The member that you pointed out during the hook is Lisa (Lalisa Manobal). She's the main dancer and the lead rapper of BLACKPINK. She also broke Taylor Swift's RUclips record for views during the first 24 hours for her solo debut video called "LALISA."
Regarding your question about whether they write their own lyrics, they are part of the writing process, but they rarely get composer or songwriter credit. Jennie and Jisoo (the first two vocalists during How You Like That) received songwriting credit for "Lovesick Girls." Jisoo wrote Korean lyrics for her cover of "Habits" by Tove Lo. Jennie wrote her rap verse for "SOLO (Remix)." Rosé (the vocalist before the hook) has writing credit for her solo songs "Gone" and "On The Ground." Lisa received composer and lyricist credit for the DJ Snake song "SG" featuring Ozuna, Megan Thee Stallion and Lisa.

I think they're more involved than we know. Presumably YG claims the credits for themselves because of the royalties. YG itself also has high costs for its artists, dancers, physiotherapists, choreographers, other employees and the MV themselves are also very expensive

    • @gnomie9
      @gnomie9 2 года назад +6

@@cheekygizmo4045 YG does have a lot of revenue streams from Blackpink including merch, all the online platforms they have, the album sales, the concert tickets, group endorsements etc not to mention the management fee thay get from all of the individual Pinks projects/activities like endorsements etc. Plus they get all the investors in because of Blackpink like recently. I don't think it is because of royalties as G-Dragon that is also under YG gets royalties. Maybe in this album there would be a song written by one or all of them.
But there is one story that when they were trainees, Jennie had a notebook full of songs she wrote and it was confiscated. I can't recall the source for this so I may be wrong.

I would suggest a beginners guide at this point to learn who the girls are, so going forward, you know which girl is which. nothing worst than calling your bias the wrong name, or getting bias wrecked before you even know who your bias is. lol just stay OT4, which means you stan all 4 girls but nothing wrong with focusing on just one.
"Ultimate Guide to BlackPink 2022" is the current the best
then "The Revolution, A BlackPink story" is an all time favorite
so many guides, and all fun to watch. just pick one or two or all of them lol
Netflix has the documentary, Light up the Sky which is YG produced so it has most of the unpublished clips never seen before, well we all seen them now after this was released back in 2020.
Rose' did 2 solo projects, On The Ground, and Gone. but if you still haven't got enough, she has 4 more english covers on your RUclips page, the link is in the BlackPink page. and then she did a couple of TV singing shows which showcase her singing style, "Sea of Hope" RUclips this and enjoy.

4 members with different roles, backgrounds, and talents
Jennie - Girl with the white and black hair in this video: Role = Main Rapper, Lead Vocalist
Lisa - Girl with the bangs and rap verse in this video that you really like: Role = Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Sub-Vocalist, Maknae (which means "youngest" in Korean)
Rosé (pronounced "Row-Zay") - Girl with the silver hair and the black dress/wings scene: Role = Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer
Jisoo (pronounced "Jee-Sue") - Girl with the long brown hair in the giant red dress/fire scene: Role = Lead Vocalist, Oldest member, and Visual (who Koreans think is the prettiest by Korean beauty standards)
"Main" role means that they're the "best" or "highest" in that category. Followed by "lead" or "sub". Because in Kpop, sometimes there are groups as big as 13 people. I'm not even kidding. Search the Kpop boy group "Seventeen" who have 13 members. So to distinguish who has what role or who usually gets more lines or spotlight we have these main, lead, and sub terms.
    Main vocalist > Lead Vocalist > Sub-vocalist > Vocalist
    Main rapper > Lead Rapper > Sub-rapper > Rapper
Jennie is considered by many in the Kpop industry, and the world in general to be an "Ace" because she can spit absolute bars, but also sing insanely well. But really, all the members are talented. Even though Jisoo mainly sings, she has actually rapped on a few of their songs. Rosé could probably rap if she wanted to, but she really only trained to be a singer, and is even known as the "golden" voice of Korea. Lisa is insanely talented for her fire bars, INSANE dancing skills, (she's considered one of the best dancers in all of kpop, can learn a choreography after having seen it only once, and has even said that she would choose dancing over rapping if she could only choose one to do), AND she can sing pretty well. Not only that, but all of the girls know at least 3 languages very well. Jennie is Korean, studied in New Zealand for 5 years and is fluent in English, and is Fluent in Japanese; Lisa is actually from Thailand and became the first non Korean Kpop idol under their company called YG Entertainment, so she's fluent in Thai, studied and learned Korean, Japanese, knows english from her dad, AND knows basic chinese as well; Rosé is also Korean, but she was born in New Zealand, and was raised most of her life in Australia, so she's actually more fluent in English than Korean, but she also knows Japanese as well. She has a wonderful Aussie accent and even has released her first 2 solo songs completely in english. Jisoo is fully korean and was born and raised there, but she's also fluent in Japanese, knows basic chinese, and although she doesn't speak it very well, she can basically understand a lot of english. There's so much more information about these girls that I hope you find out because on top of them being insanely talented and absolutely gorgeous human beings, they're also very sweet, kind, fun, and genuine human beings.
Not to mention, in most Kpop groups there is usually a "leader" who looks after the members, mainly speaks in interviews, and makes sure things so smoothly, but Blackpink doesn't have an official member because they all treat each other equally and give each other their own chances to have the spotlight and speak when they want. Fans think that Jisoo is the un-official leader because she can talk a lot in Korean and is the oldest, but for english interviews it's usually Rosé, Jennie, and sometimes Lisa who take over since they're more fluent in English

As a videographer I pay attention to equipment. In the behind the scenes of the "Making Of" their videos, you can see snippets of what they use. They run a minimum 3 Arri Alexa's one on a scorpion boom, one on a track, one handheld. The cheapest mini body starts at $36K, that is not counting monitor, lenses, external recorders, filters, follow focus, and accessories. Just for reference, Bladerunner 2049 was shot with this camera. All their sets are hand made, and besides their first MV (Whistle) and their PUBG collab, they use zero CGI. The props and fire are actually there. The production is run by Teddy Park and has been from the inception of Blackpink. He is pretty much the Steven Speilberg / George Lucas to Blackpink.
For some videos you have not reacted to yet, try their cover of SURE THING (by Miguel) - you can hear their un-processed voices in that. Also the Sea of Hope series with Rosé (Vocal Lead), will give you a sense of her dynamic voice range, again, unprocessed.

