The 2000s were loaded with star safeties between Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Brian Dawkins, Bob Sanders, Sean Taylor, Adrian Wilson, Darren. Sharpe, John Lynch just to name a few. And Bob Sanders stood above all of them in 2007 when he won Defensive Player of the Year
I take nothing from Ed, and troy or the other safeties but Bob was all of them in one, he couldn't stay healthy or else he would have been the best safety ever..... Dude was a real animal!!!! And that's respect to Ed and Troy, but Bob was just different
i believe his superbowl win was the best performence by a defensive player ever. He was lights out that game i will never forget that day. top5 defensive player ever... if only he stayed healthy.
Unfortunate with all of the injuries he sustained over his career, but man when he was healthy, he'd always give 120% effort on every play he was in. Loved watching him hit and tackle.
My favorite player growing up. The way he played was insane to watch. Every time he hit someone, you questioned if either player had just had their career ended.
It's an absolute travesty that this man is not in the Colts ring of honor. Without Bob, the Colts don't win the Super Bowl... Period. Too bad he dealt with so many injuries that ultimately cut his career short, which one could argue was on a Hall of fame trajectory.
I'm not saying the Colts would have beat the Saints in the SB, but had Sanders been healthy and played, the Saints would not have put up 31 points. (Sanders was just 28 that year, only played in 3 games that season).
@@georgeworshington4120 Was Sanders Not Healthy (Not Injured) During That Pittsburgh Game in 2005? If not, if Healthy could they have won that year too?

He was a literal kamikaze. His play style was giving always a 110 percent but his small body for an NFL player meant it would not last long he was only 5' 8".
Reminds me a bit of Kenny Easley. Another really hard hitter, who could also cover extremely well. Both guys careers cut short by injury. It took Easley about 30 years to make the HOF, so maybe one day Sanders will get there.
Great article on Sanders on The Athletic today brought me here. Totally forgot about this guy and what a force he was on the field, love to watch guys like this play but its a shame the toll it takes. That's the game though...

Loved this Colts D - Sanders, Freeney, Mathis, Bethea, Brackett
The reason I wear #21
& only started watching Football in 2006
The level of play he brought is something we’ve never seen before or since. Play for play he is every bit as good as Lawrence Taylor.
Top 3 safety all time. Loved watching this guy play. Still wear his jersey.

The best colts free safety ever!!!!!💪🏾❤️
I miss Bob 😭
Hall of Fame great in my book and the only player to be defensive player of the year for the colts my colts
2006 besides the comeback in the AFC championship he was main reason they got a ring for Peyton in Indianapolis
Did you go to Auburn?

Favorite defensive player ever.
They don’t make em like that anymore! GOAT 🐐
Watching Bob play was awsome.
Iowa hawkeye legend
It’s no coincidence that the Colts run to a SB championship occurred once Sanders got healthy.

where can they find a player like that today ?

Bob Mathis and dwight was our only hope for that superbowl run everybody was rushing on us.

Erie PA
Top 5 safety all time
Big Hit Bob!
Bob Sanders would be illegal in todays league
It would have been nice if they put his stats in the description
Know the family. One of Erie, Pa finest.
PA i remember that very nice info thanks
Was the best Safety in the game when healthy
He was definitely more deserving of the Super Bowl MVP the year before than Peyton Manning.
Amazing Safety! He's lot like Polamalu, but more strength! If Freeney would've stayed healthy in '07. . .That Colts team would've been. ..wheeww
The fact this man hasn’t been inducted into the Colts Ring of honor yet is a disgrace especially when you consider Jim Harbaugh is smh
is my man's in the hall already somebody let me knoe
Yall can say what ya feel but I'm taking Bob Sanders over Reed and Polamalu!!
His play style is arguably to blame for his injuries sadly
Hof
A Ronnie lott type player when healthy
