Waldner and Huang had several exciting matches around that time. This is definitely one of them. Little at stake but bragging rights. And of course some prize money. But my guess is that once all these players had decided to accept the invitation to come to Los Angeles, that became secondary. Despite all their other engagements, they seemed to be here for the fun of it..

in first set, waldner led 17:13 and but the result was 1:4 with his service. then it was 18:17. Johnny took the advantage.

it was a repeat of olympic games of 1996.

The result was a repeat, but I find this game was contested at a much higher level as odd as it may seem considering what the Olympics represent. Waldner was sharper here. Huang also played better with more spinning. He attacked the ball more with smashes in Atlanta.

He injured his thumbs before the Olympics and couldn't train.

JO had a lot of trouble against short pips players. Huang was tough for him, Liu was pretty much unbeatable for him till 2000.
