I think the title is a little misleading. The 500gb nvidia shield comes with a rechargeable remote. The Shield can also be used as a Samsung Smartthings hub or even a Plex server. And the USB ports allow you to connect any wireless keyboard and mouse combo you want or add multiple terabytes of storage. And on top of all of that it's a gaming console. I personally dont think the Apple TV is anywhere close to the Shield in capabilities but I can understand how you might prefer the interface of the Apple TV.
techfreshness hmm one shield outputting video and audio across the house ? Not sure if that's possible. I have two shields in my setup instead. Great video. For me the ability to use the shield as a Plex server is the killer feature. You mentioned the shield is Atmos compatible.. I'm not sure this is true. Certainly not for me anyway. It's a big downside. The Xbox one and Apple TV are I think.
@@RobertFitzgerald85 thanks rob, what i meant was like if you had multiple shields hooked up around the house, if they could sync up audio.as far as the atmos, yeh maybe i wasn't clear enough, i think you can get atmos with amazon video and in plex streams and maybe other certain apps, my mistake on that. forums.plex.tv/t/nvidia-shield-tv-and-dolby-atmos-compatibility-via-plex-app/174214
What about the Apple TV 4k 2021? one thing I love about Shield is the backlit remote. I use it constantly since I watch video in dark rooms. Up scaling is also pretty important to me since my media library has older content in 480p and even lower res!
Shield simply offers more. It's more than just a box to watch Netflix. My entire home entertainment system is controlled by the Shield. I can remote launch my desktop and use my PC on my TV with a wireless mouse and keyboard. I can play games at max setting on my PC and stream them to my 65" 4K TV or I could play games over Geforce Now and it's a Google assistant.
Brian Healy I can play Geforce games on my Apple TV as well. My MacBook Pro can connect to my Apple TV as well. I can screen mirror my phone as well. Airplay. Retro gaming. Everything basically the Shield can do. Plus the specs in the ATV 4K except external memory.
@@jonkendrick9449 can the apple tv emulate games?. Does it have an extensive library of games and apps as well exclusives titles that shield can offer?
I run two Shields and enjoy the versatility it has. Apple will have little to none. I can stream my PC games to the Shield as well as use GeForce and Android. With Apple, you are stuck with their eco system. I want to own a product and not have it own me.
I own 2 shields and 2 Apple TV 4K ‘s. The shield is the fastest system, but does NOT support Dolby vision. This is very important as an OLED owner as it’s the best HDR format currently. I don’t think he mentioned Dolby Vision in this review.
You can get those screen savers on shield through kodi. It's called areial you can install in kodi and it looks exactly like Apple TV screen saver in 4k
Hey there. Just wanted you to be aware of the reason Shield doesn't put the power "brick" as you called it inside the box. Are you not aware how much heat those things generate? When you have to down convert 120V A/C to 12 or 5V DC, a LOT of heat is generated. Why would you put that heat inside a box where you have to add more fans to blow it out when you could separate them?
@@techfreshness I am not arguing that it can't be done. My point is that when making a design decision where on the one hand you put the power supply inside the box that converts 120V to 12V and generates more heat in a small space or on the other hand you put it outside the box so you don't have to provide extra cooling with active or over the top passive designs, it is not a bad idea to use an external power brick and therefore should not be counted against the rating of a product.
@@electricalcosmos2662 fair enough, i guess i just prefer the more minimal solution, what do i care if it takes more engineering ha. of course yeah maybe it adds to the cost, but worth it to me. i get what you are saying though
Can the Nvidia support an external HD to play movies photos exc.? I have like 10TB of media on external HD and my western Digital seems out dated obsolete basically .
techfreshness, i have some mkv shows and movies on my computer, i know that by nvidia i can put in an external hd and plug in usb, but on apple tv can i play them? since there is no usb input?
I've tried all brands. I have to say Nvidia Shield needs a bigger push cause it blows any streamer away in the market right now. It's like a Streamer, Xbox, Ps4, Pc. The Deathstar and Spaceball 1 all in 1 device.
Wow, I feel like I just watched a "alternative facts" tech video. There are some things presented in this video that I can't disagree with such as the consistency in function between apps on Shield ATV. But there are other things about the Nvidia Shield ATV that are either totally missed or glossed over. Come on dude, it takes all of 5 seconds to do a Google search to learn Nvidia has offered a 500GB Shield SKU since the device debuted. You uplift Apple TV for something as trivial as fly by screen savers? Really? Apple TV UI sucks like a day one basic intern designed it. There's nothing positive about having no option to customize your content. You also never once mentioned that the Shield has Chromecast built in, meaning users can use their phone or tablet to stream content directly to the Shield Android TV and use those same mobile devices to control the content instead of the Nvidia remote. Shield supports GeForce which allows PC games to be streamed to the device, but it can also stream games from the user's PC to the Shield via Steam similar to how Steam-Link works. Shield offers Android games, console games, PC games via GeForce streaming and PC games streamed from a user's PC to the unit, THEN there's emulation. The USB ports on the Shield aren't just for expandable storage either. Android has supported USB-Host since Android 3.x Honeycomb allowing the use of keyboards, mice, controllers etc natively on Android devices. Shield also has bluetooth support for those that want to go wireless with other devices. Shield offers more and is better value for the money and you proved that without even knowing all that Shield offers. This video is a good example of why so many Shield/Android/Anything But Apple users get annoyed as hell with people that do uninformed comparison videos. The Apple Distortion Field is real and it's frightening like some kind of skunk Meth laced with Fentanyl turning people into mindless drones that can't accept anything that goes against their beloved drug.
