- On a daily basis, I ride and commute to/fro work with a daily mileage of approximately 50km if weather permits! Sharing a snippet of what my daily route or routine looks like. Thank you for watching!

Marsling to NTU daily loop is dedication. Keep up the good job!
A great deal of mental toughness to do this for so many years. Respect!
I'm also commuting to work three days a week 40km every day. The thing I hate the most is traffic light! Lucky first half of my ride has no traffic light at all, I can't imagine those who are surrounded by traffic light
8 years Cycling to Work ! This require High discipline ! Weldone!😊
Hey buddy, discipline is definitely key! But after about a month or so doing it, it will become habit! I am quite certain anyone can do it with the right mind. Thanks for the compliment!
Great video. Fellow commuter too. Marsiling to Changi🚴
Awesome job man!
Love the dedication and the consistency
I also cycle to school everyday but only change my tyres once a year AHAHAHHAA
I feel that having a commuting bike and a weekend bike can keep the maintenance costs much lower, especially when commuting with a more expensive bike. A cheaper commuting bike also gives me the peace of mind that my weekend bike isn't battered everyday and I can reduce the mileage of the weekend bike to reduce those expensive replacements
thanks buddy! so far I've been commuting on my one and only, maintenance upkeep costs-wise have been within my acceptable limits as far as I am concern. a good takeaway is the ability to be very accustomed and in-tuned with riding it, and fully "understanding" the bike inside-out.
Bicycle commuting is the way to go. Good job.
Wow. Thats impressive! 50Km Daily Bike to work! Watching here from Manila Philippines! NEw friend here Bro!
I commute 6.5 (flat) kms daily to work and 6.5 back. 5x week. I'm 65 years old.
Kudos to you! Keep going.
The guy who piloted the fighter jet was probably a little faster to get to work, great job on the commitment to cycling it is a tough challenge but the benefits outweigh the risks, inspirational!
Overtime it just becomes a routine in the form of a good habit! Thanks for tuning in buddy.
The better health part, I liked it but also factor in that we roadies cannot avoid a crash sometimes especially your route and timing doesn't give u empty traffic. It could take away all the health benefits sadly. Ride safe!
That’s right! Safety first, always.
@@briankok Not when you're riding with only one hand on the handlebar. Please don't do that.
Hi Nicholas, you may be surprised to learn that riding with one hand on handlebar is a skill you have to master because you ought to point out hazards to other cyclists behind or drinking from your bottle while rolling on your bike too.
Nice, I am a bike commuter too, mine is 32km almost daily
Nice! I am doing 102 km total per day mixed Road Bike and Pedal Assist E-bike (up to 25kph) 3x a week except for winter here in the Netherlands. My Road Bike is faster than my E-bike. 😂. Brompton + Train during Winter. But WOW, you are doing it for 8 years, impressive!
You’re impressive yourself too! Kudos.
How do you deal with/overcome the fear of other road users? A taxi driver once overtook me on this single lane with his side mirror right by my handle bar, haven't been able to shrug off the fear ever since. Would love to get back into the habit of riding to work even if its once a week. Thanks!
Hi Julian, what you experience is not uncommon I will admit as well. For starters, due to the nature of overtaking drills while driving; you may want to consider cycling at approx 2/5 of the lane from the yellow line on the left kerb. That way you in turn discourage vehicles from overtaking you within the same lane due to the space remaining.
However, this requires long term practice. After enough time on the road, you will gain more confidence and bike handling ability to comfortably ride straighter and nearer to the edge while maintaining your general direction as vehicles overtake you on the right.
Of course again, nothing will ever beat drivers who are outright blatantly endangering you while overtaking too near for comfort.
If there is pavement. Cycle on it. No need fear anymore of cars
@@andrewie4 Hey there, its a nice tip for new cyclists no doubt. However, for those requiring to go the distance at some point of their journey may struggle quite a bit with pedestrians and their unpredictability as compared to vehicles considering the odds.
Bro living the life. Good video!
Oh yes, can you share what cameras are you using for this video? Thanks!
Hey brother! 😬 thanks much. A GoPro, I am basic that way. Haha!
Ride safe always!
Thanks Brian, you are inspirational, Is Singapore Too Hot and Dangerous to cycle? How do you "Be Safe, Be Seen, Be Cool"? I commute twice a week, Taman Desa near Mid Valley to KLCC, 25 km round trip for past 4 years. Cycle for Mental and Physical health, hopefully not compromised by air and noise pollution .... cheers
There are defensive riding techniques that I adopt while commuting on the road for my own safety sake.
In my case, cycling to work allows me to save a total of 40mins daily. Win-win situation as long as I don’t overstrain my body and know my limits. Take rest days and revert back to public transport whenever necessary.
Cheers!
I did this in 2017-2019 doing this 3x a week. About the same amount of time taking the public transport. From Woodlands to Science Park 2. About the same mileage at 50km, return. Then the COVID nation attacked! Now I work from home in a hybrid manner.
Hey there! Nice to hear a comrade. I guess circumstances are different for you now.
@@briankok Was riding in the wee hours predawn but now transitioned fully to indoor riding. A more consistent producing results this way.
hey Brian nice video! just began commuting to work as well on a mountain bike. is a road bike much more efficient? what model are you using in this video?
