabbit hole is very deep and very deeply satisfying. Well done! Liked, Subscribed, and looking forward to more Voctave reactions!
A most excellent reaction! I cried too. It's so beautiful. Looks like it was made during Covid. Helping people feel less alone. Thank you so much. I appreciate you showing your emotions and more than that not apologizing for them. Music just does this and needs no apologies. 💗
So I've never seen "Dear Evan Hansen" and now I NEED to. This hit me so hard and I am crying right here with you Nick. In all honesty, lately I've been feeling the need of "being found". Job loss, uncertainty of the future and feeling like I'm breaking multiple friendships and relationships. This song hit me in the soul, and I want to thank VOCTAVE for it. I also want to thank you Nick. I haven't commented on every video but your channel has been a place where I have found a new appreciation for music and have also learned so much. It's also just a place where I can come and get away from all the crap life throws my way (as well as all of our ways). Even if it's not my kind of music, seeing your appreciation for what you're reacting to will bring a smile to my face, and sometimes it's the only time that day I smile. So, for your reactions, for your voice, for your insight and your consistency and presence I want to say thank you Nick!
Beautiful words - thank you so much for sharing! I am so happy you enjoy the videos, and am happy you and I (and the rest of the audience) can connect through music. Please feel free to comment on other videos and share your feedback - you clearly have a lot to say and I think others will feel comforted by your words. Thanks again, and stay tuned for next time!
Voctave has an incredible repertoire! "Dear Evan Hansen" is extraordinarily popular with the 18-30 crowd. They sang "You Could Be Found" in a way that I've never heard before. With 2-3 sopranos, 2-3 altos, 3 tenors, a baritone, and 2 basses, and their incredibly sophisticated arrangements, this group makes choir music very exciting!
One of my degrees is also in music and I've sung in more a capella groups than you can shake a stick at so when I started following them years ago I knew how special they were. My first time visiting EPCOT at Disney World back in the 80s I fell in love with Voices of Liberty in the American Pavilion. Years later when I discovered Voctave, their sound was very similar, and come to find out ALL of them have sung or currently sing at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and most with Voices of Liberty. Jamey, a music professor at Rollins College on the north side of Orlando, also sang with Voices and that's how he met most of them. He began writing a capella arrangements of different songs and getting people from Disney to come record them for him. Eventually they did the Disney Love Medley and Jeremy Michael Lewis was the one who really encouraged Jamey to solidify the group and get a name etc. Hence, Voctave was formed. According to an interview with Jamey Ray the name comes from the V being roman numeral for 5 and the group covers 5 octaves, so they are a V octave group, hence Voctave. When Jamey writes the arrangements he knows the vocal range of each of the members so he writes each part specifically for that person. So instead of writing a part for a first Sopprano, he writes it for Kate Lott in particular. Although I don't know if they have found the top of Kate's register. She hits a G6 effortlessly in Mary Did You Know. I really appreciated your reaction to them so I'm following you now with the bell icon turned on. I really look forward to hearing you discover more of their incredible music. Nothing that they have done is bad, but some of it is just incredible. The Prince of Egypt Medley is a marathon of incredible music. The Great Movie Medley is an homage to Jon Williams and its the reason I call Voctave a vocal orchestra. Fan favorites include the Disney Princess Medley, Heroes & Villains, and Someday. They have collaborated with a number of artists like Jody McBrayer, Rachel Potter, Paint, Mark Lowry, Sandi Patty, Kirsten Maldonado & Jeremy Michael Lewis as well as groups like The Rollins Singers, Vocal Majority, & Mariachi Cobre. Some of their songs are so fun that you can't stop smiling like The Trolly Song, Disney 90s TV Medley, Snow, and We Need A Little Christmas. Other songs will bring you to tears like Where Are You Christmas? An interesting interview you might personally like is The Creators of The Voices of Liberty & Voctave talk choral music with J.W.Pepper. Enjoy the deep dive into Voctave!
My friend, you must - MUST - add Voctave to your regular reaction rotation. "You Will Be Found" is certainly excellent, but is largely "safe" musically to account for the virtual choir. React to more of their recordings to hear even more superb arrangements and see each member highlighted in various songs. Many reactors start with "Disney Princess Medley," though I personally recommend the musicianship displayed in "Mary, Did You Know?" Regardless of which you choose, you really can't go wrong!
