11:40 - VOLUME WARNING - I don't know why but the sound is way too loud for this clip so remember to lower your volume
Something to add: Bioware hasn't said that minor things aren't going to be referenced at all, only that there are three choices of importance that will affect the world (which is still a big bummer).

I mean, they could have at least mentioned things that are relevant to the places we will visit. For example, what happened with Dorian? Is he still the voice of the opposition in the Magisterium? Or Fenris and Isabella, who both returned to the north, at least according to Varric (which may be untrue). Is Josephine doing well, does she play a role in the politics of northern Thedas? Also, the Warden, naturally, will we finally learn their fate?
Regarding Morrigan, I suspect her having a son and having drunk from the Well of Sorrows is considered canon. I mean, it hits emotionally much more than the other options. That scene in the Fade towards the end, where Kieran says “Mother”, and then Morrigan also says “Mother” always gives me goosebumps.
And yes, I don’t expect every decision we made to have an impact in this game, but I hoped that at least things relevant to this part of the world would be addressed. I agree that it was probably easier on the writers, and they don’t need to recall all voice actors, but it feels lazy.

I'm always baffled at why people ove the Dragon Age series. I played Origins and I loved it. Then I played DA2 and got bored and put it down (I rarely put games down). I haven't played Inquisition, but I've heard very mixed things. So, when you have one exceptional game, one game that is generally thought to be pretty bad and one right in the middle, I'm not sure how that's an amazing series. Mass Effect or the Batman Arkham series are great series, imo.

    • @saadmerchant770
      @saadmerchant770 2 дня назад +3

@@JBrandonMercer123 Well, I really feel like Dragon Age stands out in terms of its characters, player choices, world building, consequences, and especially LORE.. Apart from the fact that every single character and companion is interesting and intriguing, what I absolutely love is how the random codexes you read in Origins comes back in the form of characters and events in big ways in the third game... In the final Trespasser DLC, when a huge set of all those codexes I read - all the way from game 1 - started to culminate into a gigantic epic reveal - I was freaked out with excitement and got goosebumps through and through... The fact that you can make a choice in game one where a close companion becomes a random drunk in game three or a really good king, or the fact that you can pick up the novels and read about Loghain and then actually determine whether his fate continues or ends is so damn cool, and he's just a small character - in the larger scheme of thing - that you can do that with, gives the series a brilliant continuity... On top of all this, the Dragon Age universe does political, philosophical, and religious conflict really very well, and in a way that reflects real world events... For example - the elven gods and the chantry's Maker parallel polytheistic and monotheistic religions in a very interesting way, then the whole Mage and Templar conflict reflects the Middle Eastern conflict in a thought-provoking way... I can keep going on and on... Each character that I created and played with in Dragon Age - the hero of ferelden, hawke, the inquisitor, and now Rook - all seem to stand out in such meaningfully unique ways...In fact, I have this major fantasy that one day there'll be a Dragon Age game where I can play with all my previous four characters in one party (it helps that every game has its distinct color theme - blue, red, green, purple)... I can keep going on, but for me it all started with the Battle of Ostagar where I realized that Dragon Age was going to be the Lord of the Rings game I had always hoped for...

“Our philosophy when it comes to integrating past player choices and world states is wherever possible we want to avoid contradicting what has happened before. We never want to invalidate your choices,” - John Epler, Creative Director. From the article.
    -
So, for us not to invalidate your choices, we simply won't allow you to have them imported into this game 😀🤦🏻‍♀
It's actually so stupid. Also, he said this in the article as well, “We don't want to ever imply that a decision is the wrong decision or the right decision,”.
    -
Why? I MADE that choice, so give me the damn consequences of my actions! That's what makes every playthrough unique and personal. If Zevran died in the first game, then so be it. Let me live with that choice. If Sten died and doesn't show up as the Arishok in this game, then so fucking be it. Let me live with that CHOICE. Idc if I "made a wrong choice", let me feel the weight of those choices as they play into the future of the story. 🤷🏻‍♀ Don't streamline the game and then say you want it to be a personal journey when you don't even allow players to experience the weight of their previous choices. 😴🤦🏻‍♀
    -
This the reason why DA had been so good as a story in the first place. Because even small side quests like Dagna, saving my Dalish clan in DA2 and Inquisition, helping Gamlen reunite with his daughter, etc. These things popped up again in the future games and made it feel that much better. Saying that the Southern Divine doesn't matter at all when like 70% of the known planet follows her as Andrastians is crazy as well btw. Especially because the Divine KNOWS about Solas and his plans by the end of Trespasser. 🙄And don't even get me started on the Dwarven King in Orzammar. That choice needs to be in this game if the Deep Roads and Blight are returning.

