There is a creator by the name of Jennifer Glasover the young lady is a vocal coach and a trained musical performer this one made her cry and that's something she never does.
This is beautifully bittersweet. It heals an American hurt that’s difficult to express. The lyrics - they’re an intimate, personal expression of a single soul. There’s just something about these men and their music that touches the spirit. Home Free, somehow, has the ability to break the rules. They can add an instrument and still feel a capella. Chris Chatham on guitar was just the right bit to add. His playing was just enough to augment, but not too much to distract. Damn, these men are good.
I agree - the subtleness of the sweet acoustic melds gently into the beautiful vocal harmonies producing a masterpiece of a song with a message the whole world needs to hear....
One of the things to remember about Chatham is that's he's not only a very talented musician, he's also an experienced acapella singer himself (back to Tim's first professional group, Blue Jupiter, 20 years ago) , and I suspect that helps with writing guitar lines that go well with voices. There are three out of fourteen tracks on the album that use instruments, and we've had the two that are just HF tracks - the other one is the collab with Texas Hill. So, not strictly speaking a pure acapella album, but there's plenty more good songs to come.
They actually asked Patreons which song title they preferred for the title track. The other option was "Save The World",. And while "Save The World" is a beautiful song and is acapella, the title came off sounding off putting for an album title. "So Long Dixie" felt better somehow. This song is beautiful, sad but hopeful and the "nomonica" lends a bit of a mournful feel to it. It brings to mind when I first moved out of my parents home and fully settled into my own life. Home was no longer where I grew up. I had grown beyond it. My parents were still my parents but I could no longer live with them as I had formed my own thinking. They and that home shaped who I am and I love those memories dearly. And I know that I can no longer go back to what it was to me as the house is now home to others and my parents are both gone. But I have my future ahead of me with my own family and home. Sad yet hopeful. Hopefully that makes sense.
This song shows once again how talented these guys are. What a fantastic song! Chris' guitar playing is great and makes the song perfect. And that Tim and Chance have great voices really doesn't need to be emphasized. Adam's restrained but wonderful no-monica and background vocals round out the whole thing. Another masterpiece from these fantastic guys!
True Mortius - the harmonic blend of vocals with the subtleness of a beautifully played acoustic guitar just melded into something truly wonderful. Where voices and instrument became one beautiful sound! The story line was masterfully crafted to let us (especially those of us from the "South") that we can no longer live in the past (nor escape it) but we can learn from the mistakes that were made and build a better way of life for all mankind.
I love Adam's no-monica. Everyone who comments (which is pretty much everyone, full stop) notes how his *timbre* replicates the sound of the instrument. But I'd like to take a moment to express my awe at his *vocal range* He's listed as a baritone. But how high were his high notes, there? And if he were singing those notes on a straight forward "ooh" vowel, we'd all be falling out of our chairs, knocked out by his riffing skill.
@@jillchamberlain6478, I completely agree. He can make the speakers rumble with his low notes and hit some very high notes with some of the sounds he makes. I think one reactor said he hit an E5 in this song, and I'm pretty sure I've heard higher sounds from him, but I'm not qualified to say if that's true.
Tim, Austin, Chris (Tim’s friend on guitar) and Adam Wakefield (Texas Hill) wrote this and they said they were listening to music when they were writing this, especially Chris’ guitar and said, yep, guitar needs to be in this song. I heard them sing this in concert and Chris came and played guitar….it was so beautiful. Love the soulful harmonica sound by Adam too. Austin played the ‘egg shaker’ during this song too. So good! Good reaction Mortius!!
A coincidence that HF and VP both released a song with an instrument within an hour of each other last Friday? Anyhow, this is a beautiful song. Full of emotions.
HF has done a great job of being very selective of when and where they use instruments. Chris wrote a beautiful accompaniment I think the song would be less with out it. Chance does a beautiful job carrying the base and then leading that verse. Adam’s harmonica, well perfection. Beautiful to hear live 😊
Another great original song! This is such a beautiful heartfelt melancholy song. Tim's lead was awesome along with all the guy's harmonies & Adam's harmonica sounds were great as usual. I don't mind having an instrument played once in awhile in a song. It was tastefully done in the background without taking over. It added a nice element. Also like the scenery in Colorado.
Beautiful❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ One of those songs whose "meaning" is open to interpretation by the listener, so there are many--a sign of a great song, accompanied by HF's masterpiece harmonies❣️
In my opinion, Chris's guitar is just a 6th beautiful instrument blending perfectly with the other 5. The arrangement, seemingly simple, is full of masterful nuances. These are talented artists. I enjoy your reactions. Thank you!
Sometimes the expression on one's face and seeing the loving, peaceful soul seen in one's eyes while listening is a reaction! Words are not always needed to have a beautiful reaction! I could see all of that in you ! ❤
as I have said in other reactors comments, this song is personally meaningful. I won't reiterate it again, but I identify with this one more than most songs. Just so beautiful and yes Mortius, those ever present and gorgeous Home Free harmonies..... mmwwaa (chef's kiss)
A song so wonderful. A masterpiece. The harmony is just always perfect at Home Free. A good choice to do it with a guitar this time because that's just part of it. Then Adam's no-monica which can be heard at exactly the right moments. Not too overwhelming. Yes, as I often say: Home Free is not only hearing the music, but also feeling it.
