Did the Dusky in march 1988. From Lake Manapouri to Dusky Sound, Dusky Sound to Lake Hauroko, Lake Hauroko back to Lake Manapouri, so doubletracked all the way. Took me 12 days, including a hutday at Dusky-sound for fishing, and a hutday at Lake Roe for climbing Mount Tamatea. Tough hike, but I was in great shape then, and was lucky with the weather. Great to see your vid on youtube, brings back great memories ! Wish I could still do hikes like this, but I'm 73 now, and live in Holland, where we don't have this kind of stuff !
I spent a lot of time in this area in the late 70's and I very much appreciate seeing this again. April was very late in the season, you did well to make it through!
A couple of us walked up the Spey River from the Wilmot Pass road one fine day - well, two, there and back. We weren't carrying much and it was quite dry - hadn't rained for at least two days! We got to the Upper Spey Hut and the track was pure mud from there on. Centre Pass had a bad rep, too. That, and the three-wire bridges were enough for me ... Mind you, this was in the 80s.

Sounds like an epic few days! I must get back down there and do it again.
This is on my list to tramp one day. Awesome seeing it with the snow. Loved all the bottomless mud pits and water crossing bits 😂
It's definitely one for the bucket list. I'd love to go back again sometime, this time with better camera equipment :-)

Thanks for watching, glad it brought back some good memories!
What an epic journey! Thanks for the flashback.
Yes it was an amazing trip, many parts of it are still etched in my mind even today. Thanks for watching!
This is incredible thanks for sharing! Never made it to this spot but it's making me want to go back to NZ and give it a go.
Thanks for watching, hope you get to walk it at some point!

I'm not sure the Dusky has improved much since then - still an absolute mud-fest to this day! 😂😂
This probably means you have to do a 20th-anniversary trip!
That is being discussed! 😀
