The security doors are not for security they are bull doors as the town has bull runs twice a year.

      Hi Jay,
It seems so obvious when someone says it. We just couldn't get our heads around it, probably because our immediate local area doesn't have Bull traditions.
Thanks for watching and for your comment as always.
Much love Alison and Darren 💜🤟

A different one (than the ones I was used to since I joined) but still .. it is foreign, places I haven't been (and some I also do not feel tempted to visit 🙂).
Thanks again, next week cannot be worse.
    Keep filming!!

      Hey Towah,
We don't always enjoy the places that we visit either. 🤣 One of the places we visit next week is Alcalá del Júcar, which you will definitely want to visit. 😉
      Thanks for sticking with us.

Hi guys, did you know those security gates are to protect the doors from the bulls? 😂😉 I'd never have guessed that, and as you say, it's not in your region where you lived. I dont really know what a bull run is, not entirely sure I want to 😬
Sometimes life gets in the way of travel and content, don't worry about that, I think people are just as interested in how you live your life in a motorhome as they are about the travels and places. Running around trying to find places to print things out, then driving to whatever bank/post office etc you need, is but one of the joys 🤦‍♂️
We envy you and your shower! As we've said before, we do have one, but in reality it's not practical to use. So we do go that ickle bit longer without, however outside of campsites, service stations are surprisingly handy for it, even in the UK. Do you find you have to refill water a lot when you use your shower or is your tank substantial enough? Mind you again, that's another thing - unless youre on a campsite, water is awkward to get in the UK, which is hilarious given we must have more than Spain 🤷‍♂️ It's just not as easily set up for it here, although we did find a free proper aire in Scotland recently after we got home to the UK. Who'd have thunk it!
Very annoying when you can't film in certain sites, we've had that recently, which fine okay, it's their rules, but it does rather hamper vlog-making attempts 😂 Still, how we love Spanish prices for attractions compared to here!
Poor Bart but glad it was nothing too serious. Dogs are so resilient and don't always show pain or discomfort it seems, which can make it harder to spot things.
Safe travels both and hope you find some cool weather. Dan & Stephen xx ❤
P.S - The shot around 13.20 as you walked past someone showering on a beach was unintentionally hilarious, they looked like they were frozen to the spot, I had to question if it was a real person 😂

      Hey guys,
Nope, we had zero idea that the doors were to stop bulls. We felt really stupid afterwards as it seemed so obvious, but in our defense, our immediate region doesn't have Bull traditions and we've not seen any bull orientated fiestas, we would avoid them. It's great however that the mystery is solved.
I'm not sure Darren even thought about recording the flap to find a printer etc. I think we were both just so thrown that the tax had to be paid that day, that all thoughts of everything else went out of the window. 🤷🏼‍♀️
As for showers, it's so much easier in Spain as there are so many free motorhome areas in small villages dotted everywhere that filling up every couple of days if we're travelling isn't a problem. If we're static, we probably empty and refill every 2-3 days depending on how clean we want to be. 🤣🤣🤣 When we were in the UK and not based at my parents house, we had to go much longer between showers. 🤣🤣🪰🪰🪰
We didn't notice the person having a shower in the video. I'll have to have another look. I do hope they didn't freeze because they realised that they were on camera and weren't happy about it. 🥺 If it was the case, they didn't say anything.🤷🏼‍♀️
Thankfully Bart is now fully healed and back to being nosey into everything. This is how he manages to injure himself so often and only makes a fuss if he stands on something sharp or skins his pads on his paws drifting to a stop whilst playing fetch. Bless the little Muppet.
Anywhoozle, hope your few weeks work isn't too boring and you can get back to enjoying the countryside soon.
Much love from both of us. 😘🥰 💜🤟

@findingxanadulife I didn't know about the doors either, I just wanted to chime in with the other comments 🤪😂 It does make us laugh (in a fond way!) how you can guarantee if you have a question or conundrum in a 30 minute video, that will be what people comment on, and then people will repeat it continuously despite it already being answered 😂 I mean that in an affectionate way of course, it happens on our videos too so you find yourself acknowledging the same thing over and over 😂🙃
We do envy your water ease there! In Germany it was simple too, you did often have to pay at aires for water, but we're talking a tiny amount, same with electric, so it was always worth it.
And thank you, we are currently starting a now 6 week stint of work but I'm sure it'll be okay. Honestly? It's quite nice to sit still for a bit. There's 3 more Europe videos to come, then about 3 from the UK so we'll only miss a week maximum I think, then there'll be a massive time jump. Confusing, but no other way to do it if we want to release every Sunday.
      Take care both ❤️🤟

