Actual butter wins as it doesn't have industrial lubricants (seed oils)
Country Crock is my favorite! Baking, cooking, on toast. The flavor is the best!
I say coupon, not Q-pon 😆
I should’ve watched the whole video first because now I have a bunch of random comments. No, miyokos is not cheaper in California but my Costco did carry it for awhile and that was a good deal
Which buttercream tasted best?
Country crock is my go to! I like that it has options & is cheap but doesn’t taste cheap .
I know this was a neutral butter taste test but I have to note that the Miyoko’s Garlic Parm Oat Butter is MAGICAL ✨
It's perfect on toast and on pasta
Miyokos garlic parm butter is amazing!
I think you should have used Earth Balance sticks for the frosting. The Earth Balance tub seems to melt quicker when left on the counter than the sticks. Just a thought. Great video as always! ❤️
I agree!
I agree. The vegan butters in the tubs don't work as well for baking as the sticks. I think the plant butter in the tubs are meant yo be more spread more easily, whereas sticks are made for baking.
True! The first time I baked a vegan cake, I used the spread, instead of the sticks…it was a mess. I was clueless.
Agree a hundred percent
The sticks have a slightly higher oil content so they are a bit denser- def better for frosting
I usually spend only $5 for Miyoko’s butter! It’s my favorite. The oat butter is good as well ♥️
Amazing!
Trader Joe's sells Miyoko's for $4.99 in Southern California. It's the only reason I use it so often.
This is an advantage of living where it’s cold at Thanksgiving and Christmas time…the garage serves as an extra fridge/freezer.
YESSSS
The face he made when noticed her just eating the butter without the bread, made me laugh so hard I cried. He was in pure shock.
I feel the Miyoko’s cashew one is most like real butter and is the indulgent one, but I like the oat butter too as a basic butter. Lol! Of course I always have Earth Balance on hand. It’s a must! I tried Melt about 2-3 years ago and liked it in baked goods, but also tried it on white rice and felt like it had a sweet undertone which is why I preferred it in cookies.
Thanks for sharing the comparison !

No lie, when the original Miyoko's and unsalted Flora go on sale, I'll buy 3 or 4 packs and chuck them in the freezer, because those butters are exactly like European butter to me _behavior-wise_ so I use it for old timey family recipes I seldom make. Tortes and pastries and such. Country Crock--the avo oil one, which tastes like Land O' Lakes to me--I use for other cooking and baking. I haven't had Earth Balance in years because the first time I tried it I traveled back in time to the Fleischmann's Margarine of my childhood. Nope! Haven't tried Melt. Enjoyed this; ThanksForPosting!
you said Nope! hahaha Also - can you drop us an email at makeitdairyfreetoday@gmail.com We have something to ask you :)

Earth balance is my choice for making cannabutter for those who are interested in those green treats :)
The buttercream test was SO useful! TY!
I guess I’m a butter novice as well….because once I tried Miyokos I loved it so much that I never tried any others and where I live it’s $5.99. I may have to try some others now!
Also I say coop on.
I can't believe Andrew missed the opportunity to call you 'butter fingers' when you dropped the toast and butter! Great video again, thank ya'll!
I really liked the commentary on baking. Very helpful! I'd love a few videos just answering user questions about vegan baking.
I use the Miyokos, various Earth Balance and Country Crock on a regular but my favorite will always be Miyokos. As far as color goes I remember that homemade dairy butter was always lighter in color than store bought.
Amazingly Helpful! Thanks. Brilliant buttercream test. Can't wait to make a cake.
Thank you so much for doing this! I normally use the country crock but now I'll try the myokos (when on sale lol)!
Miyokos has been my go to, but I had no idea it went bad after 3 weeks! 😳 thank you for doing this, it's good to have other options.
Flora and Country Crock are my favorites. If for some reason I can't get those, I love the soy-free Earth Balance. I used to like Miyokos but stopped buying it for the reasons you stated, the other butters are simply better and then of course more affordable. I've never tried Melt, but would like to. I love taste testing vegan products!
I live in San Francisco, and Miyoko’s vegan butter is ALWAYS at Grocery Outlet for $3. It’s also often on sale at regular stores for $4.
People don’t realize food is cheaper in California. That’s the one thing I miss about living there.
WOW, what state do you live in & what store has it on sale, pleeeeeze!
I sometimes find Miyokos at Grocery Outlet but be sure to check the expiration date!

Miyoko’s butter’s unbeatable. Great cheeses too. The cream cheese may also be the best. Your videos are so much fun!
I love and use country crock. I use it for everything where I would use butter. It makes a light and flaky pie crust. It costs 2.98 at Walmart, but I usually get it at Fry’s (a Kroger affiliate).
