My dad was a driver with massive experience in driving all kind of vehicles for the Arunachal Police. Gypsy was the first vehicle where I learnt how to drive a car. It is a solid reliable car even if it is malfunctioning. My dad drove a gypsy for months with a very bad steering play which no one had the expertise or time to fix the issue. The officers only allowed my dad to drive it coz only he understood the extent of play in it. If anybody else would have driven that car then most likely they would end up in a bad accident. I have many good memories with it as a kid. My dad used to drive the car and I would shift the gears.

As an Army brat myself, and ridden those gypsy only when I was with my father around the country. Must say the gypsy was like an icon for the Indian army refined smooth and reliable. Until the safari showed up, I personally think Indian Army's budget should be used more on armoured vehicles as most of the attacks on UT of J&K happen nowadays in a broad day light and frequent blasts. I really hope there will be more armoured vehicles in the Army than just utilitarian vehicles.

But uncle was least panicked. He got down, asked two men for help( we Indians are very helpful), and these four men, along with my Uncle's friend lifted the car, changed the position of it's rear, and the vehicle was all set to go...

one info though - diesel engines compress air to 1/16 - 1/ 18 times to ignite the fuel whereas
petrol engines compress between 1/8 - 1/9 times & also use a spark plug to ignite fuel.
now, on high altitudes , as the air is rarer as well as cold , compression only can't ignite it in diesel cars
    but
the spark plug does it in petrol ones.

See,army requires a multipurpose Light Vehicle with :-
    1. Multiple doors to ferry junior commissioned officers . Senior officers get safari now.
    2. A 6-8 seater variant which could carry troops of quick reaction teams , pilots , guards
    3. A pickup version with open bed so as to mount machine guns with rotating turrets
    4. Old gypsy king did all this .
    5. It's sub 4 metre meaning it can climb many steep mountains where other vehicles need to be reversed .
So , maruti needs to offer different variations of Jimny for it to be considered by army.

Side facing rear row seats on a longer deck is a must for defence use, yes.
The Gypsy, India received was a long wheelbase version. Similarly Maruti might develop a 3 door version of a Jimmy from its 5 door chassis.
A reincarnation of the Mahindra Invader based on the Bolero Neo platform in this seating configuration will also be interesting.

    • @srschhina5295
      @srschhina5295 Год назад +1

Absolutely right. The Gypsy was an 8 seater. The raised rear deck and raised rear roof section allowed troops to quickly get in and get out from the rear. They may have to adapt the long chassis Jimny on similar lines.
The 3 door Jimny will not find favour with the Army.
      Your understanding spot on.
