Was there last week 'enjoying' the change in temperature. Mornings were great, but not so in the afternoons. Nursing an 11 month old knee replacement. Fell on our last day on a steep green hump on or near to Jeux - no damage done, except pride! Played on the humps at Marcels Farm, great fun. We love Alpe d'Huez and come back year after year. This year a 4 yr old in our group had her first lessons. End of the week she was skiing Marcels quite confidently. We're all so proud of her. Me, I'm the 'adopted' granny at 73 years young!
Just come back from Dolomites. It hadn't snowed since 7th Jan, yet ALL slopes were still open and good. We had blue skies for 7 days. Absolutely amazing and on par with anywhere in the Alps ❤❤❤
Just arrived back from Morzine 3 days ago. As a snowboarder I didn't enjoy the icy mornings, however having stayed out, after noon or 1pm once the sun had made some slush it was much better.
Thx for this post which is heartening. We're coming out Saturday Feb 24th, so getting close! Hopefully it'll still be good. I totally messed up with trying to avoid the french half-term as I missed one of the zones. Buggar! Hope it's not going to be toooo mad there as I have to help my wife get more comfortable with being on skis on the nursery area. I'll look out for you on the slopes when I get the green light to head up though! Looking forward!
You make skiing look so easy! Having just come home from a week in Flaine as a very rusty novice, I can assure people of my ability, it's not quite so easy! Looking to visit here next season. Might be a very novice skier, but have the bug and want to improve.
It has been an amazing week or so in Alpe d'Huez as you say conditions are very variable and change by the hour in some places. Haven't seen you on the piste yet but you never know, Enjoy your videos.
Went Courchavel from Les Meniure going through Meribel. Everything you said in this video was spot on. I was griffting plenty and you can have so much fun. Interesting couple of weeks hopefully beast from east reaches French Alps. I'm seasoner chef. 6th season. Subscribed and liked. 🎿⛷️
Currently in 3V and if you know where to go and how to track the forecast and aspects there is some nice piste skiing to be found around. Park riding is actually excellent and has been for 2 weeks now, with another solid week of sunny weather with relatively cool temps preserving the snow quality on the more northerly aspect slopes of the main parks. Fun times 🙂And the week from 20th Jan was excellent, powder and park, best of all worlds. Also looks likely there will be some snow in the next 10 days, it has been hovering in the longer part of the 2 week forecast for a few days and is steadily getting closer, with anywhere between 20 and 70cm as things change about in the weather systems as we get closer.
Leaving Serre Chevalier tomorrow, Alpine skiing was icy in morning and slush in afternoon, most of the resort open. Came to do Nordic and nothing open south of Monitier...
Just got back from my trip to Alpe d'Huez. Was surprised how warm it was, got to ~10C one afternoon. Despite that there were some brilliant runs, snowboarded the Sarenne four times during the week and actually had my best run yesterday despite the strong winds. Some of the more exposed sections/ pistes were definitely icy or wind scraped but overall had some very enjoyable riding thorughout the resort.
Ski'd the 3 Valleys 2 days ago. Expected the warm temps and sun to soften the pistes. But no .. the air temp was cold enough that they stayed hard. And when I say hard , I mean like glass in places. I'm an ex instructor and guide. It was scary at times.
Thanks for the info on the camera. Will defo look into that. Do you ever ski any other resorts? Would be looking for off piste coaching. Jules & Karen We are skiing in Italy in March and swing by Alpe D on our way back if you are still there and there is some snow. April 9th ?
Alpe d’Huez is my home base really, but I’ve skied all over before stopping here. If you’re coming this way my contact details are in the description 👍
I love pow, as a surfer it’s what I live for in the winter. Was over in France 2 weeks ago and after a few small pow days it thawed and was like April snow, then it froze and was like an ice rink, no bueno in my 162 pow board 😂
This looks incredibly icy. I’m going to bring my family here in 26, but coming from deep powder in Montana to these runs is making me a little nervous not gona lie.
It’s really not that bad… with some simple sliding skills you’ll be fine. It’s always luck with conditions anyway… 10days ago I was skiing crazy deep-powder!
Hey there cookie, nice work with the camera I have one and didnt know about that pole mount which looks cool…I am currently around lautaret snowkiting and split boarding etc do you know any stores maybe in Briancon that would stock that pole mount??I am in my camper van so cant really get one posted!!cheers Andy
Hello i have some old smith otg goggles with a built-in small fan that keeps my glasses and goggles clear from steaming up but they are dropping to bits can you please recommend a modern alternative that works and keeps me safe on the slopes
Firstly, SunGod ❤ Best goggles I ever had by miles. Secondly, icy and horrible has been my experience of the French Alps every time bar one ten years ago. Legit saw a ESF guy almost stack it at the bottom of a lift exit because it was actual sheet ice which is saying something. Would I stop going? Hell no, it’s all about the views and the experience, plus nothing progresses you like varying conditions.
Handy to see what's going on there in AD, which there were more people in resorts doing this kind of thing. Thanks 😊. As you say, can't really ask "what's the snow like in the Alps" due to the multitude of microclimates. Aspect altitude and snowpack seem key. Heading out in a few weeks but might last-minute relocate based on conditoons. The insta360 cameras are game changing. I've got the One RS because, as a skydive coach, the others stick out representing more of a snag hazard at deployment time. Any recommendations on a speed riding school?
The Insta360 ski pole mount… it’s featured right at the start of the video before I set off, then mentioned and explained mid-way when I’m in the chair up. 👍👍