Same!! I work at Fry's so I buy almost everything there, but I'll have to check out the prices at Walmart! Thanks for the tip ☺️
I love it and use it too… it’s $2.18 at my Walmart
In NJ , you can find miokos at a few Walmarts for $5.99. It's our "special occasion" butter and the best tasting one! But we normally use the earth balance soy free one because I like that it has flax oil in it. 😜
Yessssssssssss, Melt! The most buttery.
Haven't tried Flora, but none of the rest of those compare to Melt imo, and it's good in cooking. If you're sauteeing, cook off a bit of the water, and it will perform really well.
Thanks for the comparison, but wondering was the flavor of one particular buttercream a winner? I've tried with EB before and find it a little saltier than desired.
We use EB sticks for everyday, but I love the Miyokos cultured butter. Miyokos shared a non-cultured butter recipe several years ago that I tweak using cultured cashews and it tastes spot on for the one they sell, costing me half as much, so I make it for special occasions.
I’m here just to say thank you to this lovely star seed, Larisha! Never fails, I can be having the worst day…the moment I hear her infectious laugh I quickly realize, it’s not a big deal. Relax and love more stress less…again, thank you ! Andrew, you’re a blessed 🙏🏼
Thank you for this comment. You totally just made my day. Have a great rest of your week and Happy Holidays!
Only one (Flora) I have seen in Europe and still, cannot get it in my country easily :D But it was still an interesting video because I'll make more informed choices for buttercream making! Thank you guys!
.
Lots and lots of love!
Stay safe and have a wonderful end of the week!
Country Crock was a game changer for me. Specifically when making frosting. The taste is amazing and holds up so well. I only have one other plant-based butter to compare it to, Earth balance which to me has a horrible unnatural taste.
Yeah I'm not a fan of EB..I taste and smell that 'something' you're talking about..
I agree, I thought EB had an almost "fishy" aftertaste.
Miyoko's reminds me of hotel bar... they also have a garlic one that I love but it's hard to find... I love it for grilled cheese... I have a few different favorites for different things... on toast I love "I can't believe it's not butter" or Country Crock spread... for baking I like Earth balance sticks, Country Crock sticks or Flora which I've only tried once... for cooking I like Earth Balance Avocado Spead in the tub... I would probably use Country Crock or Flora for a buttercream... can't wait to see how the results end up... I wish I could find flora in my area... I ordered mine so I was able to try both salted and unsalted
Once upon a time my family and I were buying two different brands of butter. Country Crock CC, for myself and a cow sourced brand called Challenge for my wife and kids. One day I convinced them to try CC and they were amazed at how much they enjoyed it. Right then and there, my wife said that we're a CC family!
Our local store only carries two flavors, olive and almond, each in stick and spreadable. We came to realize that the olive CC has a more savory zip to it, which is more appropriate for making foods such as garlic bread. The almond CC has a smoother and mellow flavor, which our youngest daughter prefers on her toast, as well as it being the better choice for baking cakes and cookies.
Thanks for the buttercream experiment. I can't wait to tell my wife about that, as she is the baker and I am more of the cook.
Great review! 👍
Thank You for posting this 🤗 I was just wondering which vegan butter taste close to real butter 😋
We like Earth Balance, so that’s what we use, but what’s your first choice for baking? Do you have the recipe for your buttercream icing that you used on your website? Thank you for sharing another great video. 😊
Miyoko is the tastiest butter I have ever had. I just cooked the vegan meal from your other channel
The Alfredo. I used this butter and tasted it on toast first. OMG🤯 totally my 1st vegan butter and I'm not going back.. also first vegan meal I have ever made or ate. Amazing
Love your videos! You are hilarious! My kitties love regular butter which, of course, I don't eat any longer. The only one they will eat instead of butter is Melt. Both the tub and the sticks.
My thoughts:
Country crock - Budget/Value. It is actually cheaper than regular butter (even bulk butter) at least here in Tennessee. $2.98 in Walmart.
Mikoyo - I would only use it for a recipe asking for a European style butter.
Earth Balance - The name implies it. The balanced one.
Melt - never tried it
Flora - Salted/Unsalted version which benefits for us bakers. Also, it stays the most stable at room temperature. Unlike country crock, this butter stays pretty firm the longest. It is perfect for buttercream.
I love the Country Crock myself and the price point is the best. Taste exactly like real butter
My favorites are country crock and I can't believe it's not butter. I love that they hopped on the vegan band wagon!
Side note: I found it adorable that you guys had to ask if you were arguing. That's so wholesome.
I haven't tried any butter alternatives aside from Earth Balance. I've tried the tub for just basic cooking and a spreadable consistency but the stick butter is bomb for baking and everything else in my opinion. I also enjoy that it has a buttery taste so I don't miss it.
