Steven has amazing character in his tone. It overshadows most of the technical flaws of which you speak. Overall, his voice is very easy to listen to. Especially compared to so many of the more polished singers, who are frankly quite forgettable. I've just started listening to your videos over the last few weeks. He's in his early 70's and he still can belt out his voice like no tomorrow. God bless him, anyone that can sing would be blessed to still have a great voice like Steven at his age. That man can still scream out a tune without failing...So that's my two cents about Steven Tyler...Real name Steven Victor Tallarico, that Italian man can sing! Bello!
I have to say that you've been a huge influence on me. In the summer I started learning to sing. I started progressing little by little using your free tutorials. Don’t get sick of me, ok lol, but this was a riot! I don’t sleep so well sometimes and I watched this one at 3:00 am this morning. You had me laughing all the way through it! And your detective skills are incredibly sharp to boot! I lost it when you imitated all the faces he made in the one part of the song (16:02). It was hysterical! You are very fortunate that you have such wonderful gifts. You are blessed! Thanks for sharing 😊💗 Oh, I do have to say that Steven’s style is endearing to we rock fans as Aerosmith is affectionately known as “America’s Rock Band”, and that raspy voice has earned him his wings! 😀💸
Steven Tyler is by far my most favorite vocalist, because of his signature Whining vocals he uses at the end of his vocal lines. He is one of the most original sounding vocals I have ever heard. With his rockstar image, Original signature voice, Amazing stage performances makes him a legend and he will always be the best vocalist of all time with amazing history Of great hits! I love everything about his greatness I would never change a thing he does!
The inhales he uses are magic...This guy spit on me while performing Sweet Emotion in Charlotte N.C. when I was a teenager and I still love his range !!! Love your work Brother...Rocker in NC...
All of those things you say you do not like about his vocals are true technically but as a artist he is making a song his own making him stand out as a artist and what made him him IMO
Steven Tyler is one of my favorite singers, but watching you do the "lip thing" while he was singing was the hardest I've laughed in a long time. Thanks Ken, for helping us all with our crippling pandemic depression as well as our singing.
Steven is a one of a kind rock singer, and I think he did everything for his Art so no analític wanabe star singer would understand what is the meaning o singing not just with VOICE but soul
If I may, respectfully, about reverbs: When you listen to isolated vocal tracks, you don't have all the buss and master compression, limiting and eq, so the reverb seems smaller, less present. Reverbs are always cut below say 100-150 Hz to eliminate unwanted low resonations. Echo, delay and pitch fx are cut even heavier on the lows and on highs.
Steven is so unique, and I personally don't care about the imperfections in his singing, he's just the one and only Steven Tyler. I love his style and voice so much. If I had to choose only one singer whom I have to listen for the rest of my life, it would be definitely Steven Tyler. Gotta love that guy!
Great analysis. I've been to a few Aerosmith concerts and I can honestly say that Steven (and the band) never phone it in. He always leaves it out there. You always leave the concert with your mind blown.
Now that’s a singer and a half. Tyler really is a rock legend if ever there was one. Thanks Ken. Some funny points and interesting analysis and your education on his weaknesses was very interesting ! Always speak the truth I like it.
Music can be very complicated in my opinion. There are thousands of different perspectives when it comes to music and that's what makes it interesting for me. Only a few artists have had the ability to really connect to its listener on the deepest levels and to move people emotionally through there life. Micheal Jackson, led Zeppelin, Bob Marley,Nirvana just to name a few. They just didn't show up but they changed the world and that's powerful..thanks
Man Ken you teaching stuff they dont even teach in schools in music classes, America could really use more music/singing teachers like you in the school systems
Stephen is a legend and he has a great real soul to his voice, definitely one of my favorite vocalists ever. I saw Aerosmith in the early 80's at the height of his heroin addiction and he could barely stand on the stage yet his vocals were amazing. 👍✌
Ken, I must comment! I don't comment too often! First, I didn't know Sammy Hagar was your cousin! Very cool! Awesome! I love Sammy Hagar's voice! Love it! Steven Tyler is my biggest singing influence, which may or may not be the best model to be influenced by because of the vocal harm he's done to himself, however, the things that you subtract from his voice that you personally don't care for, I love. Those little vocal pinches, those blasted falsettos, non-modal, almost death metal falsetto screams of his, those are part of the signature characteristics that make his voice iconic and immediately identifiable.
