Just did this on my Z400. Even as a 35 year old calm AF new rider I found the 110 degree throttle pull outrageously long. 15% shorter seems spot on. This isn't enough to make it jerky or too touchy. Stock tube is just wrong for the bike. First ride to fine tune the cable and I noticed rev matching on down shifts sooo much easier and much more comfortable not adjusting grip to get past 6k rpm.
Oh no!! You can still get it off. What I do is get a flat head screwdriver and put it in between the grips and clip-ons and circle around it to get rid of the glue.
Is there a major difference in years of the R6 throttle tubes? Why would I want the bigger ones that would require a little mini sand down over just put on and go from the older year one? Just curious I’m still new to riding so I’m probably gonna hold off on this anyway to get a little more of a feel of the bike longer.
The earlier years are a direct replacement due to only slightly being bigger in the reel. But small enough to fit in the housing with no modifications needed. The bigger one (later years R6 tubes (2008+) require the mini sanding because it’s noticeably bigger than the early R6 tubes (03-07). A bigger reel will require less manipulation of the throttle to get to full throttle. But the downside (if it is) is that it will close the throttle faster too. I personally wanted the bigger one because I want to take out as much effort possible when I need to punch it.
@@xTHEYCALLMExGx Ah ok I'll probably go with the 08+ down the line and the do the sanding at that point then if means better response, thanks man I've been watching a ton of your videos on your 400 getting inspiration on what i should do to mine as well.
I bought mine for like $20USD. The R6 grip I found on Ebay from a 2008 for like...$20USD? I can't imagine how hard it would be to find parts in the Philippines. Especially high quality brand name parts.
You can try. The OEM part that you're sanding will be more preferred and it's really not that much to take off and the housing will still be 100% functional. You're only sanding enough to make sure the tube clears the housing's inner track to prevent the throttle from sticking. But if you get an earlier R6 throttle tube. You don't have to modify anything. I got the 2008 R6 tube due to being bigger in the cam and offer more benefit (meaning less effort to go full throttle). That requires modifying. I believe the 2006-2007 is the one you don't need to modify.
Depends on where you buy it from. The grip doesn’t take much to take off. I just use my box cutter and took it off. Some places will just sell the tube. Depends on where you but it.
Thanks! I just haven't been able to find a factory part without the grip. Lots of aftermarket and extremely cheap ones on eBay that I'm sure aren't OEM but no luck on a factory part. I'll keep looking. I appreciate the reply!
The one from Motion Pro is a good aftermarket. They are a very very reputable brand. If you want to do a step up from the R6 tube, their REV3 throttle kit is a good step up.
The whole Motion Pro kit looks sweet but more than I need. Maybe if I ever build a track bike! I think I'm going to get their tube and aftermarket grips though
@@xTHEYCALLMExGx yes I liked it up! Messed up the first time I got the r6s then I order the right one the 2008 r6 and let me tell ya” my 400 ninja it’s more responsive I love it. Next thing I want to do is speed stacks any recommendations
@irvingacosta7853 I’m going for TST’s velocity stacks as they give more top end compared to the Norton Motorsports stacks which gives the 400 power across the powerband.
I found the difference profound enough if you got the right R6 tube. The stock tube was just too long. I just know when I did a pull against another 400 here in my town I got to pull away a little faster since the throw is much shorter. I will be upgrading to the Motion Pro throttle tube for maximum short throw later on lol.

Came from reddit, keep it up :))
Thank you. Might start making videos again.
I wish you could have discussed how much to shave down on the plastic
Hello bro, good contribution, did the accelerator become somewhat hard or rough after changing?
About to get mine done just waiting for it to come
Gonna make riding so much more enjoyable once you get it installed!
Would this work for the Ninja 300?
I just learned about the r6 throttle tube after i grip glued my domino grips to the oem😢😅

spray some lube in after you get the edge loose and work it around rolling the screwdriver slides off nice and easy
Might as well do that also since I got nothing else to put on my 400.
Its a worthwhile cheap mod! Very easy to do to.
Yah I had to put one of those on my R3… lot less play in the throttle
Makes so much of a difference that it adds a positive to the riding experience. That wind up to never never land is just not fun 😆

Ayy bro how much did you get ur domino grip? I cant find a real domino grip and R6 tube out here in the Philippines bro it sucks!😢

would it be possible to trim/sand the throttle tube instead of the housing? I'm a bit nervous about modifying OEM parts

Can you buy just the tube without the grip preinstalled?

Where did you order the throttle tube from?
I actually looked up the part number for a 2008 R6 throttle tube. You can also order it from Norton Motorsports.

I did this mod and the difference is minimum. It helped a little but don't expect much.

This is not a performance mod. It doesn't increase HP or change throttle mapping it only shortens the throttle pull length.
@WeaselKonig ha ha. I'm not stupid. I mean the distance of travel Is only shortened by maybe eighth of an inch.