I love every song on their new album and you don't have to worry about not having a lot to say. We can see and share your enjoyment. In the end we are here to share your experience of hearing this song to see if it matches our own. If it's the same aspects standing out/affecting you, then that is how it is. This is such a mellow song.
A beautiful original written by Tim, Austin, Chris Chatham, and Adam Wakefield from Texas Hill. I got to see this live with Adam Wakefield on the guitar. So pretty.
I think it’s time for some reactions to Chance leads. “I Can’t Outrun You”- 5 part harmony, it’s hauntingly beautiful, and Chance directed the video. “Cover Me Up”, and let the video play out as there is a surprise. “Born in the USA”, and Chance also plays guitar. “Some Girls Do”, and “Yours”.
This song was written by Tim, Austin, Adam Wakefield (from Texas Hill) and Chris Chatham the guitarist. This such a beautiful song. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
I actually prefer the ending in the live version, where Tim doesn't sing the last "so long" but just says it instead. For me that gives it a last punchline feel at the end
This song is so beautiful, I just love the simplicity of it. And I agree with you, the harmonies are so beautiful and the lyrics are so touching too. I am glad that I am getting more into home free, I honestly wish that I would've gotten into them sooner😅 Thanks for the great reaction as always💜
This is, I believe my favorite Tim/Austin original. Together they are magic. I love both Chris's guitar and Adam's haunting harmonica. But, that having been said, it makes me wonder if this is their way of telling us they are moving on from the Country genre that has worked so well for them. We all know they can sing all genres, but I would miss their Country songs; their voices are so well suited for it. That is what made them stand out from the other acapella groups. I am a Home Fry forever, but I will miss the Country.😔
as far as the guitar is concerned, Chris helped write this and they felt the guitar was a necessary part of it by the time they finished it. The title was brought to them by Adam Wakefield and they took it as a challenge. We should be used to unexpected progressions by now, right?
Another thing I meant to say, the other times I watched this - I would say it is a Home Free trademark to concentrate on the song and the lyrics, rather than on the most elaborate harmonics. Back on the Sing-Off one of the judges commented on how their arrangement focused on the song, and I think that's been a consistent thing for them. Not that their harmonies aren't great, but they not designed to attract attention at the expense of the meaning of the song.
I got to see this performed live on their recent tour, and Tim explained how this was the first time they've "cheated" with the use of a guitar and a shaker. It's even more incredible to hear live, Home Free truly does everything and then some. If you ever have a chance to hear them perform live, I highly recommend doing so. PS - Glad to see you've fully recovered from the VoicePlay react. :)
The three main technical reactors (other than you) I can think of are Jennifer Glatzholfer, Charismatic Voice, and Peter Barber - Jennifer's the only one who's done So Long Dixie so far. Peter does the most music theory, going into arranging as well as singing, but I don't know if he'll review that.
I learned a couple of days ago that Adam has a Music Performance Degree in Trumpet. It's not the first thing that would have come to mind, but now it makes perfect sense. What do you think Mortius?
Hi my friend fantastic reaction home free are absolutely amazing and so many great songs thanks a young gentleman taking RUclips by storm is ren -hi ren this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks and it is pure genius worth a look and at the end it has a great message many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
This was written by Tim, Austin, Chris Chatham and Adam Wakefield (of Texas Hill). This is such a good song - I took it be leaving behind the Dixie of Confederate flags and all that those connotate. Chris is such a masterful guitar (and mandolin) player that his guitar - like Adam Rupp's no-monica - augment the song. Thanks for playing this & your reactions and comments.
P.S. - I don't know if you've had a chance yet to listen to Austin's original "Save the World" on that album - it has a piano in it. In another of Austin's originals "If I Met You Now" (on his channel), he plays piano in it.
In concert Tim announced that they would be cheating on this song. Then brought out the guitar. It was before the Album or song was released. Home Free has always done it there own way. and we love it.
This song evoked a strong reaction of "Who is moving out of the south? Tim? Austin? Both?" I am very curious about the genesis of this song and sentiment.
Adam Wakefield came to them and said, "I really want to write a song called 'So Long Dixie' but I can't get anyone to do it". Tim and Austin talked about it and decided that a song about growing up and leaving family behind, having to leave home to follow your dreams, and learning what to keep and what to leave behind was the way to go. They both had to leave the South to get their careers going, as did Chance. Even Rob and Adam have had to leave home for extended periods of time.
I’ve never commented on a video in my 8 years of watching RUclips videos but after watching Angelina Jordan videos I feel obligated to share her greatness with as many people as I can. Watching her videos will change your life forever. I strongly recommend watching “ I put a spell on you “ first then just enjoy the ride. The black and white version is just amazing. Oh ya, she’s 9 years old in this video.

Another one that should win a Grammy or at least be nominated and you'd never know they were freezing.

That is exactly what it is. And the harmonica just adds to the wistfulness.
"Save The World" is not a capella
@@antrazitaj5209 I don't know that I'd call it beautiful, either, with the dissonance from the keyboard. The sentiment, yes, but not the sound.
"Road sweet Road" would also have been a good album title, IMNSHO.