I'll start with two words.... Jamey Ray. Creator of the group and the arranger of magic. This group is, in my opinion, the best ensemble currently singing music. They have so many wonderful things to hear that it's difficult to pick, "what next?" You will get a LOT of suggestions on what to do next. In my opinion, it doesn't matter. Their "best" is a matter of personal taste. Most of their music gives me shivers (goose bumps). Good luck navigating the rabbit hole!
I'll go with a couple "lesser-known" performances. Try "The Impossible Dream, or "The Andrews Sisters Medley." Even if you don't do a reaction for them, they are fantastic. I LOVE their Disney Heroes and Villains piece. It's my favorite Disney tribute. BUT... all the other Disney stuff is excellent! It's an all-you-can-eat buffet. Okay, I mean all you can hear.
Voctave is incredible. VoicePlay and Voctave are my absolute top tier favorites and Voctave always makes me cry. Jamey is extremely skilled at arranging. My favorites of theirs are The Great Movie Medley, Disney Princess Medley and Disney Love Medley. But my all time favorite, ball your eyes out is Mary Did You Know featuring the writer, Mark Lowry. Oh Come All Ye Faithful is also gorgeous. ❤ Please watch them as reactions!!
Nick, welcome to the "rabbit hole". Your vocal training was awesome to watch you hear things the average listener wouldn't. Can I suggest; Disney Love Medley with Kristin from PTX, Disney Princess Medley that shows off the incredible women in the group, Disney's Villain & Heroes that shows off the men, The Great Movie Medley is amazing, The Prince of Egypt, Somewhere and if you like Christmas; O Holy Night, O Come all ye faithful, Mary did you know (featuring the writer of the song) and Where are you Christmas. You will not be sorry you listened to each and every one of these selections.
Welcome to the Voctave rabbit hole! Listen to all their Playlists and Albums on their RUclips channel because their body of work is just that good. They do all this despite being a part-time group with limited rehearsal and recording time. As others have suggested, I also recommend "Disney Princess Medley" for solos from all 5 women. "Disney Heroes & Villains Medley" is even better and features solos from all 6 men. "Prince of Egypt Medley" is audio only but it may be their best work to date.
Oh Nick - I am so glad you discovered Voctave. They have been one of my go-too favorite groups for a few years now, since I saw their Disney Love Medley. You need to check out their Christmas selections - O Come All Ye Faithful, Mary Did You Know and Where Are You Christmas - OMG! Have tissues handy and enjoy those harmonies, those crunches, and those amazing modulations that Jamey Ray comes up with.
Voctave is an amazing group of extremely talented people. So glad you found them. Their Prince of Egypt medley and their Disney content are phenomenal. The tenor that you liked is EJ Cardona. Amazing voice. O come all ye faithful is one of his stand out pieces that will blow your mind!
Lovely. Voctave are new to me too - I watched this because I enjoy your reactions so much. This song and the choir reduced me to tears too, which hasn't happened for a long time, and always means it's excellent music. I've avoided listening to Voctave as I'm a staunch Pentaholic - this does feel rather like cheating. Great reaction, Nick and thanks for the introduction to Voctave - a whole new acapella journey.
What a GREAT reaction to a world class group! They choke me up almost every time. But i would like to make a request for a reaction....Over the ear headphones and no pre looking....Jacob Collier, O2 performance. This one will also drop your jaw. :)
Just subscribed to your channel. How exciting that you just discovered Voctave. You will benefit greatly from their Disney Princess Medley featuring the women of the group, Disney Love Medley with Kirsten Maldonado and her then-boyfriend, Jeremy Michael Lewis, and Disney Heros & Villians featuring the men of the group, Somewhere where each one sings a solo, and finally their Great Movie Medley where they only sing one song in the lineup. They are a true treasure to discover, and you will find so much on their channel. Great reaction!
"If Someone Like You..." by Voctave makes me bawl. My fav virtual choir though is Peter Hollens with Home Free + Virtual choir of their Patreons filmed during quarentine. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."
