In Pennsylvania Dutch country we put the cut up onion in with the ham and the beans. If you don't have a ham bone like yours we use ham hocks. The other thing the Amish do is put dough rivals in the bean soup. They are just water and flour mixed to form a dough and then added into the bean soup about a half hour before it's done. Some people might call them dumplings. What ever you call them I'm not a fan. I wouldn't have one problem eating your bean soup.
My father used to do something very similar. He would use regular pinto, black beans, or any other beans that is cheap, cut up leftover ham, turkey, chicken, and let it boil all in for about 2 to 3 hours. Simple and easy for camping.
I think I would cut up some onions, carrots, celery, a little garlic, and some dried parsley and thyme. I DO like the idea of eating a slice of yellow onion along with the soup. 👍
The only problem I had with your presentation was I dang near gave myself brain damage what with my tongue beating at the roof of my mouth! Excellent instruction!
I love beans. Wonderful outdoor meal.

Man that looks great! I’m going to give it a try this weekend. I re seasoned my lodge 12 deep camp oven and your video inspired me. Thanks!
Great video. It inspired me to make them today for our family Fourth of July cookout.

Great video!! Looks GOOD
The only thing missing is some good chow chow! I just got a 5 qt. dutch oven and this is going to be the first thing I'll cook!!!
I like to use chicken stock instead of straight water. It adds another layer of flavor.
Looks delious
Beans, beans, the more you eat, the more you want 😂

Please keep making and uploading these videos.

Yes! indeed tasty protein recipe at is best.
So I go to the Gold claim weeks at a time so take a ham is out of the question because I hike in I'm guessing salt pork would work great too
The metal pan that the dutch oven and charcoal sits on is what kind of metal and did it burn your table under it?
My man took a bite out of an onion like it was no problem wtf lmao
Is that sheet pan sitting on a plastic table
How many cups of beans did u put in there
That’s good eating there
ham me give you more meat but Hawks have better flavor but then again I've only done it in a crock pot or on the electric stove
The less you stir the better
Hoks make bean soup taste better then ham. But ham does give you more meat though and yes ham does give flavor as well.
I clogged my toilet after making this
I use pinto beans
Spiral ham is the cheapest Most screw up ham you you can but !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No self respecting person of Southern Appalachian Heritage would EVER, use white beans. There's a reason that we call them Northern beans. 😉
If you call Nebraska northern, ok. But what bean would a self respecting person of southern Appalachian heritage approve of?
