Personally, I think the family aspect made the movie into the most heartbreaking entry yet. You've got a character who loves her children a lot, who gradually transforms herself and her kids into a complete perversion of a family unit and forces her sister to take them down in the most horrid fashion imaginable.

I wish the final girl had more rage in her! The 2013 version was way more brutal (extended cut), so I hope they release a uncut version for this. Solid movie though w/ the best title reveal in the franchise. 🔥

I think the pregnancy angle does a lot more than just up the ante with the tension with her death or lack thereof because after her sister dies she's in charge of taking care of these kids and it's like an over-exaggerated/extreme preparation for taking care of kids. I think the implication would be that she's going to adopt her niece after all this is said and done. Even though realistically she's probably going to get locked up for all these dead people and the niece is probably going to have to go into foster care and have a lot of therapy.

So I think she was coming to her sister to talk about the pregnancy and was torn if she was going to keep the baby or not. Through all she went through protecting the kids (or mainly kid) it helped her decide to keep the baby. IMO that is why the pregnancy makes sense for part of the story. Could be wrong but that is how I read it.

"The Abomination" when all of the Deadites were comjoined together at the end was so badass, and that is what they wanted to do in 2013, but did not have the budget for. You see a drawing of it in The Book of The Dead in 2013, but ultimately it was just an evil version of the main character. This movie took it further, and I love how they kept most of it in shadow, not revealing too much.

I think compared to the 2013 movie, it can see the critique of it being “watered down”.
The 2013 movie went HARD, lots of close ups of the torture and amazing effects that they show in detail.
A good example of this one being “watered down” if you will, was the cheese grater. When I saw that in the trailer, I thought we would see a close up of the skin peeling and going through the grater but instead it was just a quick scrape and they show Beth’s leg and it just didn’t look as brutal as I thought it would be 🤷‍♂️.
Still a great movie and did some things new but I felt like it retreaded a lot of the same tropes and characters elements. Here’s hoping they make a direct sequel and not another reboot/remake and they really do some new stuff that makes it less predictable!

    • @abrimfulofasha

And how Ellie's deadite head had to speed up her insulting bullshit before she got kicked. These little jokes after the momentum goes over the top for so long. I thought the Beth pregnancy sub-plot was cool because in the beginning she's scared and seems like she isn't sure what she'll do about it. 🤘🏼👊🏼Loved every minute of EDR!!! Aesthetic, practicals, sound, performances! Put this at #2 right behind Evil Dead II. Speaking of franchises, we need a trip down to Elm St again (crossing fingers)!

I shot a short reaction for this movie last night. Lots of positives, but it's probably my least favorite of the five we've had thus far. In all honesty, it's okay for people to have different opinions about this film. Let's all come together, unite, and celebrate horror. This is a beloved franchise, so fans are going to have strong reactions from different perspectives. For instance, when you said you thought Evil Dead Rise felt more like an Evil Dead film than the 2013 remake, I nearly spit out my drink lol. I couldn't disagree more. But you know what? That's okay. If everyone felt the same way about every new movie that came out, reviews would be boring and pointless. Also, please don't let one rando on the internet who said the movie was "watered down and woke" ruin your day. Love you, Lee. Keep doing what you do and stay positive! : ]

I think they call it woke because there are some lines in the movie that go against white men, and feminsim is visually polluted throughout the movie, rather than have good writing to let you know, the female leads are powerhouses. But for me, you can brush those little things aside, as snarky comments towards one's race or sex have been happening for years in the movie bizz. The visual messaging is a bit bothersome, though. Instead, you could have had good writing to do that and not let the visuals take you out of the movie.
The movie was a welcomed edition to the franchise. It had both coats of paint from the original and remake, which has a very nice medium when it comes to an Evil Dead movie.
The TV series will always and continues to be my favourite.

Saw is getting part 10 this year. You know I love the franchise, and we get insidious 5 this year and I love those, and we get Maxxxine this year. So we got a lot of awesome franchise entries this year.

I will tell you why this movie is good. The more you watch it, the better it gets and makes you hungry for another one
I've seen it 3 times already and it keeps getting better and better.
Brilliant casting. All the characters hit it. So much death and you can't tell who will survive. This movie ain't woke at all. Ellie is amazing. Her face is so suited to horror. Need more. 😊

HIGH-RISE HORROR: quarantine, Rec 1 and Rec 2, delicatessen (directed by the Alien 4 guy), and I know there was like a Korean or Japanese movie where there's a guy stuck in a high-rise not really a horror movie but it's scary.
And then there's another one with like rage-filled zombies and there's a guy and a girl from two different condos I know there is like a foreign version and then there's a Korean remake

I can’t believe how much I loved this film either, I was looking forward to it and knew I would enjoy it. But didn’t expect it to be on the same level as the 2013 film. Which it was. I can’t choose with I prefer. The sound design and cinematography were stunning, I actually liked the characters. Good performances from everyone! The family dynamic definitely added an emotional edge. As a mother now, films involving motherhood do hit differently. There is no limits to how far I’d go to protect my child.
Can’t believe someone said this film is watered down ?? 🤣 so much blood!! It was great !! Also awesome to see something so graphic on the big screen!
And a answer to your first question about the next big franchise to have a new movie! Ive got one! SAW!!! Woooooooo. But I know your into that franchise much, but your right about no old new upcoming films from the old classic franchises. Unfortunately 😭 I’m sure we won’t have to wait for long till something is announced with how well all these films are doing. Saw is more of a “modern” big franchise as its post 2000. But I’m counting down the months haha. Next big film for me this year.

Any one else notice that on the record it states that they found one of the volumes of the book of the dead? I thought that was cool becuas it separates past movies from it without taking them out of existence. This book had a specific set up and showed what was going to haopen in stages, i guess kinda like the 2013 movie a little bit.
