Love this, Jules, so many books I own in this video! I'm sure you know this, Jules, but for the benefit of your viewers' knowledge: Triad was an indicator that Panther had licensed some titles from Jonathan Cape, Chatto & Windus and Bodley Head hardcovers for their imprint. Cape of course published many, many of the New Wave school of British SF -I'm a bit of a Cape obsessive myself- and their books have, in my opinion, the most beautiful cover designs and liveries of any British hardcovers of the time. Granada was of course the company that included the TV production company who did a lot of work for independent shows in the UK, then when Collins bought Granada around 83, they started converting Garanda titles into Grafton around 85 (some sources say earlier, but they are basically wrong, as I entered bookselling in October 1984 and ran SF sections from day one (plus I was obsessed with Panther/Granada). Grafton was named after Grafton Street, London, where Collins had offices and I remember discussing the transition of imprint nomenclature with one of the sales reps in 1985. By the 1990s, Voyager became the SF imprint -under the aegis of my friend Jane Johnson (formerly she ran the Tolkien list and Unicorn Fantasy at Unwin before Collins bought them up) and as much as I like Jane (she is a fine historical and fantasy novelist) the imprint has never been the same since as Gollancz began reclaim rights and licensing many classic SF titles for Masterworks. Also, the increasing drift towwards here today gone tomorrow Fantasy sagas eroded the backlist of authors like Bradbury and Farmer until they went out of print. Bit of history!

Lovely, Jules - I'd say 'The Revenge of Frankenstein' is SF. It has a special meaning to me as I bought an 8mm version as a kid for my projector, still have it! I must show it on my channel sometime, would love a copy of that tie-in. Uncommon edition of 'The Crystal World', that! ......D.F Jones' book was filmed in 1970 as 'Colossus: The Forbin Project'. Not a front rank, author, but worth a look!

Old school science fiction is a class all by its' own.
Watching your videos on vintage collecting made me head out to the local used book store to buy a box full of vintage science fiction, fantasy, and adventure novels.

@@JulesBurt also IMO Panther published some of the most beautiful and creative horror pb covers ever in the 70's - I used to call vintage paperbacks "the poor man's art collection" except they're getting more expensive and difficult to find every day - very difficult to find UK paperbacks (esp. Sf and horror,) in the US. Except I did recently find a boxful of Philip Dick Arrows, Methuens and Pans (and several Pan Book of Horrors) at a library sale. Panthers remain elusive. If you start looking at all the iterations just of Lovecraft covers in Panther it makes your head swim. It would be a very expensive hobby to collect them in this country.

I recently recorded the "page 112 tag" and I used it as an excuse to put up a bunch of vintage science fiction paperbacks - and some of those are books you might like seeing...it's scheduled for April Fools Day (because it's a ridiculous tag! haha) - thanks for your awesome videos Jules.
