My number 1 style rule is to watch every video put out by Erin Busbee. Dead serious. I am 53 & my grown girls (24 & 29) are brutally honest in telling me what does/does not look good. But they have never been able to define my style....you, Erin, have taught me how to do that for myself. And I am eternally grateful!
Cindy McReynolds Mine too! I wish I could get my mom to sit down and watch Erin's videos. Being 70 doesn't give you a pass to wear baggy clothes! I love my mother with all that I am but I wish she would get a make over! My sister and I are so fashion conscious and I wish it would rub off on her. You only have a couple of years on me, and I don't have any children to tell me if I'm not cutting it, but I think Erin has our backs!
This is the BEST note! Thank you so much for sharing your kind and supportive thoughts with me gorgeous, Cindie! I am beyond grateful!!
@@tammieparrishmiller3669 I know what you mean... but you probably can't change her at this point. She has to want to change for herself. Maybe it can somehow be her idea?
@@BusbeeStyle Erin I have a friend who is very stylish and is the same size as my mom. I realize there is an age gap but she doesn't give her anything inappropriate. I ALWAYS compliment my mom when she is wearing something cute and she has a wonderful shape. I love my mother with all my heart and she is my best friend but hard headed like a mule! Guess I'll leave it alone and be happy to spend time her. Thanks Erin!
The only person's opinion that mattered to me (beside my own), was my mother's. She KNEW what colors, and styles were best for me. Now, my daughter comes to me, and knows I will not steer her wrong. Enjoyed very much, Erin. Blessings, and joy...MaryEllen
Thank you so much, MaryEllen! ~Erin xo
I am so intimidated and lost when shopping for clothes for myself. So I avoid shopping for clothes unless I absolutely need them. Even then I still walk out with something that I am not always satisfied with. I usually regret my purchase after. I have a hard time knowing if the clothes really look good on me or not so I do end up asking someone else. I feel like I am doing better shopping now because I am shopping with a goal to build a capsule wardrobe. Shopping basics and clothes that go together. The tips you give help a lot and make sense.
Erin, I live by the accessory "rule"...they can transform a basic outfit without breaking the bank. I am lucky to have a trusted "shopping buddy" who always tells the truth - even when I don't want to hear it (LOL). I also have a few stylists at Nordstrom that I've worked with for years...they are always truthful. Thanks for the tips!
How wonderful to have all those ladies on your style team! Thanks for sharing, Nancy!!
I need a shopping buddy that will be honest. I have a teenage daughter. I tried some boyfriend jeans thinking they would be mom appropriate. She tells me they look like toddler pants and that I should stick with my skinny jeans which I didn't expect. I often seem to get it wrong :( I don't trust her shoe opinions though or I would be wearing vans and combat boots.
I love watching videos like this. The one "rule" I live by is that often fashion advice won't apply to your body type. For example, I am 5'3 with a small frame. I hear all the time about how petite women should do things to lengthen the look of their legs. Well, I have a somewhat short waist and proportionately long arms and legs. Making my legs look longer makes makes the disproportion look even more noticeable. I dress to balance the look of my midsection. Being petite or tall or anything doesn't mean universal fashion advice will apply to your body type. =)
I love that you mix pieces from existing wardrobe to style new pieces with and accessorizing things to make them more on point
I'm in my early 30s - I love your videos! They are definitely helping me elevate my style game and look more classic/elegant. Your style tips are gold!
I'm so glad! Thank you for sharing! xo
Such a great video! I especially loved #1. I’ve heard so many women say “oh I can’t wear such & such color because I was told I’m in this category...” That is my pet peeve. It’s all about finding the right shade & seeing what works with your skin & hair coloring.
"Take photos of yourself in your clothes": The best wardrobe advice I've ever gotten. Two years ago I took photos of myself in every piece of clothing I owned (over a weekend) and Wow, was it eye opening; especially when things I thought looked great turned out to be only "eh". What a way to weed out my closet! Since then, I've been working to get my basics together, but thanks to you (and Marie-Anne LeCouer) I am closer than ever to having the wardrobe I want! This video is full of great advice. Thank you!
