I don’t know how I missed this in the 80s, but what an awesome performance. Ellen’s rendition gives a very strong emotive connection to the song along with her excellent voice. I very much enjoyed the delivery with her sass and pizazz that previous singers (Yuro and Brooks) were missing. The band was awesome as well. Merci pour ton message et je te souhaite un bon début de semaine:) à très bientôt mon ami. Eric

I just came across here because I was looking for material on Meat Loaf..and found these Ellen Foley stuff..which brought back memories from college days long long time ago..here's the story: It must have been in 1980, we were college sophomores..German TV had recently come up with a new music format called "Rockpalast", which was very popular in Germany. Twice a year German public TV produced a live show all-nighter featuring a roster of international bands and artists (i.e. The Police, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Ian Hunter, The Who..just to name a few..) Actually, on one of these shows, Ellen Foley appeared as supporting act for Meat Loaf - I don't remember exactly, but from this day on, my buddy O. was completely obsessed by Ellen Foley. I found her to be very mediocre as a vocalist and a bit odd-looking...anyway..My buddy's crush on Mrs. Foley became somewhat compulsary and one day he told me, that Ellen Foley happened to have a gig in London and that he would go there and try to meet her in person... I just thought, he was kidding me and said-ok, go for it..! Two weeks later, he stopped by my place and showed me some pictures of...Ellen Foley and him ....but the obession had gone, fortunately..he said, he had felt like remote controlled....I couldn't believe it...
Love Ellen's voice. Gorgeous lady. She and Pat Benatar were my idols back in 1980. Just raw talent.
Still people don't know she did the vocals on the Bat Out Of Hell album. Amazing voice. ❤👍
what a master class version of whats the matter baby ellen was powerful
I would go so far as to say this lady is one of the best singers in the last 80 or so years. An incredible talent.
Nothing compared to Timmi Yuro !
Yes! Absolutely!!
One of the most dramatic voices for sure. By the way: was that a nip slip at 1:54 ?

What a Voice. Incredible.
She is awesome. 40 years ago. Still
simply stunning --- to watch and to listen to
If you want more, check out her 1979 album Night Out. It's a banger.
Thank you❤
She made Paradise so much better. She was excellent. What a voice. She made Meat Loaf look and sound good.
Factos
It's shocking that she didn't hit it big as a solo artist.