I would far rather see someone cry for the over the beauty of music than have someone who is unmoved. Bravo! Have you reacted to Forestella yet? I would recommend their 'Scarborough Fair' to start with. Tears could happen.❤❤
Thank you SO much for discovering Voctave!! Can't wait to hear your reaction to many of their recordings! As a musician you can offer some great info regarding voice, arrangement, harmony, theory. This reaction made my day!!! Thanks!
Voctave are the most talented acapella singers I have ever heard and I have spent hundreds of hours listening to acapella music on the Internet. Please continue your reactions to their music. And I really appreciate your visceral reaction. Great music speaks not so much to our ears as to our soul.
This was recorded at the height of the pandemic with everyone shut down. Over 900 people from 55 different countries joined in. If you'd like to hear something unique, listen to The Great Movie Medley. It's an ode to the great John Williams. Except for one song, there are no lyrics. They ARE the orchestra!
I am a HUGE Voctave fan. Love listening to their music over and over. Hope to see them in person provided they return to Dayton, OH this year. Had tickets for '23 and got sick the day of their show. I was really sick then. Dont know if its worth the comment, but here goes. 2 other uber talents artists to take a listen to are David Phelps, "O Holy Night" and Lucy Thomas.
This was amazing! I've heard Voctave before but I haven't seen this one until now. My introduction to them was "Disney Love Medley feat Kirstin Maldonado and Jeremy Michael Lewis" and it absolutely blew my mind!
@@nickhiggsthesingerThe Prince of Egypt medley is perhaps their best work - currently audio only but trust us, you will be moved, perhaps even more because you will be more actively listening, if that’s possible.
I wanted to mention something cool. The tenor you commented on is EJ Cardona. His brother, Omar Cardona was a finalist on The Voice a couple of seasons ago and absolutely should have won! Omar has featured with VoicePlay multiple times and EJ has featured with them twice. The brothers are soooo talented. Geoff has said they need to be heard in person because the greatness can’t be recorded. ❤
I came here to say this too! EJ and Omar are fabulous and they sound awesome with Voiceplay! Voctave are also the most amazing group because each individual sounds fantastic by themselves but they can also blend so well together, it's crazy how good they are!
I knew what was coming, and when you held your hands up & said "YEAHHHH!!" and then got emotional, I totally broke down ugly crying. It's nice to see another human react to music the way I do! (This is my first video of yours, thank you for it!)
Excited to see you take a Voctave journey. While I think they are a great find for anyone, I feel that those who understand music theory and composition/arrangements will be in for a great ride. Additionally, these are truly cream of the crop world-class vocalists as well. Others have mentioned "Disney Princess Medley" which showcases the ladies and "Disney Heroes & Villains Medley" which showcases the men as well as "Prince of Egypt Medley" which showcases vocals and arrangement both, I would also recommend "Somewhere" (every member gets a solo line), "Someday" (suspensions & dissonance for days) and "Poor Unfortunate Souls/I Put A Spell On You" and "Great Movie Medley" for fun. And, of course, "Disney Love Medley" is their most popular and went viral back in the day (having PTX's Kirstin did not hurt). Enjoy the journey.
It was great to see a first-time listener to this extraordinary group react in real time to their artistry. Thank you! I contribute to a blog which focuses only on tunes with key changes (all genres/eras), Modulation of the Day. Our challenge with Voctave has been in limiting the number of their arrangements we feature! Their music is so sublime that getting into a binge is a real risk!
It is so awesome that you felt comfortable with sharing your emotional reaction….especially someone your age. Music, especially choral music creates these kind of emotions that nothing else can touch. Love your channel Nick!
YES another person who uses the term “eargasm”. I NEVER heard anyone else say that. I cracked my son up the first time I used it when he played an absolutely AWESOME Dubstep piece for me in the car. Riding in the car together is our Dubstep time together. And YES, this was an EARGASM!!! ❤❤❤
I'm a Boomer. "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof hits me this way, too. I was in HS choir, and sang in the ensemble for a community theatre production of the show as a youngster.
You remind me of something I saw on a t-shirt once: "If my mouth doesn't say it, my face will!" LOL! Your face expresses the surprise and pleasure of listening to the music you're reacting to.