Great tip, Deborah! xo
Hi Erin great tips thank you! You are so right in regards to colour - everyone can wear every colour - they can be shades from light to dark and cool to warm. The only one that is different is orange which is strictly warm. Looking forward to accessorizing your lbd! xxoo
Taking a picture in an outfit you are not sure is great advise.
I did this when choosing between two dresses for a wedding. While both were flattering and pretty, one was just cut better in the arm area and the other actually made my upper arm look bigger then it is. I might not have seen that if not for the pictures.
Great idea Catherine3385! Thanks for sharing.
I think this is a very good video. The tips are good - especially the taking a picture one. Ultimately I have to feel comfortable in what I am wearing. It’s entirely possible the salesperson is right and I look great but if I don’t feel comfortable in an outfit it isn’t for me. Also yes yes yes on dressing for your shape. Some trends look better on some people than others. Body flattery is key for me. I won’t feel good about myself if I feel an outfit overemphasized my flaws. Again, It’s all about liking what you see when you go out.
Love Wednesdays and Fridays when an Erin vid pops up in my feed! Always inspiring and educational.
Thanks. My style rule is comfort. When Im comfy in my outfit , shoes and with my accessories - I can be more comfortable just being me.
Just my opinion but we need to be a little careful with how far we go with prioritizing comfort, especially as we get older. I would not leave the house in sweatpants. Ever. If I'm not out running I won't be wearing my running shoes either. I enjoy being treated with respect. It's possible to be comfortable and not look like (and get treated like) a slob -we just need to be super picky about fit. Taking care of how I present myself reminds me to take care of myself in other ways too, like choosing healthy food instead of grabbing any trash that is quick and cheap.
Nova Norman, I absolutely agree with being comfortable! I can't wear high heels anymore, but I can still look amazing while being comfy at the same time. As long as we feel good while having a signature style or a uniform as Erin puts it, we will look good!
Another great one! A style rule I often use as my signature is monochromatic dressing similar to your all green outfit. It is flattering and slimming!
Like the one about trusting one's own judgment. This is one I struggle with. Can't tell you the number of times I've wished for someone I could trust for a consult. There really isn't anyone. Not my Mother, not my best friend. They either don't have the best taste themselves or they don't want to offend you. . . the picture taking thing might be a good trick. I'll have to try that one if I can figure out how to do it.
The picture taking idea is a great one! Let me know if it helps! ~Erin xo
Great video! Thanks for all the info and advice . . . loved this one. These videos are so helpful and go straight to what we need to hear. Erin, you look beautiful - thanks!!
I've commented quite a few times on how much I love your videos, Erin. I'm 56 and have always loved fashion but it wasn't until a few years ago when I found your RUclips channel that I've really "learned" what works for me. Thank you so much, this was a great video. xoxo Josette
That is so nice to hear, thank you Josette! ~Erin xo
Erin, I swear, I look so forward to your videos! I was excited this morning because I knew there would be a video waiting for me! I have to say that all of this makes so much sense. I was actually made fun of for wearing a very fashionable outfit many years ago. I live in the midwest, just minutes from downtown St. Louis. I looked those girls up and down and walked away laughing! I know it sounds juvenile, but that always stuck with me because I put those girls in their place. I know what feels good and looks good on ME and that's what matters, just as you pointed out. I'm 51 [for 22 more days, lol] and I am so glad to have RUclips and your channel to feed my need for fashion! Magazines and television used to be our only resources. Thank you for always having great content and all the efforts you put into your videos. You are my fave! Tammie
I am in my early 30’s n still love watching your videos because you are simply awesome!
You are SO sweet! Thank you... Erin xo
Rule #2 is an absolute must. You know when you feel good and what fits properly. Salespeople are generally positive. My sisters are brutally honest ❤️. Taking a picture is also great as what looks good in a fitting room mirror can look different in your home mirror.
I totally agree! ~Erin xo
Loved the "rules"....ones to live by...LOL....I enjoy your videos so very much. I always have at least One great take away from them. Thanks , Joye
These are excellent rules to live by. Thank you so much for reminding me what my mother taught me!!
