Great honest overview - Thanks. I thought I wanted the white, but my wife told me I needed to get the black first and then the white later if I still wanted it…. smart lady.
No doubt the white dial looks more impressive in person, a black dial Pro is still the gold standard for the Speedmaster. For someone who already has a Pro and still feels a need for another chronograph, I’d look at an El Primero, be it one of the Revivals, an Originals or Shadow. They, particularly the Revivals have a strong vintage aesthetic, fabulous build - they wear great.
Exactly. All later Speedy from late 2022 or early 2023 has the adjustment clasp. Omega increased the price early 2023 by more than buying the Chronoscope clasp in addition though so nothing to lose for earlier buyers.
Yes, the earliest examples of the current version black Speedy had a slightly shorter clasp that lacked the quick adjustment. I own one of those watches. The underside of my watch case is also quite sharp when touched by fingers from certain angles, especially around the lugs. Have you noticed that on either of your Speedmasters? There was some pretty harsh criticism about it in certain RUclips videos at the time, so I wouldn't be surprised if Omega has since done something to address it.
@@JamesSnell-rc5xt No I haven't noticed any sharp edges. Is it the place where the middle of the end link touching the watch? The 3861 end link has a small lip there.
@@XiaoqiuQIU It's mainly the underside of the lugs near their outer edges. You can't really feel it when wearing the watch, but it can be noticed when handling it. My watch is a very early example, so Omega has obviously smoothed out their finishing since then. If you want to know more, search RUclips with "New Speedmaster sharp edges".
Go white if you can find one. Had mine on the wrist now for the last three months. I can tell you the look and the overhaul aesthetic of the white dial has changed the game for the Speedmaster. It's a world apart from the black dial for me. I think Omega has pulled it off so well with this watch. It's a beauty!
Another great video, keep up wit them. One note on your found feature - later iterations of 3861 Speedy had this microadjustment feature too, earlier not. At least I have it on 2023 model
I saw the white speedy, and it was just ok, nothing to go crazy about. The black one looks better. The white speedmaster needed a ceramic bezel to better complement dial
Good video, Harrison. Still haven't seen in it in real life. yet. Totally agree that HD, macro shots look different than in person. I thought Explorer looked absolutely brilliant online. However, when one of my VPs in my company bought one years I go, thought "meh". I TOTALLY did not think I would think that. Every video, every digital image, every article made the watch look awesome. That said, I bought my Grail Watch in Nov. 2020 and have been very happy with it every since. I bought an 1861 Speedy Sapphire Sandwich. I've wanted the Speedy ever since I saw a Lt. Col. buy one in an Army PX way back in Aug 1992. It was awesome then and still awesome now. My only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner. Keep up the good work, young man.
Love the footage So much had to watch the video again Great insights - I love the speedy but the white has stolen my heart Definitely going to buy at some point Keep up the awesome content
Love the white dial speedy, got my 3861 SS about a year ago, this version even though I want it now, but knowing it took me over 5 Years to get my speedy, I would choose the black dial any day of the week, for me this would be an awesome addition next to it. Omega did an amazing job at targeting this watch to current speedy owners to newbies. It is going to sell like crazy, but from what I've been following in the last 7 years. First moon watch purchase for ME, black dial for sures, black dial speedy is a first must.
I agree 100%. I’d only go 4 the black iconic speedmaster. Omega puts out what feels like thousands of versions of the speedy, and due to this the white one feels like a money grab. The point of a speedy is the iconic black design, and this white one just doesn’t have it.
This week picked up my White Dial Speedmaster from Omega Boutique. Aesthetically I think Omega did great job. Definitely looks more dressy over the Black Speedy.
Great review. Adding honest personal perspective. True that seeing first in photos, the white is more appealing. This now changed my mind where I decided to get white dial in the first instance. Need to go to store and try both!
Do not go swimming with this watch. It’s a delicate watch with curved angles you don’t want to ding. It has no flip lock clasp so it can pop off under water . It’s has pushers that can be knocked off. It is not a watch for water activities. DONT DO IT
Everyone has their own opinion. I own the white dial speedy, and though I can appreciate those who prefer the black dial version & its history, I personally prefer this one (not to mention it's versatility - the black leather strap for it that Omega should be bringing soon to their AD's looks great on it)!
I can't agree with you more. I have a 20 year old Speedmaster reduced and went to my Omega boutique with a high intention of ordering the new white Speedmaster....until I tried it on, and I was simply underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful watch, but to me it did not have that Speedmaster feeling. I couldn't quite describe how I felt but I think you summarised it extremely well.
On the fly adjustment on the clasp was added about a year ago (or mybe even more) to all Speedies, including black hesalite and sapphire, it’s not an extra feature of the white dial.
I went Speedy shopping and was surprised that the white dial didn't appeal to me at all in the steel. I think understatedness is maybe what people really want from the watch. The loud versions lack mystique. Ended up with the bog standard black hesalite, couldn't be happier.
Hi Harrison. Enjoyed the video. My 2023 black dial sapphire sandwich also has the micro-adjustment on the bracelet. I think Omega introduced it from late 2022 models onwards.