I love your review on butters. I am kind of new to being vegan. I have only tried Miyoko's butter. After this review i want to venture out and try the other butters. I buy the Miyoko's butter in trader joes for $4.99. which is not bad price point.
I’m a vegan baker & I usually use earth balance sticks or country crock. The sticks are harder to find but I have a connect. Fairway near me in NY usually has earth balance sticks too. Also CUE PON 😬
I will have to try these other ones. Thanks for doing this video. You also mentioned New Jersey so I’m assuming you live there. I’m from Jersey as well! So that is fun! Excited to check out more of your channel.
Yes we are!
Yeppp I used to live in the bay area..so so expensive but the vegan scene is insane !!!
oh man!
Both the cashew and oat butters by Miyoko are great but the cashew lone is number one ❤️❤️🤤😋
I just wanted to say thank you all so much for always listing the ingredients in the substitution products you try out. I've been vegetarian for about 12 years and I've tried so many times to go vegan but I am allergic to all treenuts as well as all beans and lentils. This helps me out so much and now I know what products I can look for. I can eat sunflowers, coconuts and peas so I'm excited to try the Melt butter
oh man, that's hard with so many allergies, but I hope you continue to find some good products from our videos!
This video is very Helpful.
Hiya! Cali groceries are actually priced normal if not cheaper then most states...I pay 4.99 for miyokos at trader joes...but it's 6.49 at whole foods. I feel sprouts has a lot vegan items but they are also the most expensive in my opinion.
Yes we're extremely lucky in Northern California & we get Miyokos for $2.99 at Grocery Outlet & their cheese shreds for less than $1. I do use Miyokos in a lot savory dishes like mashed potatoes, mac & cheese along with those cheddar & pepper jack shreds, but I also love it on my waffles & toast. I really like Country Crock & I used to love Melt but I can't find it anymore. I don't think I've ever seen Flora at store near me but I've wanted to try it. Earth balance just ok to me. Thanks!😎👏🏾🥖🥞🥐☕
Myokos is made with coconut oil and cashews and is palm oil free. The others are made with vegetable oils which are not as good for you. Myokos is superior in taste and is the best for you too. I find it also works the best for baking. Ive had some issues with the melt and country crock in baking. Trader Joe's has Myokos for $5 in western WA. And my grocery outlet just had it for $3 so I bought like 20 sticks and froze it because I go through a lot because I bake a lot. Myokos hands down for me!
I buy Country Crock. Now I have to try Earth Balance. Thanks for the review.
Enjoy
I like the earth balance sticks!!!
Coupon comes from the French copper, meaning , "to cut." I assume it's called a coupon because the coupon is cut out, from back when they were cut out of the newspaper, or from a magazine. It's prounced, "coopon."
I like Earth Balance, Country Crock, and Flora too. I find my stomach handles the Earth Balance best. Aldo, just FYI, for a budget friendly option, Imperial Margarine recently simplified their formula, and is now vegan. You can get a 1 lb. container of 4 sticks for anywhere from 88 cents to $1.19.
I love the Country Crock Plant butter but I am going to try to find Miyoko's. Y'all are so cute!
Thank you! 🤗
Miyokos here in Nc is like $7. We buy country crock since it's in every store and our kids don't react to it. It also goes on sale and I get like 4 boxes at a time while my husband looks at me like I'm crazy! 🤣
So far it does fine in cookies and on grits. That's pretty much what we use it for.
Country Crock with almond oil is my favorite.
I tried miyoko's it good on toast in oatmeal, tried earth balance vegan with soy didn't like it. Country crock never tried it, never heard of flora. We have a discount store that sell miyokos at 3.99. My husband loves country crock. Thank you for the taste test.
I love Miyokos butter. I really like to bake with Miyoko, I think it's the closest vegan butter to real butter that I've tried. My second choice is country crock for everyday use.
Thanks for sharing!
I had to make my own PB butter. The last butter that I bought was Earth Balance soy free. I found that I have a sensitivity to some of the ingredients. I have a very long list of the food that I am sensitive to and can't eat. I have to make adjustments to a lot of recipes. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
I prefer the almond country crock plant butter tub for eating and the sticks for baking
You said that target had the mayonnaise that you liked what brand is it please and thank you
trader joes usually carries the miyokos butter at around 4.99-5.29 in CA👌
My mom got regular country crock my whole life so I definitely go to it because its familiar 😄
We'll have to check the price there when we go!
For the cream frosting what vegan milk did you use
Not sure if they sell it anywhere other than Canada but Becel plant-based salted bricks are really good.
love the pink i am bringing butter nut squash halves to thanksgiving and there are vegans and meat eaters a like i am familiar with all kinds of vegan butters but there is so much choice now i want to try some new varieties out there and the butter and sugar are the star of my dish so thanks for this....
