Might be my first DA playing sword and board. The previous games were good at making you unkillable, but it was slightly boring. This looks like a blast, literally.
Elven Champion Grey Warden Rook, male. Reasonings: Elven since we are fighting the Elven Gods. Champion since I like the tank builds most. Grey Warden since I want to be a Grey Warden again and since the Elven Gods are related to the Blight then it makes sense for a Grey Warden to lead the charge against anyone using the Blight.

Like for a Grey Warden mission then I am going to take Davrin since he is a fellow Grey Warden and will have tons of things to say. Same for any other mission for a faction. I am going to take the follower that is apart of that faction to their missions. For a default crew then probably Neve and either Lucanis or Bellara. They will work well with my Warrior build. Harding is a maybe. However, I will have her with me on any missions that deals with the Dwarves or the Inquisition. As for Taash and Emmrich, neither of the 2 appeals to me. However, they will still be with me on quests that involves their factions. This is all at least so far anyways. I will need to play the game to actually determine anything concretely.
Slayer all the way, can’t wait to cleave and smash my way through the enemy’s frontline. I especially love that none of the companions seem to be even close to that archetype(2H melee physical damage brawler). So I can fully spec into the specialization and mix and match companions as I see fit without much overlap.
I usually don't play as a warrior, but im probably playing as one on my first playthrough. I like how impactful the hits feel especially whenever rook uses the shield also its more flashy than the previous dragon age games and i like that. Also kicking enemies of cliffs and throwing your shield captain america style looks cool af 😁
Favourite build from the preview was absolutely the Reaper Warrior and it’ll be my go to at launch. Of course, I reckon I’ll be doing multiple playthroughs to try everything out.

I’m rly excited for this game. I’ve been a big fan of DA from the start, love the world, read all the books and comics etc. But one thing that I’m increasingly feeling bad about regarding veilguard is the crazy magic that non-mage classes can do. Magic isn’t something just anyone can do in DA, you have to be born with a special connection to the Fade. How come the rogue can shoot lightning bolts and the warrior can summon necrotic tornadoes? It makes no sense 😭 Like it looks so cool and fun to play with but goodness does it break the lore. I wanted to play a rogue but more and more I feel anything but mage is going to shatter my immersion in Thedas :(( Inquisition had some flashy animations that kinda looked magicky but all were easily explained as representative of some non magic effect. Rogue could make a decoy, but actually it just represented confusing the enemy. Warrior could summon a line of spectral dudes with shields, but it just represented the way his defence covered a wide area. What does it represent when the warrior in DA4 summons raining giant swords in an AoE to set his enemies on fire? I can’t justify it.
I'm so happy a new Dragon Age game is finally coming out, I've missed peak Bioware. Having said that, I really wish it wasn't hit with a massive Sims-looking aesthetic that makes it look like Fable instead of DA. I'm actively choosing to overlook at it given how superficial that is, as long as the story and companions hold up, but I wish they built off of what Inquisition did instead of attempting to relive Dragon Age 2 and make it more Mass Effect-like with the combat.
2 handed combat looks better then I thought, may have to consider warrior after all. 👀 In another video I also saw a 2h hammer strike knock an enemy into a wall, and sent another flying, looked pretty satisfying.
I’m a bit confused by the warrior. A lot of the abilities seem focused on elemental or necrotic damage. Not that I’m upset about having variety, but I hope there’s some sort of logic to it. I mean, why does a warrior have the ability to rain down fire or freeze enemies? That’s a mage lol
Can you go to trades? I'm only asking because it seems that a lot of people, some other videos don't seem to realize that traits act like abilities. And a lot of people were concerned about the fact that you only get three active abilities while other dragon age games you get substantially more.
I would be interested to see if the mage class has anything similar. Considering it seems they made it so mages can kind of zip between close range and being farther back with staff/dagger moves
I'm still waiting on an answer if we can Dual Wield Swords like Dragon Age Origins. I'll play a rogue if I have to get that. But if they can't, Warrior speaks to my heart.
Won’t be touching this game until I see much more on it… an action rpg is fine as long as the story is true quality…not enough known yet on the story line and BioWare lost my trust and faith … the old rpg glory days are long gone and in the past year games are not even a shadow of what they once were
should you put your hard earn money on Dragon Age Veilguard. NO, no at launch wait for the non IGN sites reviews o Pay Influencers with a personal agenda to make a decision. There is a lot of games coming out on October for example the Ys X Nordics etc etc…
Definitely going to try out champion first. The shield skills look really fun. Like the idea of being a warrior in the black dragons and learned how to fight mages taking inspiration from the templars.
I was going to play a Mage but the more I see about the warrior I am thinking Warrior female Warden Elf. I think Elf because they are Elven Gods we are fighting, and I am loving what I see about the warrior combat more than what I see about mage. I also of course was always going to be a Warden at first because I loved being a Warden in Origins and I feel if we are fighting blight a Warden is a great choice for that. I honestly will play every class at some point, but I definitely am leaning to warrior for first play.
This is the first Dragon Age game that I'm excited to play as a Warrior. I was thinking either Grey Warden or Mourn Watch Reaper with Emmrich and Lucanis.
I'm going into this expecting Veilguard to fail, though I know I'll personally enjoy it in spite of it getting the "modern audience" makeover. If Veilguard does well enough that Bioware survives, then I'll be pleasantly surprised and happy to know that the next mass effect is still on its way.
Normally I’d play warrior as the leader of the party/ central target and damage taker. No reason to do that in this game, companions don’t take any damage so there is no reason for a tank. And they don’t do anything other than set up detonations so best go for max damage because you’ll be doing all the work yourself.
A tank for what? The more I get used to it, the more I can't stand not having real companions in combat. it's basically more mobile game crap where you summon an npc to cast a skill or fight with you for a few seconds.

Definitely a slayer with the lords of fortune background. I want as much stagger as possible for those finishers.

I like the necrotic damage of the riper but the champion being a gray warden will be very beneficial against elven gods because of the blight

That’s my thoughts but I think if they nail the gameplay and the story we’ll forget about the art style pretty quickly.
Slayer + Lords of Fortune seems like a given for all those executions. The Reaper and Mournwatch combo you pointed out seems cool though.

Mornewatch passive is op,say you use rogue and specialize in stacking dots that's one extra dot per dot type that's a lot of damage dude.

They've been clear about what each class' weapon kits are:
Warrior: 1H + Shield/2H Weapon
Rogue: Dual Wield/Bow
Mage: Staff/Dagger + Orb
All the classes look the same, warriors look like mage skills and mage skills look like warrior melee.
The only class I consider for this game is a Pirate
