I honestly don’t know what to say about this film. I know I couldn’t put the words together to describe it to anybody after seeing it 😂😂😂😂 I’ll say this though, Jenna Ortega definitely cements her status as this generation’s Scream Queen in this film and Mia Goth’s performance was phenomenal!

There’s a lot that I loved about this movie, but interestingly enough one of the things that really resonated with me were two scenes with the 70s songs. I felt happiness and excitement when they played “In the Summertime.” I was bobbing my head in the chair. Then I felt this sadness and sympathy when the characters performed “Landslide.” You just felt the mental pain that some people go through when they begin to age. I felt that the the way the scenes paired with those songs was very, very effective.

I could tell Pearl was a make-up job but the fact she was Mia Goth in a dual role was a very pleasant surprise. Makes those caresses and bedroom scenes even more delicious. And that alligator death was glorious, especially after the tense build-up beforehand.
I'm happy I did not watch the trailer until after I saw the film, since it has a very 70s, "let's pretty much give the film away" vibe. Not as badly as others, I suppose.

The overhead shot of Maxine swimming for shore with the alligator slipping into the frame behind her was one of the most tense scenes ever, and Pearl's weird dance after killing the director was so David Lynch it could have came straight out of Twin Peaks. Got back from seeing X about an hour ago and I loved it! I think what sold me on it was the killers' motivation. People get old, and you're never gonna have the same youth and vigor you had in your 20s and 30s. They're evil, but also a bit sympathetic.

Went and checked this out last night, so had to save my review viewings until today. I walked out of the theater really enjoying it and the more I think about it, the more I find myself wanting to see it again. I think its going to age well and get better with each viewing. The inspirations are obvious and don't really need repeated here. One thing that I really loved was the score/soundtrack. The blending of horror scores with the erotic breathing and tones was pretty genius for a film like this one. It's also way more darkly humorous than I anticipated going in and the jokes are hitting me more as I think of them and let it settle. Granted, I couldn't anticipate much since I walked into this thing almost completely blind. No trailers, no knowledge of the full cast, didn't even read a synopsis. All I knew was that word of mouth was strong and it was by the guy who did House of the Devil. Such a nice experience getting to check in with a new film so fresh. Hoping it gets a quick streaming date so I can re-watch ... and bring on Pearl!

I checked this one out last night. I had a blast! The old feel slasher. Boogie Nights meets Chainsaw Massacre meets Friday the 13th,meets Idk WTF!? But it was great! That first kill was pretty nasty, she kept stabbing that guy in the face. This movie went very far. I found myself laughing quite a few times. The survivor saying they gotta stick together, the other girl is upset, I knew right when she went out the door, BOOM! Then the old guy has a heart attack. Then the final girl sniffs a bump after running over the old lady's head, and it was nasty, and says "It will be our little secret". I mean I went into the movie not really knowing wtf is going on. And I was blown away! Btw did you catch the TV set, Maxine left that preacher on the TVs congregation, he showed her picture. And when Kid Cudies character was helping the old man find his wife, and he finds another vehicle. I wonder how many vehicles they got out there? Yes this is a hell of a movie to bring back my favorite type of horror genre, the slasher! I know Halloween Kills just came out a few months back, but this was something very completely different. Lol! And this movie was very original, and it was just fucking great! Highly recommended!

Okay, my man! Now that I've seen the movie, I was ready to see your spoiler review (albeit 2 years later). This film was AMAZING, and such an homage to Tobe Hooper! From exact scenes from THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (the van and house), to his using the gator, like in EATEN ALIVE. Wow! The Foreshadowing was great for each kill, like the Matthew McConaughey lookalike Wayne saying, "People's eyes are gonna pop out of their damn skulls..." to Brittany Snow's character walking out of a door with an alligator chewing on her bikini bottom. And the guy in the basement being seen on a milk carton that Jackson drinks out of. Brilliant! My most favorite scene is the opening, with the 4:3 fakeout, to go to widescreen through barn doors. My favorite kill was the first, with that stabbing/beheading of the Ti West-lookalike.

Just finished watching this recently after having it recommended, and personally I feel it's the best Horror movie of 2022 so far, maybe even the decade. It's no secret that I'm a huge fanboy of '70s grindhouse type of films, and X nailed the aesthetic perfectly. If a film is set in the 1970s then it's only fitting for it to be filmed like it's the 1970s. One of the key elements of this film that really makes it scary is the Horror of aging and losing youth, which is something many of us in life aren't ready to accept or face. The sex scene between Pearl and Howard was one of the most disgusting scenes I've seen in a Horror movie in a while. It's like shades of the old woman from the Shining, except worse. Definitely will be interesting to see what they do in the prequel that lead to these events.

‘X’ is an interesting slasher movie in 2022.
Ti West did a great work indeed.
There’s gonna be a prequel in the possible future.

I could tell she played Pearl also (I guess she saw Tilda do it in Suspiria and wanted to try it lol) and I figured it would play into the story because the husband noticed the resemblance but it didn’t.

X is this best horror movie in 2022 so far, what Ti did with the characters is what I've been saying for a long time, you don't need a backstory if you can make the audience like the characters with all their flaws, I call it on the spot character building. This is were you learn who they are by their interactions, what they do, what they like and what they don't like, views of the world in their own world. This is how the audience will attach themselves to the characters, you care about them and what happens to them. I don't agree this is just a straight up slasher, I think Ti blended it with an elevated style in my opinion, the old woman's' loneliness was use in a elevated way, I've come across people who are so lonely they feel their going crazy, Ti uses horror to express that.

Finally managed to see this movie! Unfortunately it wasn't released in theaters over here. And am i the only one who doesn't see this as a slasher throw back? It reminds me more of the texas chainsaw massacre and similar movies. 70's grit is what it reminds me off. It doesn't have the slasher camp feeling. Either way, i loved it!!

Ti West's VHS and ABCs of Death segments are very decent also. The man knows how to do horror and I think this movie is going to take himplaces with in the horror community.
He did a film called The Sacrament which is about a cult, a must watch.
