  • Painting People Simply in Watercolours, is this week's video tutorial presentation for you. 4 years ago I made my first serious watercolour video made in the corner of my garage, with poor audio and poor filming. The actor wasn't up to much either, lol. Over 74,000 people have viewed and enjoyed this 10 min tutorial.
Anyway, I wanted to revisit this subject with a longer tutorial offering more insight and improved audio and filming techniques. BTW the actor has also been trained a little better, we hope.

I am trying to bring you a new video art tutorial, split between my two channels and two loves, watercolour and oils. So each channel gets a new tutorial every fortnight Friday at 3 pm GMT.
My palette has changed once more as has my presentation of this tutorial. the palette is as follows. PALETTE
    Sepia
    Burnt Umber
    Indian Red
    Burnt Sienna
    Raw Sienna
    Yellow Ochre
    Neutral Tint ( Daniel Smith)
    Neutral Tint (Schminke)
    Indigo
    French Ultramarine Blue
    Cobalt Blue
    Phthalo Blue ( Windsor Blue)
    Ultramarine Violet
    Phithalo Green ( Windsor Green)
    Cobalt Turquoise Teal
    Magenta
    Organic Vermillion
    Trans Pyrrol Orange
    Indian Yellow
    Aureolin
The palette box is a cheaper version of a Holbein offering a 20-slot palette. If honest I have way more colours than if ever use. I often only use a few of these and a version of this palette with fewer slots would be better for most.
My brushes are mainly Rosemary and Co, Sable, and Synthetics.
My watercolour palette is as follows:

On my Patreon page, you will find the full versions of videos along with other full-time narrated tutorials for you to enjoy. I am using a limited palette as shown in the film.

If you are making your own version of this painting, please do so and I'd be happy to look at it and comment. Please do remember that your version is to learn from and therefore not for resale, based on my, demonstration and source photo... Thank you for respecting that

Excellent. Thank you. Loved how you carried on with the figures that you said had gone wrong because you really showed how to go about correcting them, and they looked great at the end.

I have really got to sit down & practice this very subject matter this week! I have been hesitant about placing people into my landscapes even suggestively because of the uncertainty of how to go about. This has been a great valuable lesson for me to give a go & to loosen up on trying to get more detailed people in my paintings. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information with us. I really appreciate it!

Thank you Paul, a great informative video. Having watched your 1st demo on this 4 years ago, I'd like to say congrats on all your recording techniques since then, you've come a long way in the last few years. As someone previously mentioned, it would be great to see how to go about figures in positions other than standing, such as sitting on a seat in a café or a waiting room or on the ground as in a picnic or on the beach. Further still, some life drawing/painting tutorials in the future would be fantastic. Glad you're on the road to recovery from your lurgy!

Really useful instruction and so simple that will allow painters to bring life to their artwork with a few of these additions.
Hope you feel a lot better very very soon.
    Best wishes.

A lot of men. Women are more difficult using this small, suggestive figure stuff...because the legs are harder when there's a dress or skirt or women's style slacks.