Went to try it on at a grey dealer. I have a 1967 321 and a 1969 861. I bought my 861 2900 € about 10 years ago at the same store, and they ask a hefty 10200 € for this white one fullset. I agree, you won't buy for the same reason, especially if you own a 1960s 321. And also, there is plenty of time in the future to buy one second hand at a good price, so it is not a priority for my collection. Maybe 2028 as I already have a full wishlist for 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 - including a 105.003 !
I prefer the white visually but obviously appreciate the traditional look on the black. I have held and tried on both and preferred the white. I have a seasmaster aqua terra black dial so for diversity in collection again the white is better for me. You can’t go wrong with either though!
Color choice is so personal. Liking something is fine and interesting but you have to try it on to really say yes or no. The white is quite beautiful in person. Saw one at the boutique a very clean look
Felt the exact same way about the Rolex 16570 polar. After more than a year lusting over it, I finally got to handle one in person and the second I put it on I felt nothing for it. Social media can deceive us so much by propping up hype pieces or the new shiny thing. Definitely need to see and try these then on in person!
Based on what you said, which was very well put by the way, it seems like you judged the watch based on whether or not it is a good watch compared to the black one. I can understand that approach, as most people don't have either and as they are interested in a speedy, they have to decide. For me however, these two models were never made to compete. They don't "tick the same boxes", I believe the white one must be judged by itself. I have yet to see it in person, I own the black one (previous model, with the 1861 movement), and I absolutely see myself adding this one to my collection, because I don't need to be the one that has been around for 60+ years, I just need to be a freaking good looking watch, and that it is.
Feels like the same kind of people who would only buy white dial cartier and never get their hand on a different dial color because « it’s not the original design » I understand and I can think of the designer of theses watches has a color in mind that makes the whole concept work, and might not work in another color, but we can be a bit less rigid and appreciate something different that stands out of the crowd.
Got mine today. It’s beautiful. Have the black dial Daytona (don’t want to sound asholey), but this almost wears similar. It fits smaller than the 42mm. It’s also surprisingly slim. Very happy with it, sits nice with my 2000 black dial seamaster (sword hands) and a recently purchased ultra deep 75th anniversary. Turned into an omega fan. Still relatively good value for money.
Hard to believe that anyone would see the white speedy in person and think it's worse than in pictures. The overwhelming concensus has been the exact opposite, absolutely cracking watch in person which is cool but not amazing in pictures. Enjoy your black speedy. Had one for years before going to the white.
The only reason to buy a White Speedy is to have a white dial in your collection, the Original Speedmaster will always be the original, classic and traditional model
Great video Harrison ! Loved it! I am just curious if you can advise me on the discount I could ask for from an AD for a brand new regular black dial speedmaster in today’s market.
I have the opposite opinion. I prefer the white. I tried and compared them in the flesh. I do like the black, but having borrowed a friend’s one for a week, I got bored of it towards the end. I have the dark side of the moon which is a larger watch, and prefer it to the black Moonwatch. Now I am considering selling the dark side for this white dial.
I don’t know if I will ever buy a chronograph watch cause I don’t see a need to use chronograph function. But if I change my mind I will either buy the Omega black dial moonwatch with no display case back or Breitling navitimer
Unfortunately just about no watch functions get used ever by watch owners. People who never get on a plane let alone having a licence to fly buying pilots watches, people buying dive watches with 300m water resistance because 200m isn’t enough that might at best go in a swimming pool a handful of times during its entire period of ownership, field watches being worn for country walks up a hill - it’s all nonsense. Most of this stuff is about design language. I love the look of Chronos, the additional sub dials, the additional buttons either side of the crown - it’s a design thing. I have a 3861 Sapphire, played around with the Chrono everyday for about 2 weeks and have never used it since. To me it’s just a watch, not something to take to the racetrack
I sold my hesalie Speedy. I was 100% sure it'd be a keeper, but after awhile I didn't get any joy ou of wearing it. I think when it comes down to it, I'm not a black dial guy unless it's a dress watch, and even then. This white one though, definitely buying that.
I've tested the White dial on my wrist, I was so disapointed. It is ugly White that makes you feel youbare in a surgey room at hospital... The Black is much more classy, has more contrasts and plays with light so as specially warmful and poétique way that gives you the moon vibes on your wrist. IMO
Harrison you are heading for 200K subs my friend. Amazing videos and you keep it real! The white speedy is lame and you made the right call going black IMO!
I have the black one (1861) and love it but is is also kinda boring sometimes. Exactly as you say within a bigger collection of black dialed watches. I’m gravitating towards swapping it for the white dial variant as it stands out more, has a newer/better movement and on the fly adjustment. Haven’t handled the white one yet but one doubt; I already know I don’t like the newer bracelet as much also the old one. Yes I know, taper, but I think the links are too small (have real dislike for jubilee too 😅).

