This actually worked, I had to force myself through the pain getting the hole in but so glad that I did! It eased the pain a lot. I can now go to bed!

Dude I thought I was burning my finger but it was just the pain from the pressure
OOOOOOOOMG! This works!! I slammed my thumb in the car door ....just the corner of it but it HURT.....and the pain got worse within a short time. I found this wonderful doctor and gave it a try. Almost immediate relief. Thank you!!!!
Thank you I persevered and it was scary and it hurt a little but what a massive relief when it went through and all the blood and built up pressure released, it does work and you do feel 100 times better without the throbbing.
It worked! I used a sewing needle though…It took me a couple tries due to the fact that it’s tricky holding the needle if you are doing it by yourself, and then getting the needle heated well enough was the 2nd challenge. The trick is getting the needle super hot though!
I think a lot of people are experiencing pain because they are applying to much pressure! If the needle is red hot when you touch it to your nail, it should melt easily just like plastic, with not much pressure required at all. If you feel pain and got burned, it’s because you went too deep, probably because you were applying too much pressure with a needle that wasn’t hot enough. All you need is a very small whole, not deep at all, right through the nail for the blood to drain. Once it drains all that pressure and swelling will be relieved. I was scared at first, but it didn’t hurt me at all, if you do it correctly! MAKE THE NEEDLE EXTREMELY HOT!

Paper clip was too dull, it only burned a bigger hole on my nail. Or maybe my nails are too thick. I’d recommend using a wider sewing needle instead. It hurts less and goes in deeper more quickly. Sweet relief! Thank you for this. 🙏🏼

What if there's no pain but swelling and bruising. should I just leave it alone?

@@carlovesfam6069 no small hole go to your doctor or I went to immediate Care (after it didn't drain much) they have a tool to do this safer and professionally my thumb was broken to so that's why the pain wasn't fully relieved for me doing it myself and having it done again. It was scary so I'd still recommend medical professionals. This is a real and painless procedure hope it helps🙏

I smashed my toenail four days ago. It hurt bad and had swelling at the base of the nail. I trimmed my nail a bit just as we do regularly and the blood leaked through out of the side... Right now it feels much better. But if the air got underneath the nail, is there a risk of infection. Should I take some antibiotic beforehand? Although everything seems fine right now.
What’s happens if you make the hole but no bloods comes out ?
You might not have punctured the right spot, or that the amount of collected blood was too small.

Good question Thomas. The nail plate through which the hole is made by the tip of the paper-clip is dead compact cells that grows out. There would not be any permanent nail changes from a health care professional poking the nail plate. A growing nail plate would not have any deformities, unless the trauma that induced the bruise under the nail damaged the live part of the nail that is under the proximal skin fold.

Is 4:17 a.m. right here now and I haven't been able to sleep after I slammed my thumb by 21 p.m. Thank God I found this method; I'm trying it out now and the blood is really really coming out.

I've done this before and blood shot across the room. (Used a sowing needle.) It hurt but it was sweet sweet relief. Before I drained it it hurt with every heart beat I had.
I smashed my right thumb with my car door at about 9:30 pm today, ran inside the house submerged my hand in a bunch of ice for a while and it did the trick for a bit however the pain was unberable right about 2:00 am, so bad that it woke me up, I was on my way to the ER but I decided to do a little YT search and lo and behold I came across this incredible advice, it worked!!!! Thank you Dr Silvers, you saved my night. Most likely I would have spent that whole night at Kaiser ER for someone to have done the same procedure. God bless you doctor!!!

Smashed my finger three days ago on a car door. Tonight it's been it's biggest. I've kept it iced elevated and clean (I have a small cut) the pressure I was feeling in my thumb was too much, so glad I came across this video. It works! I heated a needle until it was super hot, i didn't apply any pressure because it just went right through my nail. Just a little pain, but it just felt like a little sting and blood came out! I got it on the third try btw, I wasn't heating my needle up enough the first two times.

Only thing I’d add is that don’t try to push it through all at once. Chip it away a little by little. Less painful…
This method is really effective. My finger smashed on a car door and it was hurting extremely. I decided to check some treatments, here I am , I found this and I am so happy now because no pain at all.

Doc, seriously, my thumbs still hurts. But the pain before this paperclip surgery was on a 9 or 10. Pain now, about a 2 or 3. Back to work. Probably keep this in my combat tool kit, along with the superglue for stitches.

