  • The hooded figure stood at the edge of the ancient archway, staring down at the sprawling castle below. The sun dipped behind the hills, casting long shadows over the land, yet the darkness that filled his heart had nothing to do with the setting sun.
This was not the world he remembered.
A century had passed since he had last walked the halls of that castle. Back then, it had been a place of light, filled with the laughter of noble lords and ladies, the smell of fresh bread from the kitchens, and the ringing of steel from the training grounds. It was his home.
But now, the castle had changed-its walls no longer white and pristine but weathered and darkened by time. A strange glow emanated from the towers, not the warm glow of torches or hearths, but something… otherworldly. The banners that once bore the emblem of his family now fluttered with the sigil of something sinister, something unnatural.
The figure clenched his fists, his memory flashing back to that fateful night. The war had ravaged the kingdom, and desperate, his father had made a pact-a promise to the shadow beings from another realm. They had offered power, power enough to save the kingdom, but it came with a price. His father hadn’t told him what that price was, but he knew now. The deal had gone wrong, horrifically wrong, and the invaders had come through-beings not of this world, not even of this time.
These intruders didn’t use magic, not in the way he had learned. Their power came from machines, advanced technologies that his people could not comprehend. They had enslaved the kingdom, rewriting the fabric of reality itself, and now ruled from the castle that was once his.
But the twist-the bitter irony that burned in his soul-was that the figure himself was one of them now. To survive, to return after a century in exile, he had to become part of the enemy. His body, once mortal, had been augmented with dark science, laced with foreign technology that coursed through his veins like a poison. He was neither man nor machine, caught between the remnants of his old life and the monstrosities that now controlled his home.
He had returned to reclaim what was his. But he knew, deep down, that there was no true redemption. Only vengeance.
The figure turned his gaze away from the castle and whispered to the wind, “I will take back what you stole, even if it means destroying the last piece of myself.”
And with that, he vanished into the shadows, a ghost from another time, ready to tear down the walls of the very place that once gave him life.
