Did the Dusky in march 1988. Starting at West Arm (Lake Manapouri) to Dusky Sound; from Dusky Sound to Lake Hauroko; from Lake Hauroko back to West Arm. Lots of mud, windfall, steep climbs, rain, snow on Centre Pass. In total 12 days on the track, including a hutday at Dusky-sound (fishing), and a hutday at Lake Roe (climbing Mount Tamatea). Tough hike , but I was in pretty good shape at that time. So nice to see this vid, brings back a lot of memories, thanks for uploading. Back in 1988, that's 36 years ago, you could not imagine that in 2024 there would be something like internet and youtube, and you can relive this hike in a comfortable chair !
Whoa, that was an epic trip! Even once across Centre Pass is pretty epic. Glad you enjoyed the video and it brought back some great memories for you. Its an outstanding part of the country. Thanks so much for the feedback, it's always nice to hear. Cheers
Thank you for sharing this wild trek; your vlog was amazing and inspiring. As for me, I’ve only seen the end of your trek’s journey, the road and lake Manapouri 😂
I have been on the Dusky Track back in 1996 and it was one of the best tracks you can find in New Zealand. Thanks for that beautiful film. It brings back so many memories. Great work!
Hi Linda, I agree with you. It's also my stand out track so far (and I've done a few!). Tough though. Glad you enjoyed the film and thanks so much for the feedback. I spend hours on the editing so its great to hear others enjoy it to.Cheers Jon
Thank you from a Kiwi. Great video. Fiordland is a vast true wildness that I have had the privilege to work in many times. It humbles you and toughens you. It gets in your bliod6. An amazing place
Can`t believe how lucky you were with the weather. Everything there is designed to be a sponge, absorbing the huge annual rainfall...Great VLOG, thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed watching your Dusky adventure! It was very interesting and informative. I learned a lot from you. Those three-wire bridges look really challenging. Never encountered them in my backpacking trips. Did anybody ever have feet slip off the wire while crossing? My friend and I are heading back to NZ from Colorado in January and are planning on making the Dusky our main adventure. Great video!
Hi George, so glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful for your future trip. No, nobody slipped on the 3 wires and they are probably more secure than they look. Hope you enjoy the dusky, its tough, but so rewarding. A stunning part of the world. Colorado's not too shabby either with all those 14,000ers.
Great video Jon! Enjoyed it very much, thanks. So good to spend an hour in the wildernes with you guys. Longing to come back "when I`m 64" (which I am, living in Sweden). Been in New Zealand, and tramping, 10 times and love your country. Going up to Sarek this summer, our own huge wildernes up here. Cheers!
Hi Steffan, glad you enjoyed it and thanks so much for the feedback which is always great to receive. Hope you get to visit NZ again soon and enjoy Sarek. Cheers
Epic trip. Epic effort. Amazing how you maintain humour and chill in what is surely rugged terrain in trying conditions. Tip my hat to you and your crew 🙏👍 ps heart dropped with unknown depth river crossing.. Been there, trigger event 😳😭
Thanks very much for the feedback Darrell, its so good to hear it landed well. These videos are a labour of love to get just right. It is a wonderful but tough place to travel through. We were the walking wounded by the end, a couple of us at least.
@@JonHiclimb I can believe that. Trust me your efforts were not in vein. You completed your trek in (more or less?) 1 piece and you have crafted a wonderful visual diary for us lot to enjoy 😊 again, much thanks. Hope the wounds didn't go too deep 🤕😂
I just tramp in soggy boots. Its surprising how little they seem wet after an hour or so and it really doesn't feel a problem unless its super cold. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the feedback

I enjoyed that thank you. I got knacked just watching it. I think I will go for a lie down.
Glad you liked the film Cedric. Enjoy the lie down :-)
@@JonHiclimb What's interesting is that when I did this in 1977 we flew in to the west arm and walked out at the power station. 10 days and no rain.

Glad you enjoyed it Warren. It is a very special and unique place indeed
Well done & thanks for sharing!parts of it look absolutely otherworldly, but ridiculously stunning nonetheless.
Hi there, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video. It certainly is a wonderful area and the best tramp in NZ in my opinion.
Great video! I ‘ duskied’ it in 1996 and watching this video brought back some great memories..Nice job👍

@@JonHiclimb Best wishes for the next tramping-season!
Thank you for such a beautiful inspirational hymn to stunning Fiordland. Merry Xmas!!
Thanks Christopher, I really appreciate the comment. Glad you enjoyed the film. It is a stunning place. Happy Holidays to you to
Wow, that was a thorough video! Makes me want to go. Even though I know that rainy conditions can wear you down.
Thanks very much for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it. Valued comments especially as your films are particularly beautifully put together.
Great video. Fiordland is not for the faint heart6. It will catch you out or kill you if you are not prepared.
