Most sharks do that... Great whites as well, some though need to keep swimming/moving to keep the oxygen in the water flowing thru their gills to stay alive, while others can breathe like regular fish through their mouths.

GTApirate i prefer that as opposed to being bored. Jaws 4, although bad, was made by a competent director who knew how to pace a film. Not only is Jaws 4 much more enjoyable, it is also a lot prettier to look at. Everyone always goes right to that ridiculous plot, which of course it is, but with it being the fourth entry in a series that should have never spawned sequels in the first place, what else would you expect other than a bad movie? I always thought Jaws: TR always had some underrated moments and has always been my favorite Jaws sequel, and I love all of them(even the godawful Jaws 3D).

That ship thing was actually a good great white shark trap. Once the shark got in that ship, it would be unable to make a turn (thanks to a very narrow passage), and once it hits a dead end, it'll die due to lack of oxygen. Yeah, great white sharks have to continue to swim, or it'll sufficate.
Kind of a double edged sword though; I read that sharks can squeeze through tight spaces, like the opening of that ship. Unless you find another exit, you're chum, buddy lol

It's actually a pretty good scene! If the shark's cables, rod and track were removed from the shots and the image dimmed slightly it would be even more effective. I didn't like the redone CG version because it wasn't as scary.
It should be because the shark goes directly against the Brodi family for revenge; the shark roars, and it has a psychic connection with the protagonist. There is no suspense at all. The protagonist has memories from the past that she never lived. The shark explodes upon colliding with the boat, and there are stolen scenes from the original film. Half of the movie revolves around a romance between an older couple that is not interesting. The visual effects are terrible.

Even for 80's effects, the shark itself is very unconvincing. Doesn't help the crew didn't bother with clever camera tricks, editing and on-set stuff like camouflaging the hydraulics and so forth.

There's a video on RUclips that has redone the shark effects of Jaws The Revenge, namely this entire scene!! They have a split screen between the original version and a 2018 version of the scene with updated effects! Whilst I'm not a fan of CGI, especially CGI sharks (I prefer old school practical animatronic effects!) I have to say it's very well done! However, the updated shark moves like a real Great White and the speed of this upgraded shark meant it would have caught up with Michael in seconds!! Needless to say, its worth checking out!!