Loved your reaction! #Voctave’s music moved many of us to tears. Their arrangements by Jamey Ray (the first soloist in this one) are simply the best. Their mastery of vocals, harmonies, layering and especially dynamics put them ahead of any other a cappella group IMHO (and I’m a huge fan of the others). Even more amazing when you realize they are only a PT ensemble - hence not as many videos as the others. Suggestions: Somewhere, from West Side Story, which features each of their 11 individual voices Disney Princess Medley - features the ladies Disney Heroes and Villains - features the men Anything Christmas. Can’t wait to see you react to more. Voctave never disappoints!!!
I'm crying too 😅😢😮. My heart reaches out in prayer to the Father, please Find the Lost ones, the stolen ones. Heal their broken hearts, pains and sufferings. . Like only YOU can. 😢🎉❤
It's an interesting first Voctave to hear someone who knows what they are talking about react to, because the nature of this particular performance means you didn't get fixated on individual singing talents, more on the overall sound and Jamey's arrangements. If you want to keep appreciating them as a collective, I would suggest the Prince of Egypt Medley next. The lack of video keeps you focussed on the overall sound. If you want to get to know them as individuals, you go to the Disney Princess Medley for the ladies, and Heroes & Villains Medley for the gents.
Just watched this reaction again - AND enjoyed it a lot - again. By the way, you want to get hit (hard) in the feels? Check out Voctave's Christmas repertoire. Their rendition of "Where Are You Christmas?" is amazing, as is "Mary, Did You Know?" featuring Mark Lowry (who wrote the lyrics to the song).
Thank you for your video! You changed my mind to appreciate this performance more. Cause when I listened to it the first times I didn't liked it because the harmony changes really confused me and I was really into the musical version of it. Great reaction, love it! Greetings from Austria
Amazing reaction! I cry everytime I heard this song too! You should react to 'million dreams" with vocal majority. Is this dynamic but all together in a theater ❤️
Dive deep, there is so much Voctave to be found, I don't know when this was recorded but going back to the pandemic years one of the two best things to come out of those years were the stay-at-home choirs. I go back to watch the videos.Together apart. Find Caledonia.
I watch a lot of reaction videos but subscribed to yours due to your obvious love and knowledge of music, not simply trying to show off what you know. Voctave does some really fun and amazing vocal pieces. Check out their Jingle Bells Xmas video. And Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.

You might really enjoy Voctave’s Disney Love Medley because it features Kirstin from PTX. They are a phenomenal group ❤
Hi, please do more Voctave, they are amazing and mesmerizing, they have a lot of songs and their arrangements are always incredible!!
What a WONDERFUL reaction! I cried right along with you even though I have watched the Voctave video like a hundred times... LOL
So glad we shared a moment!😢😂
Voctave is stunning every time. I'm crying, you're crying, everybody's crying! ❤
I loved your reaction! Avid Voctave fan saw them in concert recently and they sound JUST LIKE THIS in person. Hope you react to them some more
So much talent in this group! I would like to hear them doing a song where the lyrics aren’t so generic.
I studied with the director Jamey Ray, music technology at Rollins College!
Thanks!
Fantastic news, Michael, thank you !!! Please stay tuned for more (and click the little bell next to subscribe so you get notified when I post!!)
I've had the privilege of seeing them live and believe me, they're even better than their recordings!
I'm so excited for you to go down the Voctave rabbit hole!!! They heal my soul when I listen to them ❤
I’m so excited!!! Stay tuned for what’s next ☺️
They released this during COVID which is why everyone is virtual
Amazing
I am a HUGE Voctave fan. Love listening to their music over and over. Hope to see them in person provided they return to Dayton, OH this year. Had tickets for '23 and got sick the day of their show. I was really sick then. Dont know if its worth the comment, but here goes. 2 other uber talents artists to take a listen to are David Phelps, "O Holy Night" and Lucy Thomas.
"Disney princess medley" is super cool too! I love voctive. Love your react too, my friend!
Voctave is in a class all their own ... Welcome to the Voctave family
Voctave will always be one of my favorite groups. They always give me all the feels. Great reaction
This was amazing! I've heard Voctave before but I haven't seen this one until now. My introduction to them was "Disney Love Medley feat Kirstin Maldonado and Jeremy Michael Lewis" and it absolutely blew my mind!