I remember when my brother brought home the album Toys in the Attic, it was so different. But then he brought home Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon. OH MY! Our dad worked for Magnavox and we had a top of the line stereo and headphones and I was blown away. Vinyl was amazing! Thanks for sharing our generation of music. (And yes it makes me crazy hearing the squawks and the "wichu" takes me right back to my vocal teacher beating that into our heads..."with you!"...lol)
I love him and his voice, period! His walk this way rendition is what made me fall in love with his style and then I got to really listen to his own creations.
Most useful isolated voice ever. Especially for me. Because this song I study and exercise entire last month. Daily. For next year on the stage performance. Most hard is for me part 23:56 - 23:58. This part will necessary exercises much intensive than others parts. Even highest notes not so hard a like this 2 seconds. Thanks Ken.....👍👍👍
I actually think the scream you pointed out sounds amazing, I can do that note but try as I may I'll never be able to make it sound like that. It's just so unique that it doesn't get any better than this.
Ken I fantasize you reacting to my singing even though no body knows me but even if it hurts it would be an honor but anyway I sing at church for 15 people crowd but I’m the most thrilled when I know that my Redeemer is listening to my praise and worship it is awesome!!!! And I just want to thank the LORD for the nice treat of coming across your videos which I know they been a big help for my singing and He knows how much I delight in His presence.
I enjoyed watching you critique Steven Tyler. It’s crazy how much there goes into singing, saving your vocal cords, breaths and so many terms and techniques. Ken, I’m a lousy singer. I don’t think there’s any hope for me but I’ll check your free demonstrations for the hell of it. Wish me luck!
Sometimes, just sometimes during concerts, he would sing some lines of a song with a very technical voice, and dare I say, with some vibrato, and MAN he has a beautiful voice! I would love to hear him sing like that more often, but his style is what makes him and aerosmith what they are
Gonna watch this series religiously and practice with it. I don't intend to sing on the stage myself, but expanding my vocal range actually enhances my inspiration in music-making. I don't know why it is so, but somehow if I can't sing it, however imperfect, it just doesn't come to me in a song Im making.
Omg Ken you really make me appreciate top artists so much more.. it's such an intricate art that most won't see behind the scenes in the creation of music
Steven Tyler in his 70's sings better than most artists nowadays. Truly love this singer 🔥 And a question for you Ken, do you think Dimash is the best singer out there today??
Once again great analysis Ken. For me steven is a live singer! Her stage vocal performances have been amazing for all these decades! And his vocal tics are his signature, it makes him recognizable from the first notes
It's like Bruce Dickinson, Axel Rose, Vince Neil or Ozzy, their signature is so unique and their tics with it that they are recognizable with their eyes closed. And I find that their "flaws" are natural in the end
He's got that hyper vibrato but it's not very noticeable within the mix. I love the violence in his voice on tunes like "I'm Baaaaaaaack, I'm back in the saddle again". He uses his breath as emotion, It's very noticeable in this isolated track.
Grew up on Aerosmith. Toys in the Attic is my fav!! This song was great for the movie but not one of my favs. Just listening to his isolated vocals tho was fantastic. This is one artist I always had trouble singing along with but understanding the isolation of his voice was very helpful. Great job.
Tyler's voice is one of the miracles in rock history. Early then steven didn't know what vocal warmup back then but the real score is how he sustained his voice throughout the years by using it imperfectly. His voice is legendary. His voice is like a rubber band that really strectched to its limit ya know what I mean. You are right steven's voice is in reverse, age like a fine wine.
