If college age cosplayers can do better than that dress then Disney should be able to as well.
The things they do for cartoonish looks... It's really not that hard to make a proper fitting corset, especially with their budgets. I've made tight fitting things for myself and yes it usually takes a few tries and lots of tweaking, but you can still get the shape and support without pain.
yeah, ok. The bodice of Jasmine in the rose dress was tight.... But, why? They're arabians. They didin't even use the corset or thight bodice! there was no need xD
@Meow Meowy yes indeed! I also found those clothes much more Indian than Arab. Only the Bindi was missing and they would have been 100% Indian xD Then the post credit scene was clearly Bollywood! I believe that the only people who really dressed as Arabs were the villagers. I don't want to be wrong. But from what I have read and seen they seemed much more Arab than the protagonists. It is interesting that you are Arab! I've always wondered how and if an Arab felt represented in Aladdin's live action (or even just in the cartoon) :D
@Meow Meowy Actually neither. I have found out about it not long ago, and Aladdin is actually set in China and he himself is Chinese. Disney just butchered the whole thing. Other nooks of youtube inform me that corsetry needn't be uncomfortable, so there's no excuse for it in highly physical scenes. I would kind of expect that acrobats wearing corsets might actually benefit from the right one to balance body weight and keep their spine and body aligned--might that be the reason for the historical accuracy of corsets in Dumbo?
They probably laced them too tight. I can definitely see that being the case in Cinderella. If it's made to fit the person's body, and laced to the point where breathing isn't inhibited, there shouldn't be a problem. I've made dresses that lace up the back quite tight, but it's never more than 3" waist reduction. Any more than that, especially if not used to it, and it would certainly be difficult to wear. I can see the point with acrobats, but from what I've seen talking to gymnasts, having your back being flexible is one of the most important things. Someone I know had a curved spine, having to get a rod in her back and after that she couldn't do any gymnastics. I guess it's what you get used to, because it's certainly possible with practice.
Both Emma’s outfits were spectacular in Cruella!! Emma and Emma nailed the roles perfectly!! Honorary mention- Kate Blanchetts outfits in Cinderella were also incredible!!!
Unsure if some of these things were painful, like the fact that it was a big effort to make Belle's dress and it had many layers does not mean it was painful to wear. None of these looks are inherently uncomfortable. Not even corsets if they are fit correctly (I have one and its very comfy). I do think the motion capture suits can be hard to wear it's amazing that they can work in those for so long! The only costume pain I really believe is Lily James about the tight corset because she actually said it was tight and it looked very restrictive on screen. Still interesting to see what went into these looks!
@@amberriddle227 yeah. For a whole ass 16 hours for sure. My legs fkn hurt and need to breathe when I wear jeans for 7 hours (not neccessarily tight but it's tighter than most pants). Now imagine that with acting, And DOUBLE the hours. On top of that significantly tighter
Honestly if it was historically accurate, the corset wouldn’t have been restrictive. The corset was used like a bra, and you wouldn’t have it THAT tight unless your upper-class and could afford to restrict yourself from some small amount of movement since upper class women tended to have less work to do.
The corset is coming for you though every human being is different and you people need to remember that everybody’s different everybody is different and that doesn’t mean they didn’t put the corset on right or anything like that doesn’t mean that sometimes things are uncomfortable with some people because some people don’t like it or whatever I I don’t like horses they’re uncomfortable to me and I know a few other people there I can’t before so you can’t speak for everybody on that it was uncomfortable for them every person is different
@@SailorVenus-iz6zp agreed. A decently well cut corset feels way more comfortable than most underwire bras. The only bras I have that aren't uncomfortable are from 1960s designs and have extra hooks, wide bands and support. My corsets are fine, no worse than a high-impact spandex sports bra. Nothing digging in unless it's overtightened. Most people who think otherwise have never tried a classically cut corset.
what im hearing: Actors and actresses know it's a lot to do this and literally sign up for it because this is their job, a lot of them INSISTED on the harder to wear stuff, they're apparently being tortured. Makeup and prosthetics application/removal should never hurt unless your makeup artist is doing it wrong. Corsets can be a bit restricting and take a while to get used to, but they should not be tight enough to cause pain or stop you from doing daily activities.
yes, and corsets are supposed to be comfortable since they are actually made as breast supporters but the ones that are used in movies focuses more on the style
Not all of them INSISTED on that hell. So.. hush. :) And well. They don't let the actors wear corsets the right way. They don't let them get used to it in any form, make the corsets way too tight etc. And just because they are actors and knew it was gonna be a lot doesn't mean we should just be like "Bitch. I don't give a fuck. It's your job. Stop whining.". Because ALL OF THIS wouldn't happen if Disney would invest their money more wisely. But noo. Instead of making sure the actors don't go through hell and die on set they throw around money to get crystals and shit THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN SEE LATER. Tf are they doing?!🤦🏻♀️
My only complaint about this comment that hasn't been mentioned is that makeup and specifically prosthetics removal isn't a fast process at all. Most likely the prosthetics had either moved during the wear and tear of shooting or the actor was in a rush to have it removed. That is probably why their removal was called painful. Also contacts. The membranes of the eyes are incredibly delicate and become irritated quicky. Like if my regular day to day contacts are worn too long they hurt like hell. 16 hours with contacts in is super unpleasant let alone sclera contacta like Jim Carrey wore in the live action Grinch movie.