Great videos, love watching them and learning something along the way!

This was fabulous watching you! I almost felt I was there and great job videoing! 😊

Thanks - amazing footage, what a camera & invisible selfiestick ! Could have used that set-up when I lived in Villard Reculas. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! 🤩
My new favourite youtuber, very good content. Great showing of conditions. I want a 360 camera too! It looks awesome
Thanks!

This looks good to me from the East Coast of the USA. We just have 3 degree edges and crank those turns!

This is very nice and flat slope not like our slopes with all moguls in this warm winter season 😀

New subscriber here, love the video. How do you find those skis when you lay them over hard for a carve on piste?
They really bite in! Highly recommend as a single quiver all mountain ski 👍👍👍
Travelling out first thing in the morning and planning to pop in to ESF about a couple of days guiding in the next week.

Hey! Great video as always! While carving how much pressure su u put on inside ski?

I am in the Grand Massif and I can assure you, all pistes are icy and horrible.
Oh dear… maybe come here next time! 😜
So was Avoriaz in places but mainly slushy and mowgli. Best time was in the morning for about 2 hours then it was crap.
Where did you steal that esf. Jack!!! If the proff.see you skiing with that …..😅😅
I’ve worked for ESF for a while now got a few of my old ones from through the years… Wana buy one? 😜

There’s not a speed riding school here, but I learnt in Flaine and Tignes, but have nice schools, I’ve head Les arcs too. 👍

why are you only pole planting on the LHS ? ...is this a technical adjustment ?
Really? Did u even watch the video?
😜
The camera is in the hand that’s not moving- the pole mount. If I plant time pole the camera view goes wild!
They are called The Alps.
The village this is filmed in is called Alpe d’Huez! 😜
02:00 Is something wrong with your arm? You are only doing poleplant with 1 hand.... :O
Re-watch from the start and see if your question is answered! 😜
@@Cookiesports Yeah ok. Big drawback of the selfie-stick. - At least if you (as I do) want to use video to analyze your own skiing.
Hey Cookie! You keep spelling the Alps wrong! Lol
I know it's petty. Lol
Haha… it’s a but of a local joke… we’re in Alpe d’Huez… so “Alpes” means here, “Alps” would be all the Alpes! 😜
I thought so! Lol

But powder- but great spring style off-piste conditions.