I am very surprised that you didn't have anything positive to say about how he pulls this off def disagree with you on this one he is one of a kind and unbelievably unique and amazing singer and performer!!!
Tyler is probably the only singer I can think of whose voice didn't completely change (for the worse) with age. I find it remarkable that the guy still sounds like he sounds. He hasn't exactly lived a clean life (the understatement of the century). Oh, and as I make this comment, the guy is three months away from being 73 years old! Tyler may sound better today than he did in 1975, which is absurd! Steve Perry was the best vocalist I ever heard, but I think singing Journey's catalogue (which wasn't the easiest to sing) night after night on tour, took its toll on Perry's vocals. Tyler is an absolute legend. I can't think of a more legendary American Rock band who has been at it as long as these guys have been at it.
The deamon of screamin'. I can see your point about Tyler's voice. It's not for everybody. Myles Kennedy is the singer in my favorite newer band Alter Bridge, and i think his voice is the same where you love it or hate it. I'd love to hear this style of video on their song Words Darker Than Their Wings.
So helpful and informative on multiple levels. My brain is full from this! Plus I love the casual way you share your take. I got lost a little when you detailed the brightness of the original recording versus this one (thick and tubby reverb issue) but that's my bad. Will have to relisten.
Steven is being Steven! Technically proficient or abstractly melodic... he does it his way! His inflections and nuances make it who he is! Imagine him singing that song technically correct and not deviating? It wouldn't be an Areosmith song anymore! Aaaaah, aaah, aah, aaah, aah, aaaaah!
@@SonnyGTA Dude, not cool! Yeah, Jon lost a lot of his voice, but he still has it. Steven had surgery to keep his voice Jon hasn't, no hate on Steven at all, but you just can't hate on Jon for that. Back off
RUclips recommended this video so I gave it a look. As someone who studied sound engineering in film school, I find this video totally fascinating. You have a new subscriber. I'll definitely be watching more of your videos. Bravo! Loved it!
that's so cool you point that out about him being in the song so much it's like he's singing right to the person it's about . I love that it's so cool to hear Steven isolated . thanks again ken. oh that plosive is probably from the size of his mouth which I'm convinced that having a big mouth helps singers .
Steven one of my favourite singers...He has a special voice culture...Thanks Sir for putting this video and told us all about his singing technics 👍👍👍..
Steven Tyler was great Ken he is a icon every one likes him love to hear him sing dream on love in a elevator he is a awesome singer a legend he had great vocals so I always enjoy his singing he is great Ken one of the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I learned a lot from this video!! And I will study his technique so I can improve and add more flavor to my style of singing!!! I've been watching your video for a year now, and my skills in hearing the tones and styles of singers got more sharp and I also improved my style of singing! Thank you Sir!!
This song was written by Diane Warren for the movie “Armageddon.” It’s not an Aerosmith song. Steven Tyler said in an interview that he didn’t want to do the song, but then they showed him the scene where Liv Tyler, Steven’s real life daughter, is saying goodbye to her father in the movie, played by Bruce Willis, and Steven got choked up and agreed to do the song.
All of those "imperfections" are what make his singing so great. He has a style of his own that just works perfectly for the songs.
No argument from me.
Amen!
yup, imperfect imperfection perfect 🤗

Once again great analysis Ken. For me steven is a live singer! Her stage vocal performances have been amazing for all these decades! And his vocal tics are his signature, it makes him recognizable from the first notes
Well said!
It's like Bruce Dickinson, Axel Rose, Vince Neil or Ozzy, their signature is so unique and their tics with it that they are recognizable with their eyes closed. And I find that their "flaws" are natural in the end
The end is epic
He's got that hyper vibrato but it's not very noticeable within the mix. I love the violence in his voice on tunes like "I'm Baaaaaaaack, I'm back in the saddle again". He uses his breath as emotion, It's very noticeable in this isolated track.
Thanks for the visit!
