  • Deckard's Voice is what you get when you take one voice from Black Corporation's 'Deckard's Dream', a well known 8-voice tribute to the legendary Yamaha CS80, made famous by Vangelis. Its name refers to Deckard, played by Harrison Ford in 'Blade Runner'. The lack of polyphony is compensated by the Eurorack ecosystem and lots of CV i/o. So I added Arbhar to my setup to layer up some 'fat pads'. However, an important part of the CS80 sound is the ring modulator. This is where Rachael comes in - and where the fun begins. I like Deckard's Voice a lot, but I absolutely love the combo.
    I decided to make this video 'part 01' because I discovered a lot of cool things after upload - as always.

    I recently bought both modules, and found myself with no time to focus on them for a few weeks. After watching this, I’m newly inspired to make some time! Great basic tips for these modules. Your channel is always outstanding, thanks a ton.

    This was wonderful and atmospheric, what a great-sounding module.
    I love the way you use Arbhar to make chords out of it. If the sample is made up of multiple notes, do you ever get grains that cut across two of the notes? Does that sound strange or does it just get mixed into the overall cloud of grains, no big deal?

    • @CinematicLaboratory
      @CinematicLaboratory  2 года назад +1

      Yes, when you sample a melody in the buffer, the grains can overlap with a semitone difference. Therefore I'd recommend to use one buffer per chord, or use pentatonic scales. Using a scale is always recommended so the notes blend well. If your melody contains e.g. an E and F, the overlap can be dissonnant. So you could pick an F one octave higher. Always sounds great!

  • @briangardner5053

    Amazing soundscaping as usual. In this video, is every melodic note first coming from Deckards Voice? Or are you occasionally adding other voices/samples. This is amazing work 🍻💖

    Wonderful pair of modules for Cinematic sound design but for myself totally impractical for Live use as to fiddly in dim lighting , I’m more into EDM club stuff but experimental when at home, plus cost of these modules but that’s just my opinion not others needs

      I stopped worrying about cost, since eurorack has become a better investment compared to stock and bitcoins. Even better, your return on investment includes incredible sonic adventures. While you're at it, don't forget to get some kind of looper.

      @@CinematicLaboratory oh me too, definitely. My hardware arc has gone from trying to replicate DAW functions and now back to thinking about what I can use to be expressive and creative in how I perform parts, like I do my classical instruments. I've also found with hardware that little of quality > lots of cheap/accessible in the long run. I can make all my music in the box, but treat hardware as instruments and not production tools and their place becomes clearer. Already have a Nebulae on looping duties which I adore, but this is the first video that made Arbhar look like a complement to it instead of a replacement.