So glad to hear that! ~Erin xo
So true and inspiaring, Erin! You are such a kind and friendly person, its always a pleasure to watch your Videos! All the best for you, Kerstin from Germany 🤗
Personally I think that if you feel good in what you wear and the styles you like, you will also look good. Confidence usually shows in a positive way. At least that's when I get the most compliments.
I agree, confidence is important! ~Erin xo
Oh my gosh you are amazing and even though I might be a bit younger, you are teaching me so many things that are actually making me excited to be a woman again...I always found everything a drag and you're helping me see things SO differently! Thank you!
That is SO sweet of you, thank you so much! ~Erin xo
Erin you rock!! Great tips❤️
I just got the same green faux leather skirt. Will wear it with a green sweater. thanks for the idea
It makes SENSE!! Thank you Erin!!!
Thank you, I have been telling people for years what a great scarf or bag can do for an outfit.
So good! I think how you feel in something is the best guide--I need to listen to you when it comes to others opinions!! lol, I will send them here to watch this! 😂 😘 Lisa
Great video Erin. I'm totally guilty of falling into the black and grey rut. I'm aware of it but it still happens. 🤦♀️ love the picture idea. I'm going to use that for sure. Thanks Erin!
Your skin is glowing-perfection!
I really like your videos. You truly give great advice.
I've started taking pictures of my outfits and it's really helped me feel better about my outfits. A- trusting what I already know about what looks good on me. B- helping me translate new (to me) trends in a way that looks best on me.
Yay!! ~Erin xo
Erin, you have helped so much in how to put an outfit together. I would love to see a video on “what to wear for the holidays”
I did a few blogs on this! busbeestyle.com/2018/11/20/warm-holiday-outfits/ and busbeestyle.com/2018/11/10/unexpected-holiday-party-outfits/ ~Erin xo
Was thinking I didn't have a signature style.....then went to pick out something to wear from my closet full of dresses (mostly shift) & blazers. That is what I feel the best in! Thanks for another great video Erin! Also...will try to get myself out of the black & grey rut!
Yay! Often what you feel the best in is your style uniform! ~Erin xo
Great video, Erin. I’m very fortunate to have a shopping friend who had no problem telling me the blunt truth! I think your advice is excellent!
That is so wonderful! ~Erin xo
#2 Is so important and one I need work on. 💜
Great video! Love all these wonderful suggestions!
Love this video! The only thing I can think to share is to consider your lifestyle. Until a few years ago I would buy things that were really cute and looked great on me BUT didn’t suit my lifestyle and they just hung in my closet. Helped a lot to figure that out! 😁 xoxo
Such a great video! I wear black most of the time, but ever since I started watching your videos I've learned how I add pops of color to my outfits and it works so well with the black! Yesterday I wore a yellow sweater to work which I never do (I usually wear black or dark colored tops/jackets), my manager thought I had changed my hair color! She said she usually sees it as black, but yesterday she was so surprised at the different tones and shades of brown and red in my hair. So crazy! I never even noticed this!
Yay!! ~Erin xo
“As I’m wearing gray” - I absolutely love how real you are! This video was fabulous. Thank you!
Haha gotta keep it real! ~Erin xo
Great advice Erin!!! Totally agree with taking a photo. Doing a MAJOR wardrobe shop (spend a whole day on it) and taking photos can be so uplifting and enlightening especially if you can get the rear view aswell! Also agree with the accessories, I particularly love scarves. They can be very 'educating' if you are not sure of colour combinations, just look at the colour palettes in scarves, they will give ideas you could never imagine! Also good advice to go with the colours you love but in the right tone to suit you eg. delicate for pale skins, warm for warm gals, deep if you have deep skin and, sorry to be honest, hardly anyone actually suits black clothing!!!! oxox
Awesome video and advice.
Just love watching your videos. I’ve learned so much from you.
I love the jewelry you are wearing! All of it! I'm 39 but a fan of your channel I just found today ☺
Aww thanks!! ~Erin xo
Great! I love that video ❤
Great advice Erin! Thank you much for sharing ⭐️
LOVE ERIN. Thanks for you videos.
Outstanding video, Erin! You're by far the best youtuber concerning fashion. I already live by those rules, but loved loved loved the rule #2!!
I have a rule that I follow when I am shopping for clothes; I get ready looking my best before I live the house and only buy outfits that can beat that look. Works for me!
