Wow. Very good. I felt the spirit. Tears started to wet my eyes at the end. Thank you for sharing the word and love of God.

Really loving the teaching. I'm preping for teaching this section on proverbs later this week. I have admiration for every church/pastor who goes through scripture verse by verse like this.
I think there are a couple of extra layers of meening. Verse 1 isn't talking about giving charity to your neighbour, it's talking about becoming a gaurentor for a loan. To put this in modern terms, even if your neighbour is a really nice guy, and asks really nicely you should not put your house up as an asset for his bussiness loan. This is because the fallout for that, if it goes wrong will be life changing for you and your family. This is really different to stories like the good samaritan- where the hero is risking some money - but not his livlihood.
In the passage you also have discussions of laziness and hardwork, as well as a trickster. This is reminiscent of chapter 4- where we were learning about how wisdom protects us from wicked people that prey on those they can trick. My suggestion would be, that a more cohesive reading is be aware that your neighbour who wants you as the gaurentor of his loan might be lazy - and unwilling to work it off himself, or might be a trickster.
In v4 -8 we have an exortation to work hard. In v4-5 this is working hard to get the neighbour to release you from the loan and v6-8 its work hard generally. Perhaps 6-11 is an exhortation that you can give to your neighbour to stop him from lazing around whilst the debt collectors close in on you; or perhaps its an exhortation for you to start doing extra work and making sure the payments get made- the text leaves this ambiguous. Why? Because once you have unwisely put yourself in this position- it will be wisdom and hard work that you need to get out - and whether that comes from your neighbour or you it needs to come to save you and your family.