Too little too late. With all the special edition and versions of the Speedmaster. A white dial is no big deal. I'm numb to anything new. I am on team black Speedy…as a happy sapphire sandwich owner.
Love the database. I'm going to nerd out on this tonight.
Love the footage
So much had to watch the video again

Original black > new white hyped as a consequence of being new.
Yup
I've never been a huge Speedy guy. However the new white model has me looking over in that direction.

Ya'll trippin. I love the white face way more in person and you forgot to mention the sexy sapphire crystal back. Great video though
I have both and the white is amazing. The matt dial and the raised markers add a dimension that the black one doesnt have.
This on the fly adjustment was added to the black Speedmaster last year as well
Well done! I have a black hesalite and interested to see the white in person, but there's no way it could take the place of the original.
How do you find your speedy wears compared to your new sub? Smaller despite the measurements?
I just bought a white Speedmaster and I absolutely love it. It is new and fresh. My 861 Hesalite went in for a full service.

I am just curious if you can advise me on the discount I could ask for from an AD for a brand new regular black dial speedmaster in today’s market.
A Speedmaster with RED Bezel, WHITE Dail, RED Speedmaster Logo and BLACK Indices. I guess is too much to ask from Omega. 😂

After the first year the Black Speedy has had the adjustable clasp included too.
Black Speedy's lume is better obviously too.
I have this watch, and I effin love it
The current Black dial has the same micro-adjustment. It's had it for over a year now.
Well there is a waiting list, co I guess it is popular. Wonder how many people buying already have a black dial speedy?
Are you still doing the omega speedmaster overview video?
It’s already available walk in in some store around US. Stop the cap
I like white dials because of my eyesight (reading glasses required).
“Worn in ‘space’”… riiiight
sould the subdials have red hands?
I like the white dial but I don’t know how well it will look on me, I think it’s too much white and I guess I’m just used to wearing dark dials
5:40 this has been on the standard speedy for a while now. How come yours doesn’t have it? Odd.
My black hesalite 3861 has the adjustable clasp too.
The bracelet adjustment is similar to my Rolex GMT bracelet adjustment.
I give it two or three years and revisit the watch...The scene could be different..
Just get both
I have the black one (1861) and love it but is is also kinda boring sometimes.
Too bad you got used to the black as the white dial is amazing
Og black and it’s not even close
Agreed
Ok, now I am bored by this white one too.
FFS Omega, just release the Alaska Project again, what's with these half bakes...
The best thing about the Speedmaster is that if you're not a fan of NASA, you won't spend a single kopeck on it.
The classic black speedy never really got my attention for some reason, even after looking at tons of photos and videos online (I am more of a seamaster type of guy). If I had unlimited fund, I would probably go with the white speedy for it's uniqueness. 7:20 My eyes were drawn to the white one the entire time
They implemented the bracelet adjustment a year ago or 2. I have it on my hesalite as well. Is it cool? Yes. Is it a must buy? No. The Hesalite's warmth is just too good against other variation. The hesalite is too beautiful in person. And the WR on the Omega chart indicates that 50 WR is safe for swimming but not submerging.
Not my cup of tea, should of been Left in space
You're mad
He is indeed.
Too little too late. With all the special edition and versions of the Speedmaster. A white dial is no big deal. I'm numb to anything new. Don't get me wrong, the white dial looks great and it's a good alternative for those people who prefer a white dial. I think what Speedy fans really want is a better water resistance, and a Hesalite/sapphire sandwich.
You will never be able to afford both
you’re literally my comfort person i love you #nkuwan !
I swear the happiness I feel when #nkuwan uploads a video is beyond!!!!
Have a Black Speedy. Have loved it for all the time I've owned it. My New White Speedy..... is absolutely stunning. We will have to agree to disagree.
Enjoy your honesty and POV.
Fair! Glad you found what worked for you!
