Hey guys! Please share any good light protein treatments you use and what protein ingredients your hair likes for protein sensitive or low porosity hair. Also mention if your hair is coarse or fine in texture and how often you use protein in your regimen! I hope this video was helpful :)
I’m protein super sensitive, I use Olaplex 3, as a protein substitute, Shampoo is acv diluted with water, conditioner, long hair don’t care, its protein and humectant free, I live in Florida, humectants make my hair swell☹️ and styler Kinky Curly Knot today leave in, first ingredient is not water so has a lil hold, just wanted to share.
My favorite light protein treatment is Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Mask. It has hydrolyzed soy protein and panthenol, but they're way down on the ingredient list. I'm not protein sensitive, but my hair doesn't need a lot of protein, so I use a light protein treatment about once a month as insurance. For some reason, my hair doesn't care for shampoos that contain too much protein.
I suspected my hair was protein sensitive a while ago, then watched your videos and confirmed it. My cleanser, conditioners and stylers all had protein in them. No wonder my hair was brittle as a broom! Thanks to you, all my products are now protein free. I've been using henna & coconut milk for years as a strengthener and it works wonders. Thanks for all your help.😊
Thank God I found your channel! I have gained so much clarity as to why my low po hair has been extremely brittle and hard no matter how much I moisturize it . After reviewing the ingredients of my products I've found that each of them have a great amount of protein. You are a life saver. Thanks again.
TheHixMixTV protein sensitivity isn’t actually the correct term and so that’s why so many people don’t understand the actual issue. The hair is made from proteins connected by disulfide bonds - which means it can’t be sensitive to protein because it is protein - what it actually is is “improper moisture balance” hair that is coarse and low porosity is already very strong so it doesn’t need added proteins which can also mean it doesn’t need any added aminos (which are the building blocks of a protein. )but it does need moisture basically protein sensitivity is is a buzz word to
@@RosieC uhm wrong. my hair is fine af. and overall thin and weak and brittle. and everytime i try protein treatment it becomes even more dry stringy . so just cuz its protein sensitive doesnt mean hair is strong.
So I’ve been wondering what’s wrong with my hair forever and I didn’t know that I had low porosity hair! I thought your hair could only be low porosity if the curl was visibly very tightly coiled. So I bought heavier products to give my hair moisture. Thank goodness for all the RUclipsrs with natural hair knowledge
Thank you so much for educating me on my hair! I appreciate you taking the time to share the information especially since the internet is saturated with content pushing the use of protein.
I noticed my low porosity coarse hair doesn't like products that have aloe in the first 3 ingredients. My hair usually feels dry. But one time i sprayed an aloe free leave in before using the products and that worked better. But i stay away from purchasing products with aloe at the top of the ingredient list. My hair doesn't like sea kelp either. I also read somewhere that panthenol sometimes acts like proteins.
Ty your one of the first people to give real advice for low porosity hair most youtubers that try giving advice for low porosity hair have high porosity and inform us to use coconut oil and products that are too heavy
Thanks so much for this...I was looking for a list of proteins while shopping for products a few days ago. Also knowing what words to look for on the labels helped me to choose the best products for my low porosity hair.
I absolutely love your channel. After I started watching youtubers with low porosity hair rather than just my hair type, my hair has been a lot better. Keep doing what you are doing!!!!
For my coarse hair, I prefer Mielle Organic Babassu oil deep conditioner for protein treatment, but only do it more than a month, as the protein ingredients they use is smaller amino acids, like glycine, alanine, serene, valine, proline, threonine, isoleucine, histidine, phenylalanine, etc, my curls more tight and defined after use. I do feel smaller protein performs better for my hair, silk protein is better as well. I feel keratin is the worst for my hair, maybe because it is too strong.