Its just awful. I never expected them to integrate that many choices personally - but i hate that for the companions of DAI, its just "who you romanced" and nothing else. Nothing about the fates of each companion and how you felt about them. (Solas especially since i know lots of people wanted to kill him) It should matter, but it doesn't. Hes going to act the same way to every inky no matter what.
And why would some inquisitors feel responsible for Solas? Whether we did or didn't- i despise being shoe horned into someone elses cannon.
And even as a Solasmancer- pretty much all three of those choices are Solas centric- our Inkies did not start and stop at his approval. Theres also no way to input hiw our Inkies felt about things to bring a more accurate picture of our Inquisitor, meaning we'll all be stuck with the same milquetoast version of them.
I thought they'd of learnt from Hawke how much we hate that sort of thing.
Im firmly of the opinion, that if you can't do a character justice, their absence is better than seeing some washed out version of themselves.

There should be a separate choice for if your relationship with Solas was good or not, because whether you promised to save him or kill him is not the end all be all of what regard you held him in. A Lavellan that romanced him and still loves him but swore to kill him anyway, is going to be treated the same as a Lavellan that hates his guts, and it's infuriating. Considering the amount of blighted themes and enemies shown so far, I would argue the Hero of Ferelden would most certainly be doing something instead of sitting on their ass. The main conflict, while set in Northen Thedas, will no doubt effect the entirety of Thedas if it isn't dealt with, so I feel this is like a "all hands on deck" type situation where anybody with any skill, especially darkspawn knowledge like the HoF would lend a helping hand someway. I mean, if Morrigan is involved and is romantically involved with the Warden, then for sure he would be there alongside Morrigan. Of course, this assumes the HoF is alive.

The only countries that aren't affected by the political choices made in the South are Tevinter and Par Vollen, because of how isolated they are. The southern Divine is the Divine for Antiva, Nevarra, Rivain, and the Anderfels. Inquisition made a big deal out of this. Potentially we have a war monger on the throne of Orlais (Gaspard) who wants to expand the empire into neighboring nations. We have story threads from previous games that directly tie into 2 of the factions in Veilguard (Zevran trying to destroy the Crows, the warden contact/Hawke disappearing int Weisshaupt, and the HoF seeking a cure to the blight). If they wanted to keep limit the necessity to bring up choices in other games, they needed to limit the scope of Veilguard to JUST Tevinter and Par Vollen.

This isn't a bummer, this is a huge flaw in a game that's supposed to be about your choices. Nevermind the fact that this means Morrigan has now been reduced to a glorified cameo with her character development leading up to the series being non-existent, because your choices are completely ignored. If you know anything about Morrigan as a character, you must know what a big deal it is for her to be involved with the Warde and actually call them "My Love" and have a freaking son! These things affect you as a person and change you drastically, we even see that in Inquisition where Morrigan is ready to give away her body and soul for her son, which she'd never do in DAO because at that point she thought power and survival to be the most important things in the world. When you erase character's past and events that happened to them, you destroy a part of that character, it's as simple as that. Not to mention all the plot threads still up in the air that are now effectively abandoned. And all of this is made worse by the fact BioWare tried to hide it all.

