- Before this kit I had never heard of Tommy Ivo.
Surprisingly he played a big roll in Showmanship Drag Racing
while also helping Dragsters care not just about performance. But the quality and look of the dragster. Tommy Ivo was a child actor turned drag racer as he got older.
Among others, he starred in the hit movie from 1964 "Bikini Beach" which also starred his dragster the "Showboat". The "Showboat was a 4 motor buick
nailhead, dual axle rubber burning monster. With 2 forward facing motors and 2 rear facing motors the dragster was a true work of art and performance!

Best Video yet! Keep em coming.
I'm glad you liked it!
I love that kit, nice unboxing!
Thanks man!
Cool model.
Thanks man!
I didn't have this kit but I had lots of Revell ,AMT,and MPC kits and still building to this day. Everybody remembers TV Tommy Ivo.
I have to be honest. I had no clue who he was until now.....
Very cool kit and car history. Have building all those motors.
Yea its allot! I normally run plug wires but not sure I will for this one if I build it as is. I'm not sure I have the patience for 4.
Yeah!!! Cool video!😁👌no speed limits my friend 🏁🏁☠️
Thanks Carlos!
As a young modeller, purchasing/building this much-loved rig was a necessity when it was on the shelf at D&H, the local model shop. As a drag racer later, I would always try to talk to TV Tommy Ivo in the pits for hours on end if time and circumstances allowed. He was the most easygoing and kind drag racer I'd ever met. If you ever wanted to irritate him slightly, intentionally or not, all you had to do was bring up the topic of this "SHOWBOAT" which he was so proud of, and his normally joyful demeanor would turn to disappointment... But he would still tell you everything about it, including how he created the "SHOWBOAT" and who mistreated him, his car, and race fans. I hope he lives to be over a hundred years old, and if you met him, you'd probably realize why people love the guy, or at least wouldn't ever forget him!
Thank you so much Orn, For taking the time to share your story. Thats wild that you actually knew him. Did you ever get to see the ShowBoat run down the track?
@@modelrestorations I never saw it run the 1/4 mile, move or hear the engines rev, but I did see it resting at a large indoor auto show, which was better than nothing! Old Tommy is still alive, and I'd love to see him again! Old racers like Tommy fell in love with the cars, industry, workers, and spectators. Making money was not in their nitro-loving thoughts; they had enormous loving hearts and tough bodies like titanium. These were the true racers; you and I could shake their hands and walk away better for it!
Thats really cool Orn. Thanks again for sharing!
That's a very cool kit ❤😊
I agree!
What a cool drag car and kit!
Thank you for watching! I learned allot creating the video.
Very cool. That was an amazing Buick 454 dragster. Another cool 4 engine car is Mickey Thompson's Challenger I. That ran on the Salt Flats for a speed record. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Vince! Revell made a combo kit under the HOT ROD model series called "Monster Machines" that included the Showboat and the Challenger I. They were 2 complete kits in one. Really cool kit.
@@modelrestorations It was just amazing to see a frame hanging on to 4 engines. I have that HOT ROD combo kit in my stash. 😁
@@VinceWeston Oh nice man! Thats a somewhat rare kit.
This is cool kit. I bought a second for the engines to go in other builds. Super neat stuff.
Great idea. I might so the same since its missing the front axle. Or I thought about making it a dual engine with a more normal straight axle dragster front. He did campaign one that broke the 9 second mark for the 1st time. I was surprised how much Ivo made an impact on drag racing. Before this kit, I had no idea who he was.
I always thought of building that dragster that broke the 9 sec. also those nail heads look killer in a T-bucket.
Right on, good to know. I just picked up a couple 32 ford's that they may go in. Sacralidge!!😮😅
Interesting Dragster kit. Something which will become a great model under your hands on the workbench.
Wish you much fun with it, Jerry. Greetings, Joachim
Thank you so much for watching and commenting Joachim. Much appreciated my friend!
Very cool...
Wow..that's a whole lot of chrome!!
Isn't it😮
That is an awesome kit, Hope you have everything in there. Ron
Thanks Ron! I think I'm just missing 3 wheels and a front axel.
Very cool kit need to start getting a few of these to mod out.
Definitely would be a cool one to Mod.
Thanks for sharing! This reminded me of a 2 in 1 dragster kit I had as a boy. Now I’m heading over to Scalemates to figure out exactly what it was. Hmmmm. 👍👍
Very cool! Thanks for watching Mark.
Very cool review, just came across a few of these the other day we had put away some time back, love the history added, great video!~
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This was the first model I ever built!
I was in 2nd, maybe 3rd grade at the time.
I used a WHOLE tube of glue on it! 😂
Dang! That's a hard kit for your 1st model. Do you still have it?
I had the 63 Showboat model in 63. It took me a couple hours to put it together.
Right on man. Good to know!
@@modelrestorations I am pretty sure it was the Christmas of 63 when I get the kit. I was 10 yr. old then.. I just read up on the Showboat and found out that the front axle you are missing, was from 1 ton 4-wheel drive truck. If you are looking for a replace part for your kit.
@@JohnSturrock Thanks so much! I'm pretty sure I have that axle since im converting a chevy 4x4 to 2 wheel drive hotrod.
@@modelrestorations great looking forwards to see it when done. I thought that it was a cool dragster with 4 engines.
Nice! Picked up the 2015 boxing a few weeks ago and hope to build it this year. Liked and subbed.
Thanks, Tim, and welcome! Is the 2015 kit a side opening box? Scalemates says it is, but I have been unable to verify for sure.
@@modelrestorations Mine is not a side opener. Just a regular old box top. :)
@@timcarson8146 Interesting. Does it happen to say 2015 anywhere on the box or instructions? I'm wondering how you can tell a 63 release to a 2015 release?
@@modelrestorations I think my reply got whacked. It says 2015 on the box, and the 2015 release has Tommy Ivo standing next to the car.
@@timcarson8146 Nuts, I misspoke. The 1995 version had a side open box.
When it shows it going down the track for the first time I want to see what the car looks like the cameraman is in. 😊
I kept wondering the same thing. I imagine it wasn't at full speed. it did 8.2 in the 1/4 lol.