@@kriu5018 Yeah, that’s why they save money by using Swarovski crystals. An actual tight budget incentivizes creativity. Personally, I do not think their budget is being used wisely precisely because it is not as limiting a factor for the biggest name in entertainment. Time constraints? MAYBE. Lots of balls in the air but budget on a Disney movie? I don’t buy it.
@@NotARealHomestead yeah, the Cinderella corset thing is weird because it was totally unnecessary as the skirt already gave the illusion of a small waist and yet the actress and crew consented. I am not normally one to complain about ‘unrealistic expectations for women’ but this seemed like an ill thought out decision to say the least.
This makes me really happy there’s strikes and everything right now. Like imagine having to work 16 hours a day. I can deal with waiting a few extra months if it means people aren’t working in these conditions.
People are talking about well they make all that money so they can’t complain and just. No. I don’t care how much money you make you deserve basic safety standards in your workplace. Like corsets like Cinderella‘s that aren’t properly fitted can give you permanent damage on your bones. I should probably know more about the female actors since they’re expected to look so ridiculously skinny but I mainly know a lot about the male actors who had to look unrealistically buff. They said you’re supposed to have 3 to 4% body fat went on screen that they get heads up on shirtless scene so they can dehydrate themselves for 34 hours to make sure they get that veiny look, that they primarily eat these weird gelatinous cube‘s that are supposed to help them lose weight and sometimes little else, and the same goes for musicians. Like I don’t know why you could possibly think that a 16 hour workday is normal but it is when you’re a preformer there are hundreds of videos out there of performers collapsing on stage from how hard they’ve been worked. Like it’s one thing if you sign up for a job as a stuntman or a football player or something that’s actually supposed to be physical and something accidentally happens, it’s another altogether for it to be planned that your bodies going to get hurt in a job that I absolutely does not require it. And they don’t get told about most this stuff before hand either, it gets sprung on them AFTER they’ve signed contracts.
Some actors are unhappy with how their films turn out. Remember they film a lot of scenes but much is cut out. What gets cut out is decided by the director. So if you want to point a finger at someone, point it to the director, not the actors.
Bravo to the actors and actresses, but a bigger bravo to the makers of the film and those behind them. These costumes are amazing and the work that it is put into it..
Right? Like all the effort put into that dress was wasted, you couldn't even see the crystals! And while it's not an ugly dress, it simply looks like a prom dress, and that's not true to how the dress should've been. I didn't want to watch Emma in a dress, I wanted to watch Belle in a dress. That's the whole point of the movie, specially since it's in a historical setting. If it were a film with a modern setting I might have been okay with it, but it's not.
As someone who makes costumes and wears them for fun, I can relate to some of the pain. But I know the limits of my body, and tightlacing is very much out of the picture. Corset dresses can be fun, but realistically, you can't do much more than 2"-4" reduction without a lot of time breaking it in and working up to it. And weight limits are definitely important. I saw a video about a vintage chair thing that could be worn under a dress as a bustle, and oh that would make things so much easier. But full honesty, I've never made a dress that big before.
Yeah! It issssss Michelle Pfeiffer! I don't know hooooow on Earth they got that wrong when you can Google Valli O'Reilly and they look nothing alike 🤣🤣
@@avangel13 I can make an educated guess as to how they got that wrong because it’s a pet peeve of mine. @@enakshiparua836 I didn’t say a feminist couldn’t design a perfect dress, the emphasis was on the fact that her modern views took over from the fact that this is supposed to still be based in history… a lot of people care about accuracy, because what’s the point of playing a role if you’re just going to change everything to fit your views? If she didn’t want to play the part as a figure based in a historic time, then she shouldn’t have taken the responsibility of the role. I have nothing against feminism, I myself I’m somewhat a feminist in some aspects, but you cannot take over the past and historic fact with modern ideals, it’s inaccurate and starts changing history. It might be just a fairytale, but it’s not right to start messing up what would’ve been accurate back then. If it was a modern retelling, then she could’ve done what she wanted. But quite frankly, she ruined the dress just because she wanted to make an out of place statement. I don’t believe it was her choice, she was playing belle, so she should actually play belle, not herself.
Corsets are some of the most comfortable things to wear. I do absolutely believe the actresses when they say they were painful though because I doubt the corsets were fitted properly and the actresses had time to break them in. It's a shame corsets continue to get a bad rep because large film studios just don't care about undergarments fitting well or their actors being comfortable
The fact that they tried to make the circus outfits acurrate with corsets proves that when real women were wearing corsets when they did gymnastics. Corsets if made to fit properly, are comfortable and more flexible than you'd expect.
Yeah. It actually makes me angry that such a huge company with so much money can't make proper corsets that fit the actors. Like what's the purpose? To fuel the "fact" that corsets are evil torture devices? It makes no sense. It can't be that much more expensive to make them accurately....
Poor Cinderella 😭😭 I can imagine how bad that would hurt on her stomach, and it would be very hard to breath in. They should’ve edited her waist to look smaller instead of doing it irl 😭😭