My hair is protein sensitive however it loves the Shea moisture Jamaica black castor oil shampoo and the 10 in 1 renewal masque from Shea moisture. I can also use Eco styler gel with olive oil for slick back ponytails. Other than that my hair will shrink and get very dried and tangled with protein products causing breakage. I love the Giovanni 2chic avocado and olive oil shampoo and conditioner followed by a moisturizing masque like the high porosity masque from Shea moisture. My hair is so soft after this.
This is so helpful, I surf RUclips for hours begging gurus to make protein sensitive videos! It’s so hard to find products especially when I have chemically damages high porosity hair! I didn’t even notice that eco styler has protein. Thank you for these videos! My curls are so stiff and dry and I know that this isn’t its natural state. I buy new deep conditioners weekly and none of the penetrate or moisturize my hair. Do you have a recommendation for a good deep conditioner? That’s moisturizing I’ve purchased too many disappointing products
Bianca Vazquez I tried avocado and honey underneath a heat cap for 6 hours. The best my hair has ever felt. I have got a stack of products that do not penetrate my hair, i was desperate and turned to diy. I will be experimenting with other diys cos they may be just what my hair needs.
This is where I am so not sure of how much protein I need. I have low porosity, high density and my strands are fine. The front of my hair seems limp with little definition. I was rarely using protein but just recently did a protein treatment. I also have the hardest time retaining moisture. I have 4c hair but follow you for the low porosity information. What suggestion do you have if any?
I would say that if you have fine textured hair you will need protein more often than someone with coarse hair but since you are low porosity I would stick to smaller sized proteins or products that dont have too much protein in it. Protein actually helps retain moisture and so since you said you rarely use protein and your hair feels limp with little definition and has a hard time retaining moisture I would suggest to add protein to your regimen more often.
I'll be natural for 7 years in October and I thought I've been successfully doing lighter DIY protein treatments (avocado mask with eggs and mayonnaise). I use to have really high density hair to the point that on wash day, it was a real struggle just to find my scalp. Now it's a breeze to find my scalp and my hair is so fragile that it sheds practically on contact (I'm not exaggerating, I'll just look and see a small hairball that shed in between rinsing out my pre-poo and shampoo after detangling). It's gotten so bad, that I genuinely feel nervous on wash day. I thought this was happening because I am anemic, but if my DIY treatments haven't been working because the protein molecules are too big, and I've avoided protein-rich products, it's almost as if I haven't put protein in my hair in 7 YEARS. Anyway, I'm gonna look into Aphogee or some other brand's protein treatment and see if it helps. Thanks for the helpful video!
Shea moisture transitioning cream! It has sea kelp which is protein. Also, I just washed my hair with Eden bodyworks peppermint and tea tree shampoo. My hair doesn’t feel dry right after washing, so I think it’s worked pretty well.
Nice video .. my hair can’t take any proteins. I had to throw out ALL my hair products 😩 I feel every product has proteins in it or some sort of coconut in it. I just gave up
Thank you for this video. I am protein sensitive as well due to having low porosity hair and fine hair. But every now and then I can tell I need to do a protein treatment. I usually need a treatment when my hair starts to shed a lot, is limp and just not acting right. I have been using Aphogee Curlific Texture Treatment. And I only leave it in for 3 - 5 minutes and not a minute longer. I do have to follow up with a deep moisturizing treatment.
It’s bee so amazing to find your channel as I have LP/PS hair, like you! Do you have tips for coming back from too much protein (using a new produce that shocks your hair)?
Thanks so much, this is so informative.my hair is course,I also discovered that I'm protein sensitive too,so i decided to start using protein free products (Mane Choice Shampoo,Curl Junkie Smoothing Lotion,Mielle Mongongo Oil Hydrating Conditioner, curl rehab moisturising treatment,GVP conditioning balm &Wetline Xtreme Protein Free Gel)had to import all this coz am based in Kenya, but my hair is still extremely dry, brittle and experiencing some shedding, what could be the problem?
