Sweet 100's are the best I've ever grown, but it's almost impossible to find seeds to grow them now. Any idea why that is? I don't get any of what you said about the skins. The Sweet 100's I've grown have delicate skins and yield quite readily to the bite. That's more likely to be why some gardeners find that they split easily. But I've had few problems with them splitting. I harvest them just a tad early, but they still ripen beautifully. I love their delicate acidic bite that fades to an exquisitely sweet finish.
if you like red cherry tomatoes i think this is one of the best. never tried the sweet 1,000 or sweet 1,000,000 so cant compare to them. i eat the skins no problem. they do split in the rain like sun gold. they are a little less sweet and tart than sun gold but with more tomato flavor. ive grown this one for years. ive made sun dried tomatoes with them. thats my favorite way to preserve them. ive grown 3 other cherry tomatoes with more sugar. if there isnt a lot of acid in these sweet ones they dont do it for me.
I don't know what you have there but it isn't a sweet 100, Sweet 100 are F1(as are super sweet 100 and sweet million) and they generally don't have tough skins, but they are a bit crack prone. Real F1 Sweet 100s are much more productive. The super-sweet and million have improved disease resistance, The million is more crack resistant but that gives it tough skins. I prefer the 100s because cracking isn't a big problem in my area. Sweet apertif is pretty good as an open polinated variety with a similar fruit type, but lower yields than a supersweet 100 (I haven't found original sweet100 for a few years so haven't grown them side by side.)
@@HeirloomReviews Sorry, I don't understand what ''open pollinated'' means, sorry this is my third year planting tomatoes. Thanks for you feedback and great video.
The Sweet 100 cherry tomato is a hybrid. There is a variety that is de-hybridized from the Sweet 100 called Peacevine that is open pollinated (i.e., it can be treated as an heirloom).
I grow the Super Sweet 100 tomatoes. I regularly have clusters (racks) of 30-40 tomatoes .

gotta keep the pH around 7.0 to get sweeter tomatoes. i find when the pH goes to much lower then 6.8 the tomatoes get a much stronger tangy kick.

So you save seed from the best plant every year and it acclimatises to the environment over the years ? Please explain so i can start doing it thanks
yes its also good to stratify the seeds as well
Great video!
thanks for watching : )
Good review, but I thought this was a hybrid and you've done okay with the saved seeds?
90 % of the tomatoes are hybrids at some point this is a stabilized variety
it's all true...will sell well..
Thank you my friend for watching and stopping by! : )
Now that's a tiny tomato! 🍅
thanks for watching : )
Are Sweet 100 Tomato Heirlooms or Hybrid ????
i believe its open pollinated now so its stable

That one looks like cherry
Perhaps yours have evolved away from the sweet 100, since you save seeds and regrow them. The tomato size looks a bit smaller than the original.
Its possible an i may buy new seed in the future an see if theirs a difference!
These are hybrids so the f2 seed will be different from the f1
Mine wasn't sweet at all!