Hi there, depends on your use case and preference; road bike tends to go faster, however, alternatives like mountain bike provides more comfort. If you're referring to my bike, I am using a 2013 Eddy Merckx frame.
commuting from pasir ris to clementi was great for me, kinda miss it when i commute from pasir ris to loyang nowadays.
riding in the rain is best for me, road is dangerous so i stick to pcn where theres no one except like minded folks.
Hi there, nice to hear from a fellow commuter. However, I often opt out of PCNs because pedestrians behaviour on walkways are less predictable than vehicles on the roads. So contrary to popular belief, actually humans pose a bigger hazard to me while I am cycling. Ha ha ha.
currently, i'm trying to squeeze 30km/daily....
(it's not easy..... cause i have to force myself to wake up at 0500hrs and out the house before 0530hrs.....)
It may differ in varying circumstances. In my case scenario, riding 25km one-way allows me to save approx. 20mins each trip amounting to 40mins daily when compared to public transport and an immense benefit to cardiovascular health gains. You gotta do what fits your situation best! But good to hear from you as well.
Cheers buddy!
Salute bro! RIde Safe & we might meet along your route as U I stay CCK.
Hello! So inspiring and motivational. Was wondering if you measure your heartrate? And if so do you keep it low?
Im glad it did.
I don’t usually keep tabs on my heart rate for commute trips. However, I am fortunate enough to have a powermeter equipped bicycle so I tend not to smash these rides since I’m required to be functional for the rest of the day.
Hey brian, nice video! Was wondering what earpiece do you use during your commutes? For calls and to listen to music.
Hi Roy, thanks for the compliment! The ones I am using are Aftershokz Aeropex. Since they play music via bone conducting tech, you can better hear your environment allowing better situational awareness. Hope this helps!
Hi brian. What kind of bike do u recommend for those commutimg to work via bicycle? Hybrid or road bike?
Hi Syarafuddin, that could depend on your preference. Hybrid bicycles commonly come with slightly thicker tyres means more comfort. On the other hand, road bikes tend to allow you to go slightly faster due to ergonomics and more aggressive gear ratios.
You should consider bluesg bro… i also cycle to work. 24km. If it rains… put bicycle in bluesg then off i go😊
Not a bad idea! Thanks for the recommend. Cheers buddy.
how u avoid inhaling all the bus exhaustion
You don’t, but it’s the same when being exposed as a public commuter too.
Hi if you dont mind, can you share with me how to cycle from woodland checkpoint to pasir ris please. Im new here in singapore
Hi Isa, a good starting option is actually to use google maps; plot your start and end point but additionally checkmark under option to avoid motorways. But it will help to still check the route via google earth to scout it out first as well before you give it a try.
I’d love to cycle to work.. but my office has no damn shower :/
That’s a bummer i must say! Not gonna lie.
Very true.. I tried living on wipes 😂 and freshening up in the wash room but not quite same as taking a fresh shower! This is really good though.. it kinda sparks my interest in cycling to work again
Do you take a shower when you reach your office? Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to start work being all sweaty 😅
Hi Desmond, yup! Im quite fortunate to have shower facilities within my work environment. Not an issue there at all. But you’re right in that aspect since our climate doesn’t exactly promote commuting unlike European countries for e.g
@@briankok Where did you park your bike at your workplace? Simply bring it into your office?
Hi Hafeez, yup my office is bike friendly. Lucky for me in that aspect! No fear for bike theft whatsoever during my work hours.
Good for you! Perhaps I should apply job at your workplace. Let me know if there's any opening for engineering position 💪🏼😎👍🏼
Hihi wad weather app do you use?
Hi there, mostly apple iphone’s organic weather apps. Alternative NEA website is pretty reliable too.
rain or shine also cycle? hows the driver in Singapore?? Ride safe
Typically I don’t start cycling if its already pouring, but mid-ride rain don’t bother me as much I would continue anyway. Cycling is the easy bit, but since I ought to do my own maintenance ha ha ha.
I believe drivers are almost similar across most Asian countries, so that is an easy reference if you ever been in any.
@@briankok totally agreed with u, dont really dare to cycle here as well in JB, but really salute you. Determination and perseverance. Take care
have not started work already TIRED
In my opinion, it’s slightly about building fitness but more about time/cost savings in the long term as well as the exercise-induced dopamine release. Give it a try! Start slow and progress overtime.
Hahahaha well done❤
wow.... i doubt my steel touring bike can reach that speed
Hey there. No worries, safety first. That comparison is not a fair one to begin with anyway. I’ve had my bike for almost 9 years now, just thankful for its reliability.
@@briankok
thanks for the reply
i live in batok and work in taiseng ... and quite honestly i lost my nerve for riding on the road after being hit by a car
Oh mine! I hope you’re better now. Take care buddy.
@@letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgo I was hit by an asshole too. Sorry cars are like guns, they don't harm anyone. Only assholes do that. I must say he was skillful and did a very close pass to nudge me to lose my balance to cause me to buang. I go out for rides now and then but mostly at home on the trainer because the training is more consistent. I don't ride to work now because my work situation is hybrid at the moment.
Not only tires and chains. You need to factor in your fuel. I bet your appetite is voracious. I know those who cycle for commute eats like a bottomless pit.
Ha ha. Not gonna lie I love to eat as if its a past-time hobby.
@@briankok Carry on eating
All army regulars to cycle yo camp. Lol😅
Cheers Encik. ✌🏽