i would like to try this skunk meth fentanyl you speak of. jk you make good points for sure. i did mention about the 500gb offer though, and i actually use the screensavers a lot so its a big deal to me. i must say though people have told me that this same screensaver is available as an app that can be used as the default on a shield so theres that (although i do wonder if it has all the same ones because the pc version of it does not.) chromecast built in is cool, but screen mirroring is available on both devices so i didnt' think worht mentioning, same with device remotes. the geforce gaming is a great option, for gaming there is just no comparison, but i did mention that including emulation, although i think the geforce streaming ability is probably a little nitch. its like why not just play on your pc? would seem wierd to adapt a game you play on pc to all the sudden using a console controller, or trying to setup kb/mouse on the couch. i dont' disagree though, the shield is a better device and value overall hands down. although i enjoy my apple tv. if i didn't already use them throughout the house i woudl change to all shields, but its kinda pricey so i'm stuck with second best for now.
I have 2 A4Ks and 2 NTVs - I am by no means an Apple fanboy but of late both shield boxes have been a PITA especially with Plex and Emby. Sure gaming is fine but the constant buffering on the NTVs and a host of issues has driven me nuts. The A4K boxes on the otheer hand are rock solid.
So I can voice control Prime and Alexa with this or why can I forget my fire tv? Btw entering passwords via internet voice recognition for the win...omg.
Regardless of whether the keyboards are consistent or inconsistent, it still sucks typing in stuff with a "TV" style remote. You can buy a wifi or Bluetooth controller that has a full keyboard. Also, there is an android tv app available for android AND ios. Which will turn your phone/tablet into a controller and then you can type using your phone/tablets touch keyboard.
Your lightning cable actually lights up or looked like it did, that come with the Apple TV or is that third-party ? As far as I’m concerned what one you should buy depends on how much you like Netflix and if you wanna watch black mirror bandersnatch. Because it don’t work on Apple TV and I’ve got the latest greatest one and I am pissed
hey jarry, yep that is a cable from monoprice, really nice. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12868&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmafhBRDUARIsACOKERN2mNWaPEtdcLk_-fDAgK0IU1HT_dKhuzeTI2rvapLbCcSPfAZDVRAaAvpkEALw_wcB and dang, i didnt' realize about that bandersnatch not working, i was just about to watch that a little later too! lame
The ap functions on the Nvidia when backing out are the same as with my LG remote which allows you to logoff. You don't have to exit but it does help clear the cache I believe.
Glad to see other people like to use the Bloomberg app. Its cool that they don’t lock you into some expensive cable package like the rest for your business news.
One big test would be if the 4K AppleTV can play 4K HDR media locally. The ShieldTV easily supports video streaming and screen mirroring from both Apple, Android devices and PCs (using Chrome) to the ShieldTV. I fon’t even bother with on-screen keyboards, I use bluetooth, USB keyboards or the ShieldTV remote app.The 2015 remotes are rechargeble, the newer ones use button batteries, I like the rechargeble ones better since my devices that use button batteries are all different sizes, but when the battery finally gives out its either try to fix or buy a new remote. The Apple Aerial Screensaver has been available for AndroidTV for at least 3yrs now and is one of the first apps I install on any ShieldTV I setupsnd there’s no shortage of other cool screensavers.
yeah man thanks for the comment, the shield is definitely the superior device. i didn't know about the screensaver being available until some other comments as well, thats a huge plus! although i wonder if its updated as often? but yeah definitely appletv can't play anything locally since there is no ports for storage
My only issue with the Shield is with my former high end Panasonic 3D TV and my 2.1 Samsung sound bar {fed via fiber optic} , occasionally a show's dialog will totally be buried by what they call music today and or ambient scene noise. No way can I configure the Shield to give me the ability to boost what was the original center channel which usually carries dialog. While probably not a true Shield issue but more of a system issue, a $35 Raspberry Pi does not exhibit the same issue when streaming the same show. Not a gamer so that feature is wasted on me but I am sure it is important to others. However, never expect any help from NVIDIA or their forum should you have issues. In the 4+ years I have had the device I have received ZERO helpful feedback for transitory issues.
thanks for the comment mike. i'm wondering if you have some conflicting surround/dsp/audio settings with your tv and that soundbar. just a thought. wierd the shield woudl do that.