Grew up on Aerosmith. Toys in the Attic is my fav!! This song was great for the movie but not one of my favs. Just listening to his isolated vocals tho was fantastic. This is one artist I always had trouble singing along with but understanding the isolation of his voice was very helpful. Great job.
Glad it was helpful, Sherria!
TOYS!!!! Big Ten Inch. What a great album!
I’m loving this isolated vocal stuff. I love Steven Tyler but I also respect your view. Keep The videos coming.
Thanks! Will do!
Thanks for the visit!
Saw them Live during the PUMP album tour, awesome stage show! USF sun dome Tampa Florida
Cool, JD M!
Isolated Dream On would be pretty epic! but this is close to it, always grateful for the knowledge.
Awesome! Rock on!
just as I was going to post a comment calling Steven Tyler the GOAT you called him a goat.
great timing.
👍😎
I am very surprised that you didn't have anything positive to say about how he pulls this off def disagree with you on this one he is one of a kind and unbelievably unique and amazing singer and performer!!!
TOTALLY killer series. Isolated vocals, acoustic.... NOWHERE TO HIDE❤️
Really glad you're enjoying it!
Is Steven the first male rock singer in history that was able to sing higher successfully as he got older?
Thanks for listening!
Rock on!
So helpful and informative on multiple levels. My brain is full from this! Plus I love the casual way you share your take. I got lost a little when you detailed the brightness of the original recording versus this one (thick and tubby reverb issue) but that's my bad. Will have to relisten.
Ken I spat out my coffee laughing at 16:10 when you mimicked some steven-isms , love it, such a great vid thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Steven Tyler has the God's given voice, there is, will be no singer like him.
This is very cool! 🤘🏻
He has amazing gifts
I think What it takes shows much more of his vocal abilities
maryanne razzano 👍
Love that one! Angel was great too.
Rock on!
Still one of the greatest songs out there. Makes me tear up everytime I hear it.
👍💜😀
These optical illusion shirts just get more epic
Haha!
Love his vocals so much!
Always wanted to do a cover of this song!
Thanks for this demonstration!
My pleasure!
I was waiting for this video. Please make one for Jon Bon Jovi
I might!
I believe Ken is only reviewing GOOD singers.
@@SonnyGTA joke’s on you. He just did a video on Jon Bon Jovi
@@SonnyGTA Dude, not cool! Yeah, Jon lost a lot of his voice, but he still has it. Steven had surgery to keep his voice Jon hasn't, no hate on Steven at all, but you just can't hate on Jon for that. Back off
The track is not raw and naked. It has effects on.
RUclips recommended this video so I gave it a look. As someone who studied sound engineering in film school, I find this video totally fascinating. You have a new subscriber. I'll definitely be watching more of your videos. Bravo! Loved it!
👍💜😀
that's so cool you point that out about him being in the song so much it's like he's singing right to the person it's about . I love that it's so cool to hear Steven isolated . thanks again ken. oh that plosive is probably from the size of his mouth which I'm convinced that having a big mouth helps singers .
Thanks for watching, Timothy!
Steven one of my favourite singers...He has a special voice culture...Thanks Sir for putting this video and told us all about his singing technics 👍👍👍..
It's my pleasure!

Wonderful analysis..U are best Trainer
Thank you, ABTS APOSTOLIC VOICE!
I learned a lot from this video!! And I will study his technique so I can improve and add more flavor to my style of singing!!!
I've been watching your video for a year now, and my skills in hearing the tones and styles of singers got more sharp and I also improved my style of singing! Thank you Sir!!
Rock on!
Ken, thank you for this incredible content. Your insight into recording techniques and effects, on top of the singing techniques, is invaluable.
I appreciate that, Krisper Kreme!
You are so honest that why I watch ya!
Thanks for the visit. Merry Christmas! 🎅⛄🎄🤶🏻
Legendary vocalist!
Absolutely!
I wish I was a great vocalist who got Ken’s attention. Extremely friendly and accurate.
Rock on, Rihsat!
😊
Great fact. Thank you 🙏