It's very painful doing this, it burns to me that's pain.
Hold it in a cup of white vinegar with ice cubes in it.....why? My gramma said so!!! It relieves some ache n my nail came off quicker already healing underneath...Avoid OTC meds...they SLOW healing and .nothing stops this pain. Good luck and take pics...you WILL get better and be amazed you survived the pain!

The key is to pierce the finger at the corner not the center...I have multiple black marks from piercing at the center....I just did this at the side....needle extremely hot and what a relief.....am not a believer unless it happens to me so believe me when I tell u this doc just guaranteed me some wel deserved sleep
Plus if you are piercing one place and it ain't going tru immediately your obviously doing it wrong n it's extremely painful. When I found the spot the needle went right tru and the blood started coming out immediately

I slammed my finger on my car door today. I did not find out about this video until seven hours later and I tried this it’s not completely pain-free but it is about 70% relief.
Worked like a charm. Hurt a bit from the heat and preassure but the relief is waaay worth it.

Oh my thank you for sharing this information, we just had a finger smashed by a hammer and several hours later, the pain was growing deeper. We tried with a small paperclip 2 times but it did not penetrate enough and we were being careful. Then tried an embroidery needle and lo and behold the blood came rushing out. Dr Jack, my gratitude. I smashed my finger at the car door very hard yesterday around 10am and my finger went purple completely and the pain was unbearable. I put on ice , drank 3 analgetics during the day but nothing helped and my finger was about to burst from the blood that was collected. From the pain I couldnt sleep, so around 2am in the morning I saw this video and tried it with a hot needle and the blood started to get out . Not whole thumb was injured..it's not black. Just dark purple on bottom of thumbnail n on other side purple just looks bruised not majorly.
But there is tightness n swelling. Does it have to be black to pop?

When is it too late to poke the whole? I smashed my finger 4days ago and was told the bone was cracked and given a cheap splint. it's still swoll and hurt with what look like is blood under 80% of my nail. can I still drain it at home???

Just did this after smashing my thumb at work. Sooo painful. After a couple tries it worked. More blood than i expected but the pain is a lot more bareable. Gonna do it again in a few hours
My husband got an infection from doing this. Just a warning to keep things sterile.
My wife has the largest bulge I ever saw beneath her nail after our safe door slammed down on her finger. It was one week ago though. Pain is gone, but bulge is still there. Can we drain it still over a week after, or would the blood be all dry???
Thankyou, smashed my thumb with a log splitter, I got a needle bright red hot on the tip, tried pushing it in 2 times, but not hard enough, then a bit harder and blood came spurting out. Instant pain relief.

My 8 yr old smashed his nail today. I tried this method on him not sure if I did it right cause he was scared of it but his pain was MUCH better after the process. Not sure if I had to melt his nail? Also didn't see any blood coming out but he felt better. Thanks alot
How much pressure do you really need to apply?...I pressed hard enough where I have a little brown spot on my nail like it obviously didn't go thru. I guess I chickened out!...lol

It's 18:36 right now and earlier today I had my thumb underneath a train on the railroad track. Like every car weighing 100 tonnes passed over it, and immediately after that Godzilla body slammed my thumb into a diamond field. After that Lizzo gently sat on it and the pain was so intense I went into convulsions and the doctors said there was smoke coming out of my ears! Every heartbeat felt like John Henry the negro railroad man was swinging his 100 pound hammer directly on the nail in tune with my pumper. After doing this trick the kind doctor from california suggested I had nearly 5,000 cc blood squirt with such tremendous force some people from the next county over saw it. The relief had me weeping for days and days. Sir, I will name my firstborn in your honor.

I slammed my thumb in the car door yesterday and the pain was excruciating. I followed this with a sewing needle and kitchen gas flame- actually my dad did it, I was trying but didn’t put enough pressure due to fear. It didn’t hurt but I felt it when the needle got through. Praise God, such a relief!

Happy for you. I trapped my finger between 3 metals nearly a month now and I started to feel more pain as if I trapped it today.
When have you trapped your finger? Because it might be too late for me to try it. I'm seeing a GP tomorrow if they accept me for the same reason. I hate the pressure underneath my nail 🥺

I've just tried it. I believe i managed to make the hole but nothing came out. Maybe because it's been a long while and the blood clotted already underneath the nail.