My hair’s porosity is the lowest of the lowest, it haaates protein and heavy oils. It’s straight to wavy (depending on the section) and it’s dry dry dry. Problem is, every conditioner or leave in out here where I live has some sort of heavy oil or butter and/or protein!😤😤 I’ve been reading labels and finally found a conditioner that has lots of good in it for my type of hair (water, propylene glycol, pantenol, glycerin etc) BUUT it has hydrolized keratin!😩😩 Noticed it after I bought it... it’s the 21st ingredient on the list, but still I’m worried it will make my hair dry soon (so far it’s been good IMO, but idk if my hair is so bad I can’t even differentiate between soft and dry) My hair hates fructis, pantene and I’ve tried a shiiiiit ton of the new HE bio renew products, my hair: dryyy dry dry. And no, only the specific versions for lp hair from brands like shea moisture don’t exist here!!
@Franktastic If you don’t mind spending a lot of $$$ on some great hair products I definitely recommend Curlsmith, they are expensive but i wash every week so their products last me a good while
I have low porosity hair....but I also use a relaxer every 6 wks. Should I b using a relaxer tht doesn't have any hydrolyzed wheat protein n it? I got rid of all my products with hydrolyzed wheat protein?
Im so glad i found your videos , i have 3c/4a low porosity hair and i use eco styler gel A LOT. ive been wondering why my hair gets really brittle, dry and crunchy when it dries lmao
I don't like Eco Styler gel it makes my hair dry and I have low porosity hair. I have tried Xtreme wet line gel and that's ok and then I have also tried The Mane Choice and I believe it's called "Proceed with Caution" I've had a lot of luck with that one. It doesn't feel like anything I've ever tried before and it does not dry out or tangle my hair.
Thanks for the video! so far I don’t use any products with protein, since I’m recovering from protein overload. My hair is currently straighten rn ( not sure if that was a mistake lol) so once I do my wash n go I’ll see if my hair still needs treatments
Yup I certainly have low porosity protein sensitive hair, it explains a lot.By the way, you should give elucence moisture balancing conditioner a go, it’s been my HG for years. I’m trying to find some other conditioners to put in my rotation, will try to get the biolage. Cheers to being hair junkies
I have been using moisturising hair masks for so long that now my hair feels so dry , lifeless and breaks easily . I'm wondering if my hair needs protein now ?
My hair tolerates Amino acids and hydrolyzed silk. Every other protein gives my hair protein overload quick. My favorite deep conditioners are uncle funkys daughter and The mane choice Egyptian mask these 2 contain silk Amino acids.
Thank you so much for sharing this information! You have no idea how much you've helped. I realized lately I was experiencing a lot of shedding and it was because I was using the Shea Moisture Enhancing Smoothie which contains silk protein. I will not use that product every single day anymore.
I have medium/fine hair. It is a total mix with different textures. My hair dries quickly but I also live in a climate where the dew point is extremely low. I've read in some descriptions that low porosity hair dries very slowly that it takes a long time to dry. My hair has never taken a long time to dry even in humid climates so wondering about that. Water tends to sit on top of my hair and it takes a long time for my hair to get wet even when I had relaxed hair I could go in humid weather and my hair would not freeze it wouldn't go limp it loved him weather. Also coconut oil turns my hair very crunchy and dry so I've decided to avoid all protein what is your advice?

Fine hair is the thinnest of all hair. Take a strand of hair between your thumb and pointer finger. If you don't feel the hair, then it's fine hair. Medium you will feel between your fingers.
I have thin fine low Porosity hair. You said that I should incorporate more protein to make the hair strands stronger ? So what products do you recommend for me please ?
I actually have a video on that! I would suggest aphogee 2 min reconstructor (leave it n for at least 30 min), aphogee curlific treatment or mielle organics protein treatment
Okay thank you so much. I was watching your other videos and realized I have fine , low density and low porosity hair. So how many times would or should use those treatments?
I mostly bought hair masque that streghten & Moisturise but I still got moisture overload. I now alternate with moisture DC & aphogee 2minute or ors replenishing conditioner every other week.