And hilariously, one of those choices is who the Inquisitor romanced. One of those romances is The Iron Bull, but his romance ends in one of two ways. He either betrays you in Trespasser, or he becomes tal-vashoth and stands by you. And there is NO OPTION in Veilguard to select which outcome you got! Ha ha ha! BioWare just assumes that if you romanced Bull, he is automatically tal-vashoth. I didn't see the other romance options, but I'm sure BioWare also botched the other romances that can be broken off by the romanced character. Cassandra could become Divine. Rainier could leave for the Wardens. Sera could end it with a Dalish elf who won't abandon her false gods. And I think Cullen could become a lyrium-addled bum, but I'm not certain on how that plays out if he was romanced.
Oh, and no option to select if your Inquisitor was a warrior, mage, or rogue. Ditto on the specializations like templar, rift mage, necromancer, or assassin. Which means the mage Inquisitor won't be using magic during his or her cameo, nor will the templar Inquisitor be negating any magic from any of the evanuris or Solas. Well done BioWare.
Also, BioWare is wrong about the Divine choice only affecting the South. The Southern Chantry is THE Chantry for ALL counties in Thedas except Tevinter, which has it's own. That means, the Divine of Orlais and Ferelden is also the Divine of the Anderfels, which is where Weisshaupt is. She's the Divine of Antiva, which is where Treviso is. She's the Divine of Nevarra, which is where the Grand Necropolis is. And yes, who is Divine should play out differently in regard to how each country views the Chantry. The Wardens might favor Leliana, since she favors Wardens, especially if romanced. Nevarra would favor Cassandra since she's a Pendeghast. Vivienne would not be shy about declaring an Exalted March to push the Qunari out of Antiva and possibly Rivain. Of course the Divine choice should have major impacts on the story. BioWare is just too lazy to code it.
And ironically, saying "letting the Chargers die was the wrong choice" is exactly what Veilguard just said, as I explained above. They assume you saved the Chargers if you romanced Bull. They forgot all about the choice of telling him to keep the Chargers in place even while still romancing him.
Yeah right. I don't trust anything BioWare says about the game. The choices will mean NOTHING. Like the choice between Lace or Neve. It's forced on the player, one or the other must be chosen, and that one always gets hurt no matter what. And so what if she gets hurt? I guess BioWare forgot about injury kits/potions too.

It’s unacceptable, you don’t just “wipe the slate clean” at the climax of the story. Another note, this is BioWare’s trademark system we’re talking about here, it’s not just some minor thing; it’s the one thing that makes their games unique compared to others in the same genre. It’s bad enough we’re not getting the bare minimum codex entries but it’s completely unbelievable that major story stuff will just be ignored. To not establish a canon as they claim, they will downright have to avoid mentioning any major moment from past game stories. I’d even argue they are establishing their own canon with the mere appearance of Morrigan because there’s absolutely no way that she doesn’t mention Kieran or her warden husband if they “still exist” like BioWare claims. Unless a canon is established, and I’m not just referring to character fates but also potential character evolutions, we’re not getting any cameos from 99% of characters from past games. Even though Zevran’s VO will likely have a role in the game(American inquisitor) we can’t see Zevran because he can potentially be dead. Cole can’t die but he can potentially have two completely different personalities, meaning he also can’t appear even though he should due to his relationship with solas. I could go on and on about who can’t possibly appear but you get the idea.
And for those who say that it’d be too challenging for BioWare to do their trademark system again it’s just completely wrong. From 2007-2015(8 years) BioWare developed Mass Effect 1-3, Dragon Age 1-3, alongside all of their DLCs. And you’re telling me they couldn’t do it justice in 9 years?! Gtfo.
It’s crazy to me there are hardcore DA fans like myself that are defending this. Creators I can get because they are getting paid, it’s soulless but just the way of things. BioWare is essentially rewarding you, the hardcore fan’s time and dedication to their franchise by spitting in your eyes and laughing at you. Just look at Patrick Weekes’ and Mary Kirby’s tweets; that’s what they think of those who kept their nearly deceased company/franchise alive for all these years.
Yes, I canceled my preorder, even after my countless play throughs of the series and waiting anxiously for 10 years for anything. If this game isn’t made for me then it’s made for nobody. Failguard is going to bomb harder than Kirkwall’s chantry.