I can't wait to see you experience more voctave ❤
They’re so good! Any video recommendations for me?
@@nickhiggsthesingerThe Prince of Egypt medley is perhaps their best work - currently audio only but trust us, you will be moved, perhaps even more because you will be more actively listening, if that’s possible.
the only time i don't feel guilty for listening to music with total concentration is when i'm a passenger with no duties (or when i'm in bed sick)
Wow!!! What a talented family 😁
I came here to say this too! EJ and Omar are fabulous and they sound awesome with Voiceplay! Voctave are also the most amazing group because each individual sounds fantastic by themselves but they can also blend so well together, it's crazy how good they are!
I’ve heard a few of their songs but this was excellent
They’re so good! Made me cry 😅
Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Looking forward to your future reactions.
2 of the “must hear” from Voctave are Prince of Egypt and Great Movie Medley.
Voctave Disney Princess medley.........go!
They are simply the best for their size ensemble. Pentatonix equally so for their smaller ensemble.
I walked down the aisle to voctave- Disney love medley on my wedding day 😍 I also recommend their Prince of Egypt medley 💜
Yeah man, please do Disney Princess Medley and Mary Did You Know. They will make you rethink life.
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Voctave!!!
I'm glad to see that someone else (and another voice teacher) is enthralled with Voctave.
PHENOMENAL!!!!❤
“You Will Be Found” is the “Seasons of Love” for the Millennials generation. I wonder what the equivalents for Boomers and Zoomers would be?
That’s a good question!! Something will come along, I’m sure 🙂
I'm a Boomer. "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof hits me this way, too. I was in HS choir, and sang in the ensemble for a community theatre production of the show as a youngster.
@@chrisabel1833 I would have guessed “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel. That’s probably more the Silent Generation.
You remind me of something I saw on a t-shirt once: "If my mouth doesn't say it, my face will!" LOL! Your face expresses the surprise and pleasure of listening to the music you're reacting to.
If you really want to cry, watch Voctave sing "Where Are You Christmas" - gets me every time.
Suggestions:
Somewhere, from West Side Story, which features each of their 11 individual voices
Disney Princess Medley - features the ladies
Disney Heroes and Villains - features the men
Anything Christmas. Can’t wait to see you react to more. Voctave never disappoints!!!
Thank you so so much !!! These are great recommendations
Yours is my favorite reaction to this song. I love that you understand the theory. Please do more Voctave reactions.
my favorite song and musical. Thank you for reacting.
You should react to voctive singing Mary did you know? Featuring Mark Lowry, the writer of the song. It’ll blow your mind
Oh to have had the chance to sing with a group like this! They are super!!
The couple is Nathan and Whitney Meyer. They both work for Disney. Most, if not all, of members of Voctave work for Disney. Please do more Voctave!
Because I share and confirm the feeling that music is a common language of humanity I am missing “Forestella” very much… 10:49
Just watched this reaction again - AND enjoyed it a lot - again.
They are a pretty amazing .. for an acca group. They're one of the best
I loved them when they were the Liberty Singers at Epcot
Let me take you to my arms.
🥰
I watch a lot of reaction videos but subscribed to yours due to your obvious love and knowledge of music, not simply trying to show off what you know. Voctave does some really fun and amazing vocal pieces. Check out their Jingle Bells Xmas video. And Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
Please do moreeee reacts to voctave's video!!! They're ao amazing!
You really need to hear voctave Disney love melody
Voctave is amazing. you should check out their new song they just released with Titus Burgess, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
Sounds like it must be silver lining time? Am speechless!
The lyrics omg 🙏
Voctave just released a new song with The Swingles called "I am What I am" that I highly suggest your react to.
Please please more voctave please
Please react to the Voces8 and Ringmasters collab “Shall We Gather at the River”. It’s INSANE
Ah! I’ll add it to the list - THANK YOU!
@@nickhiggsthesinger YES! Please react to this recording!!!
There's a lovely new one from Vocatave, featuring the incredible Tituss Burgess. Please react!
Most of these singers at one point worked professionally at Disney World.