Haha yes, that does happen and by the time we released the video, we already knew the answer, as someone had commented on our Instagram post, but hey..? To be fair, I don't read the comments on the videos I watch and I doubt Darren does either, it takes too long. 🤣
We very rarely need electricity, but yes, also happy to pay a small amount for it.
I'm sure no-one will mind the time jump for your videos, they'll just happily watch along like we do. 🤪 We coped with it after the Portugal trip, we'll cope again.
      Much love, stay safe. 😘💜🤟

what struck me about Mascarell as you walked around was that there was little to no sign of active life, it felt soulless - no flower pots, little wall decorations, or any other sign of permanent residency - even the city hall did not have pots of flowers. I'd like to know if the covered wall chapels are for the same reason the barricades are in front of some of the doors - to protect them from modern-day invaders and destroyers, who or whatever they may be. Those little chapels are usually on full display, not hidden behind a door.

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  2 месяца назад

Yes Paulette, we felt the same. There was just that one small square that had any flowers inside. There were trees and flowering plants just outside the walls, but nothing else inside. There were about 6 people sitting at a table outside what we can only assume was the 'social centre' and a father (on his phone) sitting in the street with a couple of kids playing football, which we obviously couldn't film.
We often get a feel for a place by the locals, but even the kids (around 8-ish years old) didn't seem to want to interact when Darren stopped the ball for them, as it was about to hit him and kicked it back to them. The dad did at least tear himself away from his phone for long enough to smile and say hi.
As for the little chapels, I can only guess that the doors are to protect them from the bulls, like the big metal doors, but I'm not sure bulls can get that high. 🤔 I wondered if it was to protect them from the sun, as the back walls were painted and the plaster was peeling, but it was very unusual. Normally we would happen upon an older resident, happy to chat and we would ask them, but that didn't happen. 🤷🏼‍♀️💜🤟

@@findingxanadulife Interestingly, as you said, Google/Wiki has little to no information on this community. When searching the pictures accompanying Google Maps has no indication of any bull running to explain the door barricades, and they did not appear there pre-2019. What they do show is some sort of Medieval/Renaissance Fair happening in November with possibly jousting competitions. Even those chapelet coverings and the white plastered canopies, seem fairly new as they do not appear until after about 2019 in the pics. Other than the fair pictures, there seldom are any people seen, but I did see one house with a riot of flower pots on the walls!

I was so miffed with you guys being utterly unable to understand what the black doors were, I kinda wanted to slap ya... :D
To be fair, they´re taking their bulls seriously in that village, since most villages I know, only use portable fences the couple of times a year there´s a bull related festivity, so having fixed metal protections seems a bit too hardcoree. Heck, I don´t even recall those in Calle Estafeta, where the world famous Running of the Bulls happens...
    Best!

    • @findingxanadulife
      @findingxanadulife  3 месяца назад +1

We wanted to slap ourselves and when someone said what they were for, it was so obvious. 🤦🏼‍♀️ In our defense, in our immediate local area, Gandía and Oliva don't have bull running and we have never been to a fiesta involving Bulls, even though it is still so popular. We apologise for being so dense. 🤷🏼‍♀️💜🤟

@@findingxanadulife If you haven´t seen any of those, trust me, you haven´t missed much.
Mind you, there´s no k1ll1ng in those events, just different ways to mess with the bulls for a while. As a matter of fact, they mostly use vaquillas (small brave cows).
It comes to mind there´s an extremely popular oldish movie, called"La vaquilla, where a bunch of soldiers try to steal the vaquilla from the rival neighbouring village, during the Spanish Civil War. Don´t expect Scorsese, but it´s a much appreciated ligthweight comedy here in Spain, which should give you some Spanish historical background and a couple of laughs. You can watch for free with Am. Prime, BTW.
If you do finally watch it, I´d love to know your honest opinion about it... ;D
