I just found it yesterday, and I'm obsessed now. I did a search today for duckpin bowling alleys and it turns out they only exist in 11 states, mostly in New England. What a shame! This looks like a blast!
I grew up in Rhode Island. I bowled at lanes in Smithfield that are gone now. I also bowled here with my friends. I've been lucky to bowl ten-pin, duckpin, and candle-pin. I found duck-pin the most challenging. I wish the sport would grow.
Shout out to Don Dove. One of the best to ever do it. For those new to duckpin, you should know he now holds the record for most tournament victories in duckpin history.
I'm just starting to get into tournament bowling and doing sanction leagues/ fun leagues to stay sharp. I'm a 124 average at the moment and improved my average by 21 pins over one year so far.
I grew up duckpin in Stratford, CT. During the 90s. That place was amazing! Vivid memories. Upstairs and downstairs with about 15 lanes on each floor. And around the parameter they had arcade games/claw machines, etc. VERY OLD SCHOOL VIBE!! From what I heard the owner died and the son never reopened it. The building is still there. Hopefully it gets reopened one day and not demolished! 🤞
I bowled candlpin back in the 1960s and '70s at Pafford's Bowling alley, (now Town Hall Lanes) in Falmouth, Ma. I bowled Duckpin back in the '60s when I traveled off Cape, but stayed in New England of course. I remember when I served in the army back in the late 1960s and mentioned candle pin bowling to someone who had never been to New England and they would look at me like I was some kind of a nut! Duckpin is a nice little game somewhere between candlepin and ten pin bowling.
I was a master bowler in the 5 pin association. The hard belly duckpin would be fun to play. I have played the soft belly duckpin in Quebec , Lots of fun.
I'm 73 and when I was 12-13 I was what was called a "pinboy". We setting the balls . Obviously before automation. There was pedal we stepped on that made the spikes come up from the floor and with pins in hand you set them on the spikes. There was a passage between the two lanes so all the pinboys had 2 lanes to take care of. This game would be good for families wirh kids as the balls are way smaller.
@@brentvance3958 Here in the Philippines, majority of Duckpin Bowling Centers still had Pinboys while some had Sherman Pinsetters. Although all of them don’t have the Pindeck spike mechanism, so you’ll expect off spot pins.

Want more Duckpin Bowling ? Come to the Philippines, a tropical asian country was perfect for Duckpin Bowling. Well due to the Tropical Heat, many Lanes are not fresh but still playable. Plus most of Duckpin Centers are Pinboys.
If I ever take a trip to the Philippines, I'll definitely try out the duckpin houses out there. I'm in Rhode Island, USA so we have 6 duckpin alleys still around. I'm not half bad but still improving.
I wish there was more duckpin bowling. Standard duckpin bowling is the closest cousin to our 5 pin game. 3 balls per frame, same balls, similar difficulty. Although there has been (very few) perfect games in 5 pin, and none in duckpin, it does indicate that it's more difficult to get strikes in duckpin, but it's also much easier to spare splits.
I heard about this when I was a kid. There is this type and rubber duckoin where the pins have a band of rubber around the fat part. The game got its name from the way the pins fly "like a spooked flock of ducks"
When I lived up in Maryland I used to bowl duckpin the only bad thing about living in Enterprise Alabama, is there is no DP lanes l love the pin action which ten pin has little of my high was 170 in the ducks and 210 in the ten pin bowling I bowled at Marlo bowling alley in Md, it is so sad to see them go to ten pin
Zoomer30 They are younger guys. We always put more on the ball, mature, and grow from it. Donnie doesn’t throw the ball like that anymore. There’s no fire. Slowing your ball down keeps pins out of the pit so your pin action stays on the deck and work for you.
I've tried all the forms of bowling. I bowled 5 pin mostly, but I also bowled tenpin, standard duckpin, Quebec rubberband duckpin, candlepin. I find standard duckpin to be most comparable to 5 pin. Love it!
John Williams These two are bad representations of what duckpin has to offer as a whole. Dig deeper next time before labeling something. They’re young guys. That should tell you all you need to know about why they’re trying to force their way to victory. Donnie’s very first ball tells you everything you need to know. There's still 5 Pin Bowling in Canada and 9 Pin Bowling in Texas and Germany. As well as another variation of Duckpin Bowling called "Rubber Duckpin Bowling" which only played in the French Canadian areas.

This just looks like a miniature version of regular bowling. I dont understand why they throw nothing but a straight ball. Why not put some curve on the ball and you should be able to make better shots.

Candlepin bowling is even stranger, especially since they leave any fallen pins on the deck until the end of the frame (up to three balls)
Duckpin bowling has more explosive speed throws than ten pin bowling. Great challenge!

No, but most duckpin bowlers are pin bowlers rather than spot bowlers, so they tend to roll the far lighter bowling ball faster.
