    You know when I first saw this technique being used, which I think was from you 18 years ago when I worked with your brother on that video project in college (apologies for reminding people of the passage of time) it's struck me that this kind of style where you have a midtone background and then a darker and a lighter medium applied on top of it would work in a lot of places. You could do white and black paint on top of a piece of wood, white and black ink on a gray t-shirt, chalk and charcoal on a piece of stone, or even just make some custom midtone paper by doing a watercolor wash over a piece of white paper and letting it dry.