I have to wonder if the people defending this even played the series, or any BioWare game for that matter. This is the core of BioWare games. Even in their MMO SWTOR there are a few choices that change things, even if they are few and far between. I always understood that because MMOs are a lot harder to do this in and most players in MMOs are playing for PVP or end game.
Choices affecting the world state and carrying over is what sets BioWare a part from every other RPG. I also find the excuse that some are using that 'well they are doing this for new players' to be complete baloney. There was a standard world state in DAI for those who had never played any of the previous games. I know this because DAI was the first game I played in the series. I then went back and played the other 2 games and used the keep to set up my world state for a replay of DAI with the choices I made after going back and playing the 2 previous games. I'm highly suspicious of those treating this like it's not a big deal when it is essentially BioWare changing their core storytelling mechanic.

    • @npc6254
      @npc6254 День назад

@@MjollTheLioness-o4y Yes, there’s really no excuse from BioWare that makes sense and it’s a much bigger deal than some are making it out to be. This system is the foundation of every one of their good games; I’d even argue it’s the foundation of their company. They’re keenly aware of the backlash this will receive, it’s why they embargoed creators from showing or talking about it; they were hoping to hide it until people bought the game but it was accidentally leaked. Even now, this information is only known to relatively few people in the hardcore community and not the general audience but once non-shill reviews start coming out, I guarantee this will be the #1 issue with the game above anything else. Casual fans who haven’t played in years are going to furious when there’s no information about their Hawke, HOF, favorite companions, or even certain affects of past games’ stories. We literally sent Hawke or a warden to weisshaupt for a future plot event and that’s going to be completely ignored. It’s the same with the well of sorrows, etc. People aren’t going to forget that stuff.

As a longtime fan of the series, this is completely unacceptable. John Epler said as a way to not invalidate everyones choices and have their choices mean more than a 'one liner', or 'cameo', they will just ... Not include any of them in this game. I had to sit back for a moment and truly wonder if they even understand their own fanbase or if this is some excuse to lazy writing.
How can you bring back Morrigan, the Inqusitior, and who knows who else, and just *NOT* give us the ability to decide what choices they made that would definitely alter their character. You're telling me they had no time to make a few conversation differences between a Morrigan who drank from the well, had a child, and has been possibly married for 20+ years at this point then over one who did none of those things? And what else are they going to vaguely walk around in dialogue from choices we've made.
You mean to tell me Morrigan will just not mention the HoF, you know, the last person in all of Thedas to defeat an archdemon and end the blight, WHILE a new blight is happening??? That, that storyline is just completely irrelevant to the game bc LoL SolAs?
And since Hawke cannot be mentioned at all. I guess every love interest from DA2 is either not in the game or just will pretend Hawke doesnt exist in their dialogue? And why are 2 of the 3 inquisitor choices from the last 20 minutes of a DLC???
If Sten is in the game he will make 0 mention of his time in origins, 0 mention of his thoughts on Kirkwall and the Arishok. There is more and more that I don't even want to think about because it will make me more upset.
One-liners and cameos are a STAPLE in Dragon Age games. Why would Bioware think we would choose NONE of choices being mentioned and our world states being non-existent over not having previous character mention something from their past.
When you tell us that our choices matter, we did not take it as your choices matter ONLY in your own mind and headcanon. I am done being excited for the game and they never should've brought back anyone except the elven Inquisitor who romanced Solas, because that is the ONLY choice in all the past 3 games that mattered apparently.

