@@Richard_Weaver Hopefully things will be a bit smoother for a while now! It's good to see all sides of it though. Social media can definitely mask reality at times, so the transparency definitely adds to what you're doing - keep it up!
Hi Richard - appreciate the honesty in the videos, it’s something that isn’t displayed anywhere else so please continue doing that. I’d honestly avoid using the word ‘clubman’ though, as this is normally associated with someone running a car on a shoestring. A ten grand bill would end most people’s season. I doubt the average ‘clubman’ would be having an R5 fiesta delivered to events and ran by Dom Buckley motorsport. This is far above what the average ‘clubman’ can afford.
Thanks mate. I do appreciate what your saying and I’m glad you’re liking the authenticity I try to bring to the videos. I think the part in the video where I’ve mentioned that I’ve failed to run it as clubman covers that, and I purposely left that ‘word’ out of the title on this occasion. 😂 I think what I’m doing is in the spirit of a clubman, and trust me, another ten grand bill will be breaking my heart and ending my rallying for the foreseeable! I’m walking a tightrope for sure. Don’t be fooled into thinking I’ve endless pots of cash for this project…but of course realise I have more means at my disposal than most to even attempt this. One man’s shoe string is another’s bootlace I guess. Again, I’m glad you’re enjoying the content and this is a genuine effort to run a top car against the odds! I’d also add that having my car with Neil Buckley, had actually saved me money in the long run as he found what a mess the transmission was in. Had I carried on there is a good chance I’d have grenaded all of it eventually. I do all my own tyres for the events and the car lives with Neil sitting on wets, so I save the cost of their labour swapping all of them around.
Another interesting video and insight into things Richard. Great story telling, very enjoyable even though the costs sound a 'bit' painful. Keep the faith!
Thanks very much mate. This is the intention, for people to see my experience, without the sugarcoat. I think this is about as real as I can make it. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad you’re enjoying the content 😊🙌🏻
The capital cost is the killer and the potential drama of a write off through fire is a worry; ergo, you’re left with nothing. Running costs can be similar to a proper GrpN/A car depending on luck or lack of it. If you’ve got an expensive engine & gearbox in a GrpN/A car, the costs to maintain is going to be comparable. It’s being tied to M-Sport that’s the issue, along with parts availability as well as cost.
@@Richard_Weaver 100% - I'm in a near stock class, and been looking at much more modified classes. I keep thinking of just jumping to R5 instead of inbetween. The running cost per-rally tbh seems similar fuel / tire wise to R5. The parts, different totally. R5 is a lot higher purchase cost too.
@@Richard_Weaver ha! That is mostly me, with some of the older stuff being someone else. No idea how to fix it. I'm actually in Vegas, but race mostly in Barbados / Caribbean, but I'm also English. I just moved my license from the UK -> Barbados. Rally in the states seems prohibitively expensive due to transport / travel and the related crew / car transport stuff, as well as not really being the same class wise...so far it's easier to fly!
How much do you think privateer teams are paying to run in the WRC for a full calendar? Even if you take the logistics cost out of the equation, all the parts/rebuilds/repairs must add up to a silly amount 😮
@Richard_Weaver I've been watching the Jim Clark Richard and its been brilliant. That Lancia stratos is a cracking car sounds amazing and the escort 1800 bda (heavenly):)
Great insight as always Richard. It's nice to see someone talking openly and honestly about the realities of running these cars.
Thank you. I’ll keep it up. Hopefully fewer sob stories of expense in the future content!! Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🏻

It’s no bed of roses! Thanks for your comment and I hope to get the next video out after Southdowns stages 2nd December. 😁
Your vids are really nice, it gave is a glimpse about how challenging and rewarding can be to own one of these cars

Great video and thanks for helping to let the clubman know what it's like running a car like that. I always wondered and now I know!
No worries Baz. I’ll keep you all updated. 😊
Appreciate the insight your videos provide Richard. Keep them coming. Im sure those 8k bills are tough to stomach but glad to see you making it work.
Thanks Kevin. I’ll be dropping another vid before goodwood. A possibility controversial one.
Richard these insights are fantastic. We’re running an N12 and I’m trying to plwy the game of ‘can we afford an Rally5’

Thanks for sharing! I'm in an E36 and been looking at moving up a few classes - hearing these costs is super helpful.
The problem is it’s such a jump from where you are/I was, to get to this level. Glad you like the vids 👍🏻

What events are you looking at Russell? Edit: you’re in Barbados (had a look on EWRC 😊)

Good luck mate. Sounds great fun!
FIRC is fantastic!! Belguim rallies are much cheaper than any multi venue rally in the Uk, professionally organised and so welcoming
Yes. I’ve enjoyed many happy times in Belgium.
You should try to get back out there
Good video and content. One question, How does an extinguisher be over 10 years old in a 2014 car in 2023??
The cylinder was made in 2013 hence the rejection. That’s what Lifeline said in the letter.
I’d love to know some of the alignment specs that M-Sport suggests for these cars, what kind of caster numbers are on the front?
WhatsApp me +447734556951 and I will send the M-Sport geometry sheet 👍🏻 😊
Come and do the Legend Fires North West Stages in March 😉
If funds allow mate. 👍🏻

I wouldn’t be sure. I guess if they’re lucky it’s not any different to an R5. Problem is some of the WRC components are 10 x the price of R5 parts.
Depends hugely on what team you’re running with but a full WRC2 season with a top team like Toksport would be in the vicinity of 1 million euro.
That's huge. Do you have any sources?@@jacksonclendon2987
Sell the r5 and enjoy going sideways in that Mark 1!!
Yes. Everytime I think I’m getting somewhere with the escort, things go backwards again! 😂
Thanks again for the videos Richard. Straightforward and honest with no BS.
Thanks Mark! 🙌🏻
Sell it and get a proper grp4 escort mk2
I’ll go back to an escort when I’m done with this folly.
@Richard_Weaver
Get the fiesta up to the Argyll rally next year, Richard
I think I’ll do the Jim Clark. Probably do a smaller campaign so the budget can be spent with Neil to make sure the car is spot on.

RAC on at the moment. Jim Clark in May. It’s confusing 😅