Great reaction. One of the things that Western reactors often overlook is the significant depth and symbolism that has been woven into this MV. You should view the RUclips Video "British Priest Reacts to How You Like That" where a Cambridge University (yep, the one in England) graduate in Greek Classism goes scene by scene explaining the symbolism, basically having to do with female empowerment and overcoming male subjugation and oppression. Each member is a different Greek Goddess and daughter of Zeus that overcame horrible trials and tribulations. For example, when Rose is being lowered on a bed of flowers she is channeling Persephone, who was kidnapped while picking flowers and dragged to hell and forced to marry Hades. Near the end of the MV Rose is depicted in front of the wings statute (actually Nike, the statute of Triumph) singing "you should have killed me when you had the chance" because now she has become a powerful winged avenger. Her 3 other members are also posed in front of the Nike statute, showing how they have transformed from powerless victims at the beginning of the MV into powerful avengers, the Erinyes also known as the Furies, female chthonic deities of vengeance in ancient Greek religion and mythology. There are at least 4 other RUclips videos going in depth explaining the symbolism in this video. Once you get to Kill This Love go view "British Priest Reacts to Kill This Love" where they discuss how Freudian psychology is being depicted and reflected in the struggles between the various sides of each member's psyche (Id, Ego, and SuperEgo) in the context of a toxic love affair. At least these 2 MV's are not just pretty girls surrounded by pretty scenes and cool beats. BP is always messaging in their MVs.

BlackPink is responsible for a lot of people discovering K-pop in general (myself included) and I love how seriously they take all of these art expressions. I became a BlackPink fan during their Kill This Love era, and I’m genuinely amazed at how excited I feel when they release new music. It still catches me off guard when I hear their music playing in department stores and I’m so proud of what they’ve accomplished over the last several years.
My other favorite group is PIXY, which is a dark-fantasy concept girl group with a menacing disco-funk synth-wave and hip-hop inspired sound, and uses their music as an unfolding episodic narrative. As a former professional dancer, they have some of the most interesting choreography that I’ve seen (it’s less commercial and more contemporary, with a concert dance aesthetic). I think that they are heavily under appreciated but I think worth checking out if you are going to expand into other genres within the K-pop scene. Wings, Addicted, and Bewitched Eng Ver MVs are great songs to start with.
Appreciate your reactions and enjoy falling down the K-pop hole!

Do they write their own songs?
No, they have songwriters, producers, a big production team as evident from their work. However, BLACKPINK are involved in the production from the beginning and say that they would hate to get fabricated songs seved to them just like that. They take part in shaping the song by sharing their opinions in a team, giving suggestions etc. from the early stage of creating the song. They have a close bond with their producer Teddy (watch the documentary after you watched "unhelpful" guide videos). They give the song the final shape by interpreting it in their own way. In terms of singing technique each has her own style.

One of the most successful video producers in K-Pop are called Zany Bros. Although they haven't done any Blackpink mv's they are part and parcel of what makes K-Pop mv's so outstanding. They launched their own record label have as of yet only signed one artist, a soloist called Alexa. Check out her mv's, starting with her debut Bomb.

I’m with you, I grew up with Spice girls, TLC, Destinys child, etc. the 1st time I heard these girls, back in 2016, I was hooked. They are amazing human beings as well. They donate so much to charities, it’s crazy. They are very humble girls, that are honestly reaching groups like Spice Girls, & Destinys child. Beyoncé is a fan of theirs, so she sees the potential in them.
Watch their documentary on Netflix. It gives you a peek, of who they are.

BP DOESN’T DO GREEN SCREEN🙅🏻‍♀️. Every set, fire, explosions, are ALL REAL💣💥🔥. They have ran in front of burning cars, stood in front of explosions, stood in the middle of burning bridges. These girls look small, & fragile, but they are all BADASS WOMEN.

Thanks so much for your reaction!! So glad you've found Blackpink.
Just FYI btw - the rapper you noted in Pink Venom for their enunciation was Jennie. Lisa is the one rapping in this video, and she has been the one rapping more lately. They both rap, and are awesome! Jennie rapped more in their earlier songs, which you should check out. Thought I should clarify as sometimes people confuse the two. ;)

I said this in your last BlackPink reaction. They are good. I wish their company would let them release more songs at a faster pace. I enjoy their song "DuDu-DuDu-Du" (or however it's spelled)
Also....Recommendations? I have a short list of other bands & two songs each. I hope you try listening to them.
Stray Kids : "God's Menu" and "Maniac"
Loona : "Butterfly" and "Paint The Town"
Dreamcatcher : "BEcause" (yes. It is spelled that way) and "Maison"
Rolling Quartz : "Delight" and "Azalea"
Ateez : "Deja Vu" and "Wonderland"
One Ok Rock : "Renegades" and "We Are"
    Mamamoo : "Gogobebe" and "Egotistic"
