  • A short glimpse of filming of "Bewitched" season 7 episode 5 "Darrin on a Pedestal", in 1970. In the episode, Darrin (Dick Sargent) and Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) are planning to go sightseeing in Gloucester when Sam is called away for a special witches' meeting. Sam suggests that Serena accompany Darrin, where they ultimately come across the Fisherman's Memorial statue. To find out more about the statue, Serena brings him to life and in turn, replaces the statue with Darrin.
Filming took place from June 23rd to the 25th, and the episode ultimately aired on October 22, 1970. Filmed by Pierce Sears on 8mm. Digitized by Twin Lights Archive in 2022.

I live in Maine, and when I found out that Bewitched would be filming at Salem, Mass., I wrote a fan letter to Ms. Mongtomery and addressed it as "Elizabeth Montgomery, Salem, Mass." Imagine my shock when two weeks later, I received an autographed photo of Elizabeth, signed to me! I still have it!

This is absolutely fabulous!!! Imagine the awesome luck of the people just happening by such an iconic moment in television history, and having an 8mm on hand to film it!! And our good luck that Twin Lights Archive preserved and posted it!! Thanks so much!

We just went to Salem and stayed at the same hotel where the cast and crew stayed. 53 years ago.

This is amazing. There are almost no behind-the-scenes videos of Bewitched. I'm so glad that you shared this video. Thank you so much.

I was two years old myself when this was filmed! It's so good to actually witness how this all took place. I like how you can see the fisherman standing behind Darrin as Serena casts the spell to materialize him. Then, he moves into place between the two of them after the cut. That had to be so exciting to witness the live filming of that! Thank you so much for sharing! 0:29

I remember the ‘70 Pontiac Catalina convertible used in the episode. Either yellow or cream in colour.

I was a young boy when this was filmed but the home cameras had a lot to be desired. You hade to be very careful playing them because the bulbs got very hot and could destroy your film. What they have now is like a miracle. Nowadays you could record to your hearts content and not cost a dime in high definition on your phone.

Thats probably David White and the other episode cast members watching the acting scene with Ms Montgomery , Sargent and guest Robert Brown . The cast probably watched the other goings on during this series and then acted their part of being completly unknowning .

Robert Brown played the fisherman-statue-come-to-life in this episode. He also starred as Jason Bolt on the series "Here Come the Brides" as one of the Bolt brothers who owned a mountain in Seattle, Washington; they were loggers. Mark Lenard, famous as Sarek, Spock's father on "Star Trek," played Mr. Stemple, the owner of a sawmill (and was an adversary who wanted to own the mountain himself).

@@loydkline They did the same thing on Bewitched. Melody McCord was the double used for the back shots. In one episode (S5:E21, Marriage, Witch's Style), you can actually see Melody's face (in the epilog, I believe), but it was rare. In another Episode (S4:E22, Prince of a Guy), Melody plays Sleeping Beauty and you can get a full shot of her. I don't believe she ever had any dialog in any episode--only some visuals from time to time.

This is when TV was really an art! Nowadays it's just a high-tech joke. Bad writing, bad acting, bad scores and soundtracks, bad everything. The only thing that's good about modern TV are all the fancy CGI special effects and makeup effects. The rest is garbage.
