Note to all who are posting on this thread: I am surprised that people think this is so easy. Even though he is playing instruments in the same family (flutes, double reeds, clarinets, saxes, recorders, etc.) Daron's ability to quickly grab them w/o warming up and remember the subtle fingering differences, the different keys, etc. is what impresses me. But - to all those who would like to try the piece, I can send you a PDF and you can video yourself playing along. (The gauntlet is thrown!)
James Casto What I meant is that I play bassoon, contrabassoon and tenoroon. All of them belong to the bassoon family, so this can be simplified as "I play bassoons". This type of formulation ils far more common with clarinets because the family is wider and less insanely rare than a fucking tenoroon. Now if you don't believe me, go see my videos ; I don't think there is any tenoroon because I only play it at the bassoon ensemble and it does not belong to me, but you'll see a lot of instruments and you'll see I'm not lying. If you read all of this, congratulations ! It must be hard for someone who directly throw random sexual bullshit when he thinks he unraveled a lie with its awesome Sherlock skills, although he actually missed the whole point because he's just a misinformed moron.
Amani Graham Ya you’re right. I’m just saying a lot of the times it gets buried like it did in the video, and that’s not a flute exclusive problem either.
The mic should have been at the finger holes and not the mouthpiece. Oh well. Yeah, mix sucked big time. It was probably a FOH (PA) mix and not a real media mix. Too bad, though.
Ha - well, while Daron DOES play some bassoon, there wasn't enough space in the song for him to add that WONDERFUL instrument! Perhaps next time we perform it, he'll play it.
The conch is not necessarily a wood wind instrument. If anything, its more of a brass instrument than a wood wind because you buzz into a conch just like you would on any brass instrument.
This is insane. When I switch from practicing on my alto to my tenor there's a moment of adjustment and then I don't feel truly settled until a minute or two into whatever I'm playing. To do this over so many different instruments that are very technically and mechanically distinct with such enviable tone is AMAZING. That's an OG right there.
I agree the sound is caused by the vibration of the lips, like a brass instrument, where in a woodwind the noise is cause by air making contact with a reed or opening
3:22 I laughed in my head because i'm playing Away in a Manger (aka the song that starts here) as a mini violin duet with one of my friends at church on sunday :) Well then, that just cracked me up a bit.
For those of you who only play concert instruments, it actually is very impressive he was able to play the Penny Whistle in E and then the Penny Whistle in D because that skrews with your mind so much like you have no idea. Or you do :)
I played the B Flat Clarinet since 6th-12th grades and I’m still trying to learn the Flute! I also want to try to learn the Oboe,Alto Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone ,Bass Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone and the Piccolo.. practice practice practice! Practice makes perfect.
I'm surprised he played the conch but not the ocarina. Interesting variety, at the same time wishing there was more variety. An impressive feat. I'm simply watching to get a taste of how different instruments sound, to figure out what I might enjoy after learning the ocarina. What I've learned is that every instrument has its appeal, and that there's always other tones available, and the musician can make anything sound good if they're good. The sax is more appealing to me, now, than before this video. I saw someone play an aerophone and it turned me off from sax.

Bassoon has fingerings so different from other woodwinds that make it, in many cases, the one woodwind that woodwind players choose not to learn, or leave until last.