Please Erin, make a video of hair care, since a really good looking hair is one the best acessories we can have.
Thanks for another great video!
That is a great idea! ~Erin xo
I just updated my winter work wardrobe with tons of vibrant colors. I had way to much black and blue and it was depressing!
Thanks Erin!
Yay for bright colors! ~Erin xo
Great, smart and informative video. Sticking to my own personal style has been my goal lately as a a result on Black Friday I did not see much so I did not buy much for me. My family on the other hand made out like bandits:)
Have a great week and weekend😘
So glad to hear that! ~Erin xo
Blessings to you! 😊🙏❤
LOL at your 4'11" reference and cropped jeans!! I'm 4'11" and don't mind cropped jeans! 😁 I don't feel cut off in them at all because ALL cropped jeans fit me exactly ankle length anyway and I don't have to worry about getting them tailored. 😂😂
You're right, throw out the "fashion trend rules" and wear what you love... wear what you feel comfortable in that flatters your shape!
I love your blog; good advice. I always try to shop by myself because I know what I like and what type of clothes fit my body. Thank you for sharing the information and reminding me of everyone else's opinion. I agree with the below comment regarding my mother. She used to work at an upscale women's retail shop and would always call me when something came in that she thought I would like. She was right.
Great video! I trained my daughter to be very truthful with me when shopping, sometimes she was PAINFULLY truthful! LOL I remember once, when she was about 4, and I was trying on an outfit and she said "mmm, I think that makes your butt look big". And, you know what? She was right! My butt wasn't big at all, but the outfit made it look much bigger than it was!
Great video Erin!!
Insightful video as always x
Fab video. Thanks Erin x
These are great rules and a fantastic video! And I really like that all green outfit, would look great on me too!
Great video Erin! My rule would be always add bangles or a watch even if you skip earrings.
E, you look sooo good, healthy-natural beauty!! Huge MAZEL Tov on your marathon accomplishment. Xx
I admire you, such a classy beauty. And, so insightful 💕
I have a rule that has to do with picking out clothes, not necessarily a style rule but a personal one. Love yourself. I find when you have a negative attitude towards your image it makes it impossible to be happy in your own skin let alone clothes. I don’t pick my body apart because the item doesn’t fit, I just decide that the item doesn’t work fo myself and move on to the next. Style is very personal and individual, and there are so many options, just make sure you love yourself in the process of finding it. ❤️
I think this is so important! Thank you for sharing! xo
My number one rule is: when in doubt, Don’t! If you need a second opinion on whether something suits you, the answer is no. There’s a reason why you have to ask, go with your instinct no need for validation.
Great info as usual, Erin! I did purchase the MK gold bag when you featured it last year, I love it and it really makes a statement 😍
Yay!! ~Erin xo
I’ve lost a lot of weight so I have trouble seeing what suits me. I take photos of myself as it helps me see myself. Great tip. Great confirmation. Keep your RUclips going. I love your style.
Thank you so much and congratulations on your accomplishment! ~Erin xo
Some great advice as always!!! Thanks! And by the way- you look beautiful today!!
Hi Erin it's that time of year to attend holiday parties I'd love to see an updated version of last year one... lots of love
Best video - thank you! I love to send your videos to my friends. B
I love your videos!!!!
Great style rules presentation Erin! Really enjoyed this segment and all the examples sprinkled in! I had a bold confident stylish wise aunt who told me to always listen to men. If you get a compliment from a man, whether it is your hair, your fragrance, accessory or style - continue doing what ever "IT" is - because "HE" said so. ; )
All makes perfect sense to me, blondie!!! ♡ ♡ ♡ (-; Hope you are having a terrific week! Barely survived Black Friday and Monday! Taking a deep breath...Channukah, Christmas, New Years!!! Could you do a hair updo update again, please with sugar on top!!!? Stay warm, Lydia XO
Hi gorgeous girl !!! Great tips and great advice !!! Ty for sharing !!! Very helpful !!! Hugs ❤️
Hi Erin what great sensible advice I take on board everything you say, I trust you only and your the only one on you tube I follow about clothes you are such a really lovely girl and I love your style and the way you present everything and you give us it all in great detail thank you dear friend have a great week lv jan from Northern Ireland ❤️😘💐🍀👗🛍👚👠👜
You are so sweet, thank you!! ~Erin xo
Erin, thank you for all this information, it truly was a great help.