I really like the aphoghee 2 min protein treatment and once in a while I will do the cherry lola treatment! I am still experimenting with protein treatments and I will do a updated video soon!!!
If you are “Protien sensitive” why are you making a video about it??? We get it. You don’t need Protien. Most all proteins are chopped extremely small as to penetrate the hair. Soy Protien is one of the better types.

Light protein is the ORS aloe conditioner...i use ampro style argan oil gel which is protein free.
I learned silk, wheat, and hydrolyzed proteins are ok for low porosity hair because they are lite proteins.
When I use silk protein or I think the other ones too, it’s so harsh on my hair
@@anapaulaovalles7748 same here..i just stay away from proteins entirely!
Thank you!!! I've been searching for this information for years :)

Kim McFadden Thats why I use cream instead. It has aqua (water) make it more moisture
If you have low porosity hair....how often should u use protein products if your hair is healthy ..and if u do what are safest to use
Your hair looks amazing tutorial plz 😍😍

I think that one has protein in it and thats why i never tried it but maybe its light ans wont make my hair feel hard! I will take a look into it!
Would you recommended the ApHogee Two Step for those with fine hair?
Thank you for this helpful video! 🙌🏾
I have fine strands 3b 3c medium porosity, protein sensitive hair. ORS hair mayonnaise is the only protein product my hair can deal with.
What protein treatment(s) do you recommend for low porosity, protein sensitive, fine hair?
Hey hydrolyzed pea protein is okay to use two times a week as shampoo????
New subbie. Your hair is gorgeous! Thanks for the tips!
Tiffany Crennel yay new subbie!! Thank you ❤️❤️
How often you use protein treatment or protein wash in your hair?? Please tell me details.
Hey iyda !
Thank you very much for all your instructive videos!
I have alopecia areata (autoimmune disease) since almost 10 years now and I also have low porosity hair but I don't really know if I'm protein sensitive ((( the fact is that when I use products with protein in it my hair breaks.... I'm so sad of my condition, it's a struggle of every day. And I have fine hair due to the disease.
Amour Bebe hi, did ur hair get better? I have the same issue with my hair.
What instrumental is that in the background? It's so chill, I have to know.
Does anyone know what certified organic coconut oil is? Is it a protein? I want to get blueberry bliss products but i see alot of their products contain certified organic coconut oil in them and i heard that coconut oil can act as a protein. I have protein sensitive hair and i want to make sure it's okay to use.
And I’ll use ORS replenishing conditioner about once every 5 or 6 weeks.
Thanks for sharing!
Can you explain how to tell what texture (fine, medium vs fine) hair you have?
Fine hair is the thinnest of all hair. Take a strand of hair
between your thumb and pointer finger. If
you don't feel the hair,
then it's fine hair. Medium you will feel between your fingers.
Great explanation! :)
I will doing a very detailed video soon on how to figure out your hair type!
Thank you for this !!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
My hair is damaged, easily breakable fine textured and low porousity type, it is totally dry i really don't know how to deal with it, any help?!
Very informative, thank you.
I mostly bought hair masque that streghten & Moisturise but I still got moisture overload.
I now alternate with moisture DC & aphogee 2minute or ors replenishing conditioner every other week.
I hear that the aphroghee 2 min is a very good light protein treatment! I will try it!
You should be incorporating protein in Low porosity hair every wash day.
You should be doing what works best for your hair 😃
What about biotin ?
Thank you for sharing this
Lovely vibe
Do you know a good Clarifying Shampoos for protein sensitive hair?
@jess c Apple cider and watt or

what do you thing about aminoacids?
Love them! Best light protein for protein sensitive hair in my opinion and for my hair :)
can you recommend any products?
I really like the aphoghee 2 min protein treatment and once in a while I will do the cherry lola treatment! I am still experimenting with protein treatments and I will do a updated video soon!!!
If you are “Protien sensitive” why are you making a video about it??? We get it. You don’t need Protien. Most all proteins are chopped extremely small as to penetrate the hair. Soy Protien is one of the better types.