How would any of us know
@@enakshiparua836 Yes but they downplayed her most iconic outfit to the bare basics, it’s really sad. Not to mention it doesn’t mesh well with ANY of the other costumes from the movie. It went from late 1700’s France to 2013 prom with her dress alone. Very disappointing. They could’ve done SO MUCH better while still taking comfort into account is what I’m saying. If college age cosplayers can do better than that dress then Disney should be able to as well.
If the costume designers had gotten Cinderella's actor a proper corset that was tightened gradually, then it wouldn't have hurt.
Only the Bindi was missing and they would have been 100% Indian xD
Then the post credit scene was clearly Bollywood!
Probably because it was the desert, they thought that immediately means Arabic or Indian. Even though there is a big ass desert in China.

The outfits Emma wore in cruella are iconic and that movie was iconic!
Totally agree!! I find both Emma’s outfits killed in every single scene!!!
Actually the more layers the heavier it gets. So it could be painful wearing something heavy all day
@@amberriddle227 yeah.

The outfits she wore were ICONIC
Hats of to these actors and actresses for the amount of pain tolerance, hard work and effort they put for the movies.
what im hearing: Actors and actresses know it's a lot to do this and literally sign up for it because this is their job, a lot of them INSISTED on the harder to wear stuff, they're apparently being tortured.
So.. hush. :)
And well.
The fact that they get six or seven figures from one movie then I would still go for it 😂😂😂

Oh my rly? I knew that when I w like 6 xoxo
It's a crystal but semi precious bcoz it's not as rare as diamonds, ruby, emerald, etc.
Remember, Disney has near infinite resources. All of these problems are a choice.
That’s what I was thinking! There’s no way they couldn’t design costumes that are comfortable. Especially when it comes to a properly fitting corset!
It disappoints me that they don’t care
Are we gonna talk about how Helena Bonham Carter can play literally any part.
I fix the name autocorrect is annoying
This takes " It was... Fake? OF COURSE IT WAS FAKE!" to a whole new level
It’s sad that people bitch about how bad the live action movies are. But the actors went through hell and back to give us a movie.
They shouldn't have...
Just because they went through hazzles doesnt automatically make the end result good...
What are you supposed to do? Clap at a bad movie? Oh ok moreover, are they doing it for free? no? oh, ok
Some actors are unhappy with how their films turn out. Remember they film a lot of scenes but much is cut out. What gets cut out is decided by the director. So if you want to point a finger at someone, point it to the director, not the actors.
the actors do it to get payed

Belle's stupid live action dress fills me with rage to this day
Angelina Jolie just looking so stunning even throughout her make-up time-lapse transformations LOL

Its totally her choice