SUGGESTION: Can you please do a “Holiday” outfit video? Some ideas for casual party to formal party and everything in between. The help would be great. Thanks.🎄
Love your videos!!!
I just love your videos 💖 great advice 💖
Thank you so much! ~Erin xo
Love color and agree w/you about wearing complimentary colors. Also like monotone colors to give a longer line at 5'4"!! However, I love a jacket or cardigan pattern to pull colors out for column dressing ~
this is probably my go-to look for casual. Love this video and will check out the others you mentioned.
Btw....not liking all the grey, tan, beige, mustard shades for fall /winter (def. a cool tone here :))
There is a warm, cool or neutral version of every color. Anyone can wear any color, just pick the undertone of that color that matches yours.
You go, Erin! The entire point of fashion in the first place is to help us look our best! No matter what style's, and trends we choose it should always be about what makes us look our best, and have us feeling beautiful! My #1 most important rule no matter what is do I look balanced and in proper proportion! Some styles can make us look way out of balance! For egsample, I don't much care to see petite women in a long oversized shirt cropped pants and a shoe that cuts off her leg! It makes her look like an apple on a short stick! This look is not flattering at all, but I see it all the time!
Yassssss!!!! All of them!
Super one!
Your make up looks fabulous!
Awesome video !
Oh yes! I wish I would have heard this from you 20 years ago....... thanks
Aww thanks! ~Erin xo
We all get stuck in the Black rut...I am guilty! 🌲
We all are! ~Erin xo
Would love to see a video of how to style both flat mules and heeled mules! Help please!
I hate when I go to a restaurant and ask for a recommendation and they tell me what’s most popular. What is most popular is rarely what’s best. Also the chef’s recommendation has a good chance of being whatever ingredient he wants to use up.
I had a friend who always had better success shopping when I came with her. Basically I was just a cheerleader.
I think other people give honest opinions best if they have options. Like have them pick between 2 sweaters and then ask them why they chose one sweater over the other. Detailing, color, fabric, cut, etc. I do this when I shop with friends and the comments become a lot more helpful.
Like toddlers! 😉 That’s a great idea... thanks for sharing!
Love this video! Erin you’re so beautiful and wonderful! ❤️
I have a couple of telly good friends that I go clothes shopping with and we are very honest with each other if it it doesn’t look good we will say so, but I think sometimes you know 😊
Hi Erin. You are great! Love your videos. You are beautiful and inspirational! Thanks! I hope you make video about party outfit ideas!
I love this! The southern gal in me still cannot wear white jeans before Easter and after Labor Day! I may need professional help!
Love watching you ....
I can relate to "don't trust your friends" part,I went shopping with one of my friends a few years ago and she said I didn't look good in a dress and she ended up buying it,(both of us similar size)she couldn't tell me she wanted it for herself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I needed to hear that. I have some ppl say no that washes you out etc, but even if it's not the complimentary color adding bronzer lipstick couldn't that being out the color more? Like the color pink if it's too blush it washes how can I pop a garment piece more? Luv you and your videos and your so beautiful inside and out. Have a beautiful blessed Christmas🙋🎄😉
You're in my head when I shop, like Clinton and Kelly used to be. I did use a shopping app called Allume, they were very helpful at pointing out colors and styles that were good for me. Now combining their knowledge and your video's I have been getting SO many compliments! Now when I walk into a room, they say, " look at Michele all stylish and put together. " Ha, so NOT put together. I'm trying a little at a time, and some of my pieces are from Target, TJ Maxx, and all the sales from Nordstrom and Macy's.
I love this note! You are so awesome and you are DOING It! And reaping the benefits with wonderful complements and I’ll bet you are walking around a little bouncier too! Keep spreading the amazing style and sunshine! And thanks for sharing the app and note!! Erin xo
HATS! I love hats.... on other people. I try and try to wear hats but I can't find one that I think I look good in. Plus I have a small head. A video on how to find the right hat would be awesome!!