Not only that: ALLL the other things! Kieran, Alistair, Divine Vicotria, etc.
I would rather have them make the game take place in the new age, where most of the details are lost in history and the bigger decisions just being codex entries than this.
Edit: I was already having a whiplash with my expectations of DA:V, but this made it hit rock bottom. I don't love the art style they went it, it's to smooth and makes the animation look weak, but I can live with it. Also, I did not like the art style of DA Inquisition. The environments were cool, but armor and character design did not do it for me. The only armor models I found looked good were Blackwall's armor. And don't even get me started on character personality. I'm talking about you, Sera

I'm pretty disappointed in this I'll be honest. I don't care much about the larger decisions we made in the previous games - we're in a different location, largely unaffected by previous choices. Even the divine - all three options are called Divine Victoria, and they'll most likely stay in Orlais. However, I am upset that more personal decisions didn't carry through. For example, has Varric's best friend been dead for 10 years, or have they been happily retired? I think those would be two different Varrics, maybe subtly, but still different. Morrigan as well, is she a mother? Did she find true love? Or was she stabbed and almost killed by someone who had been an ally? Those would be different Morrigans. Was the Inquisitor friends with Solas, but still vowed to stop him at all costs? Or did they hate that bastard? Those are the nuances I feel loss for.
However, after introspection, I've decided that I'm still excited for the game. I know it's different for other people, but my enjoyment of the series has always been about meeting a new set of complex, compelling companions, and going on a fantasy adventure with them. The cameos were always nice because I liked checking in on old companions, but I don't require it to enjoy the game, and I have no reason at this point to believe there will be anything wrong with the self contained story of this game.
(I am a little extra sad that this game was probably our last chance to see Zevran in action again, given that the man has to be around 50 in universe at this point. However, I will simply have to cope.)

So the person who was left behind in the fade won't matter? This game was probably the best to explain their fate since the text displayed during that choice was "will LIKELY die" or something like that, should they die or depending on who you picked they survived and/or changed?

I’m having a harder and harder time justifying buying this. It’s painful to say, but a lot of what was driving my interest in the game was nostalgia. I’ve enjoyed the previous games for the most part, but there’s more and more red flags that keep popping up. I honestly might save my money for Monster Hunter Wilds.

But the cool thing about Bioware games is the fact you can shape your world through your choices. If this is the case why should I care? How can you boil down Inquisition to literally 3 choices. 1 which is a romance choice and 2 FROM THE TRESSPASER DLC!!! Come on man. Absolutely nothing from Inqusition? 2? or ORIGINS? There should be at least more then 3.

No mention of the current Divine’s policies while we visit Antiva, Nevarra, and Rivain is crazy to me. Not to mention we’ll meet members of the Inquisition who worked with the current Divine and contributed to her rise.

@@Tony-Down-Under Agreed. It obvious now that previewers weren’t allowed to talk about this (likely calling it a spoiler issue) and then dropped it in an interview hoping most people wouldn’t hear about it.

@silverscion2144 Is this even considered a "spoiler"? I don't think so. They bloody knew this would have massive blowback but because of the contracts people signed they couldn't say anything. And they talked about it in an IGN article. Not in a video. So does this mean in Mass Effect 5 all of your choices from 1-3 will be wiped out? What will be the canon for that series if so? Like God damn this is actually worse then I thought if this is what's going to happen in Mass Effect.

    • @silverscion2144

@@Tony-Down-Under I just mean that these preview agreements often have clauses about things that can’t be discussed in early reviews. They probably justified this exclusion to reviewers by calling it a spoiler, even though it’s just covering up a feature that they didn’t implement as well as previous titles.

I totally get that they're not using direct saves imports and stuff like that. I can even understand if they don't want to use the keep (though it's a bit weird that they aren't). However, why wouldn't they take this opportunity to have designed the game such that we'd get a standalone character creator AND utility to make a number of choices. It's such an incredibly easy win. Even if you are a new player, you might still really love the character generator - look at Dragon's Dogma 2 for example. It would just be such a great bundle for new and old players.
To add, I think this would make more sense if they weren't continuing the story in the world.

I get it if stuff like whether or not you gave the talking tree his seed or not in Origins doesn't get recognized but like......the fucking Well of Sorrows? whether or not Urthemiel's soul is still around? if the Well of Sorrows choice isn't recognized in this game then it will never be recognized in the future since it's likely that the Evanuris plot will be dealt with in this game unless they're gonna make Mythal the big bad of the series for DA5 for some reason
