@@end0skeleton404 That's not ideal! This is actually pretty old Swedish! Probably around 80 years mark, most pronunciations are mostly the same, but many are changed and words in this song are different from the ones we use today!

I wonder: it is a troll or a cursed maiden?
Anyway, it sounds more like christian propaganda.
My thought is that the troll used to be a human woman who was cursed, and the only way for her to break the curse is to get a man to accept her marriage proposal. It's a catch-22, though, because what man would accept a proposal from a hideous mountain troll known for her deceitful tongue?
The song can be interpreted in any number of ways, though, of course.
As for Christian propaganda, I doubt the song was intended to be taken as such. From what I know, this is a _very_ old Swedish folktale, and whenever I read the lyrics, it seems to me that the narrative comes down on the side of the troll woman and sympathizes with her rather than with Sir Mannelig.
