Spellblade. Lightning is my favorite element and it also seems to me as most versatile both gameplay wise (can do both melee and ranged decently while Death Caller has channeled spec ability and ult that likely can be disrupted and Evoker relies on crowd control I suspect many major bosses would be immune to) and elements wise (can synergize with Fire and Lightning abilities, synergizes even with baseline provided abilities like Arcane Shot and -Meteor Azur- Destructive Light and can use according element against vulnerable / resistant enemies easier than 2 other specs that usually have 1 favored element).
It was also very popular in Kirkwall streets, although lacking the visual extravagance (Minrathis penchant for flair I guess). Or perhaps someone heard rumors of one Solas from using very similar magic in his time with the Inquisition.
Definitely Evoker. Create black hole and stellar dust ? I say yes. I am just disappointed that the element for Evokers is cold. I would have loved for more flexibility, like making the element adjust on the element of the staff/orb
@@repusprimus2872 It seems that combat gives a big place to elemental damages. I can even see respec'ing from one to another to better adapt to the situation, though that's probably more effort than I'd generally be willing to expend.
Personally I'm leaning towards Shadow Dragon Spellblade, since throughout the games I've been a Fereldan Grey Warden, a Fereldan-borne Champion of Kirkwall, and an Ostwick Inquisitor, all of them mages, and I like the combination of physical power mixed with magical effects, and feel that Tevinter was never really physically explored in the previous games, only talked about.
100% playing a mage and at the moment i'm leaning towards Spellblade, i love lightning affinity in every game and a spellcaster that is affective in close range and long range is right up my alley
Hopefully, there are unique weapons like how inquisition had that one staff that was just the greatsword handle, and you could choose which element was the blade
Mayb there will be an ability like spirit blade? That was a cool and powerfull swing back in inquisition! Loved that specialisation build! Going for the spellblade and Wardens!
Gonna be tough deciding between the death caller or spellblade I MIGHT end up trying to make a melee death caller work, but something tells me it’s gonna be an uphill battle And before you say, yes, I know about Reaper on warriors, but if I’m going to be in the Imperium, I’m being a mage, damnit
Shadow Dragon Evoker! I love crowd controlling enemies so my companions can pick them off. I also planned on bringing Davrin and Lucanis for my mage so this works out perfectly!
God damn! The IGN preview did NOT do the Mage justice (shocker...)! The fact that mages are such a big part of the lore is like 70% of the reason why I got into Dragon Age in the first place, and this looks amazing! Can't wait to get my hands on this game!
Originally I wanted to go for spellblade focused on frost magic, but they unfortunately chose to make specs elemtally focused instead of flexible, so likely not. Pity, I loved playing a Knight Enchanter simply because of the vibe. Not, I think I'll likely go Evoker, but I am really tempted to try Death Caller. Issue is, no heck you won't pick Mournwatch as your background if you're going Death Caller! It's the only option. I was considering playing a Veil Jumper mage, but neither the bonus for critical hits (more rogue focused imo, doubt mages can even make use of it), nor the specializations for mage are flavoured after the Veil Jumpers. That areally bums me out. I can just go Shadow Dragon for a more generic one, or Mourn Watch to go very hard into an aesthetic, but I wanted to be more focused onto magic, the fade, and elven secrets as a dalish mage... Oh well, we'll see.
Same from the backgrounds lords of fortune i like the mosf followed by veil jumpers, but i also do not want to sabotage myself with a bas passiv. I find shadow dragons just to specific background. They think that they can harness destruction in the service of creation, rather than putting in the hard work of creation in the first place. There are no shortcuts to making the world a better place. The only path to making the world better is to work towards making the world better.”
Question. Do you start the game with the orb and dagger or do you have to find it after the prologue? Would it be possible to make a necrotic spell blade build?🤔
I think that you shouldnt pick companions only cause of detonation effects, we could see in some of the official videos that is good to bring lucanis for example with duelist cause he can increase the necrotic dmg on the enemy. So maybe just one character that can detonate and other companion to further improve your "elemental" dmg could be an option too. Maybe Neve can increase your cold dmg.
Probably on harder difficulties you'll want to strategize detonation effects to be efficient but I bet on normal it won't matter THAT much. I believe there are multiple ways to tweak the difficulty settings but maybe I'm thinking of another game. I think since we have one less party companion it should be more flexible to bring who you want because the classic Warrior, Rogue, Mage party is just dull and played out at this point in RPG games. We'll find out soon enough!
So like all the previous classes, the best companions are...(antecipation) the companions that are from a diferent class (SURPRISE!) I hope there is still some reason to bring them along, because with combat being such a big focus, if they suck at fighting you will probably have to leave them at camp. That all being said, I think this is the first time in a long time that the mage class looks fun to me.
Damn, Death Caller and Evoker look badass. Think I’m leaning toward Death Caller but for factions-Shadow Dragons looks obviously best for mage … but Mourn Watch has the coolest backstory and stacking Afflictions/Status Effects sounds incredibly useful. Decisions, decisions. I’d probably run an elf for Shadow Dragons but Qunari Mourn Watch sounds super metal too, plus Death Caller with Mourn Watch matches. Sucks that party’s limited to 3 but I think I’m gonna run with Harding and Tash

Can I put points into more then one specialties? I want to have all the necro skill but I want to use blade and orb mostly and I know the spell blade has to have minor skill that boast damage for that
I'm so heartbroken that it seems impossible for games to let me be a spellblade without introducing some caveat. Here, it's the fact that I'm stuck with a dagger. And they put the melee weapon in the off-hand, just to rub it in further. I'll almost definitely be playing Mage because I love spellblade aesthetics so much, but I'll be keeping an eye on the modding scene for when they hopefully model swap the daggers with swords. Rogue has some spellblade-looking stuff, and even the Warrior could pass for a spellblade in a pinch with some of their abilities, so I guess I have some decisions to make..