I made my own and it turned out great!
Flora is my absolute favorite across the board, but if I can’t find it, I go for the Country Crock one. ☮️💜🌱
Country Crock is my fav butter, both the sticks and spreadable container
i use earth balance unsalted sticks for baking bc i neeeed unsalted! country crock plant butter only makes salted products which are better for cooking breakfast/dinner etc and the other brands shown are harder to find and pricer!
could you add xanthium gum or something to keep it firm?
I use earth balance for cooking and baking it seems to not burn in a fry pan ..and I use kite hill and vio life as a spread. 😁
I only use Miyoko's on popcorn because it's the only one I've found that doesn't make the popcorn soggy (it's the water content and emulsifiers). It's too expensive to use for anything that doesn't require the specific qualities that it has.
I like country crock and I've also had Miyokos!
I love you guys’ channel! I love the ambience and you guys as a couple ❤️ I’m always here when a new video comes up 😆 (that probably sounded creepy 👀🤣)
Thanks, you two! I made my own butter using Myoko’s recipe and it is pretty easy.
Sounds great!
I love the country crock it's the only one I buy. Reminds me just like original butter.
Awesome
My family always bought country crook brand growing up and to me, it was bascially margarine (in the big brown tub). Before going vegan I loved Irish cream butter because it had that natural hint of sweetness, even though per once it was more expensive. I'm interested in the best unsalted vegan butter for baking and regular use, so thanks for that! It's a bit hard for me to find unsalted vegan butter in my area but I have not checked Wal-Mart or Publix. We usually shop at Aldi or Lidl (very similar to Aldi).
Flora makes one
Treat your Queen right. 🙏🏽😇
I would love to see you guys do a vegan grocery haul
Thanks for the idea
I always get so tickled when you say expecially Dahling‼️💙😘
I love the Melt butter sticks and I enjoy country crock
Nice
Tanyaaaa is back
What’s your recipe for the frosting
Earth balance I feel like is an all around hit. The myyokk (unsalted version) I didn’t enjoy I never tried it asa spread maybe ill give it another shot. I haven’t tried any of the others I’ll see what you guys recommend.
*miyoko
I like both of Miyoko's butter!
Country Crock Almond Oil has been our go-to
Thanks for another great and funny review! Of these only Flora is available (readily) in the UK, though we have quite a few others. I've tried Earth Balance when in the US, and was blown away. Flora (salted) is my favourite though, on toast and in mashed potatoes!
Flora isn't even available here in the US anymore :(
Ah, that's a shame, hope it comes back soon. Still, looking forward to trying (all!) your US recommendations when I'm back over, hopefully in late summer!☺
What is the flora made out of
I actually didn’t know there were that many vegan butters. Me and my wife are very similar to you guy’s, I’m the baker, and we have only used earth balance for frosting. We do buy Miyokos but for us it melt’s very fast and never would’ve thought that the frosting will hold like that. I haven’t look closer to the label, but I think the earth balance sticks are somewhat different to the tub ones.
I agree about earth balance. And there are actually even more brands than they showed.
Miyoko's is my favorite but I also use I Can't Believe it's not Vegan Butter as well.
I love the Miyoko's garlic oat "butter," which use for garlic bread. I'm not a huge fan of their spreadable oat butter - the coloring is a bit off-putting and it has a distinct weird taste. I like the block Miyoko's, but Earth Balance is my go-to. Also, I say "cue-pon" vs. "coo-pon".
Def important to shout that out. All the garlic lovers gotta check that out. so good.
Has anyone tried browning any of these? I wanted to use brown butter in a cookie recipe. I think Myoko would be able to cus of the cashew ingredients, but haven’t tried this out myself.
My favorite is earth balance
You two are cute! Great video! I always just grab one and don’t consider other brands!
My fave is miyokos because it's the healthiest.
I'm curious, did you notice a taste difference between the buttercreams?
I say coupon the way Andrew says it. Out the five shown we have Flora in UK supermarkets. I don't buy it because I wasn't that keen on the taste of butter.
I butter my bread with Melt (the kind in the tub). I bake with Country Crock because it's cost effective and bakes up really nicely.
Also, did he say "novist"?
Awesome! He definitely said novice the first time, but I can hear a t at the end the second time
Friendly shout out to all the baking dads out there 😊
Sorry for this off the wall question, your beard ,my sons have special needs ones beard is straighter and the other son his beard is coarse how ever both beards get flaky sigh I brush them but I need to know how I can help them have the cleanest nicest looking beards as posible. Yours looks AWESOME! Products? Help.😊😊 Thank you
