  • This year I'm embarking on a more focused campaign to improve my skill behind the drum set. The very best feedback you can get is from video/audio of your performance. Video exposes all of the imperfections and weaknesses in your playing. This year I'm going to record at least 26 videos (1 every 2 weeks) of myself playing different songs. This is intended for me (and my drum teacher) to critique and address correcting my deficiencies. Hopefully we'll see a marked improvement in my playing as the year and videos progress.
The songs will be comprised mostly of my favorite music but I will make an attempt to choose tracks that either have some interesting drum parts or challenge me in an area where my skill is weak.
I chose this song to start because of the linear drum beat at the beginning of the song. I've always had an affinity for linear drum grooves and this is an excellent example of an effective use of one in a song.
Absolutely no edits have been made to the performance in post production. I'm leaving them as they are, warts and all since this is an exercise to improve my playing.
All recording and EQ'ing done by me. Video recorded with a GoPro Hero4 and audio with a Roland Studio 16. Post production EQ'ing performed in Logic Pro X utilizing Steven Slate audio plug-ins. No samples used. You are hearing the actual drums.