I think speed and fluidity of the interface is a lot more important then the photos the box shows in a screensaver for 5 mins... not a bad review though, let’s hope Apple updates the TV this year. Good review though, it’s a tough choice between the two. I have the Shield Tube though and it has some bugs in it.. but it does stream media very well. Also I’d say the Apple TV has a lot more 4K content, for instance you can rent a 4K film on Apple TV, can’t do that on a Shield TV.
I think people didn’t read the whole title nor watched the video. Video doesn’t deserve the dislike ratio, really appreciate the comparison! Might pick up a Shield when those HomeKit TVs drop.
Bunch of nvidia fanboys down voting this non biased review. Which doesn’t surprise since nvidia shield is very Google centric (which happens to own RUclips). I find that the Apple TV interface is far more sophisticated and elegant than the competition.
The Apple might be more powerful compared to the shield, but it is for most people worthless because the user is dependant on apple apps. The only apps you can use come from the apple store. No one has the freedom to develop apps for the apple like on android.
Hey I have the same apple 4k fly over screen savor running on my nvidia shield & running inside the Kodi app. I even have a version of it on my mac because someone made a version and uploaded it on github. So I have it for all my devices including my pc's. Also you can open apps on nvidia shield by simply saying"open dish anywhere" or "close dish anywhere". You can also sideload any app from other android app stores, so direct now can be installed. Infact anything that you can install on an android cell phone or tablet can be installed on the nviidia shield. Also the nvidia shield does have more hard drive storage then apple tv, you just purchased the 16gb one, I bought the nvidia shield tv pro which stores 500gb of storage on it and 3gb of memory. Also I have Firefox browser and Google Chrome Browser installed, gmail, twitter and other apps. To me Nvidia Shield TV Pro beats the Apple TV hands down, plus my nvidia shield can control my smart tech and turn my home into a smart home and not to mention that it is also a chromecast which can take cast from android devices and apple devices. You simply can not get anything better then the nvidia shield. I also watch all of my tv from our dish network system thru the dish anywhere app that let's me watch all of my live channels and on demand videos and all of my dvr recorded tv shows and movies and with the help of the sling bult inside the dish network, most of the tv shows skips commercials. I love nvidia shield and I'm doing all of this on the old 1st gen one made in 2015 and what is cool is nvidia the company has given my old 1st gen nvidia shield all the newest updates so what the new one gets, my 1st gen model gets also. Not to mention I play all of my child hood games from my Playstation 2,3 n64, Nintendo, Atari 2600 and other old game consoles, so I have access to over 10,000 old games and not to mention I can also play all the latest games on my gaming pc that I have installed on my nvidia shield using nvidia video card on my gaming pc and all of my games that I purchased on Steam. So Apple TV does not even compare at all. Oh and you can make phone calls on it using hang outs app and you can hook up wireless blue-tooth ear phones and a usb keyboard & mouse or a wireless one. I even have it hooked up to a set of my amplified blue-tooth wireless speakers and it works excellent, oh and it works with my logitech hd webcam also. You can also record your game play using the nvidia shield and share it to RUclips. You can also use any other game controller like any xbox game controller or sony ps4 controller and of course the one that is sold for the nvidia shield, but I like and prefer the wired xbox 360 controller. Of and my 2015 nidia shield tv pro remote is recharging using a micro usb charge cord which came with it and my nvidia game controller also icharges from the same wire and the nvidia will also tell you when it needs to be hooked up to charge. Only the new version of the nvidia remote has that horrible round non-charging round watch battery in it, so just purchase the old 2015 remote and it will work on the old one & the new one also. Oh and it also controls all of my electronics that I control using my harmony hub, so I can say "turn on my projector" or TV and it will turn them on it will even turn on my popcorn popper to make theater popcorn. So can Apple TV compare? NOT At All, not even close. It also reads my morning tech news in my wireless blue-tooth ear phones while I get ready in the morning which can also play on my wireless blue-tooth speakers in my bathroom or any other speaker around my home.
I don't trust nvidia device and android device when it comes to long term stability, support, and usability. Nvidia shits on your old graphic cards every year with their suspicious driver updates that apparently slow it down to force you to upgrade to a new one. Why would I throw my money at such a company? Moreover I'm not comfortable entering my expensive Netflix, HBO, or Hulu account info into an "open source" box, where security vulnerabilities are always a potential. I've never had any issue with my ATV4k, from the moment I turn it on to the moment I gain complete control of every app that I plan to use, it's less than 5 seconds without stuttering or occasionally freeze, and it's been that rock solid for almost 3 years now. Think an android tv based device could compete with such a speed?
You can tell by your dislikes and comments, how wrong you are buddy. I have the Nvidia 500gb pro and my son has the Apple TV. The Nvidia is much faster, way more slick and a hell of a lot more flexible. Apple TV doesn’t even come close.
Nice vid. Only thing I missed is to see how fast they scroll through video thumbs, like on a specific RUclips channel. If you are on a specific channel with 100s of videos. Currently I'm using my Sony UBP-X800 BD player for RUclips and it's incredible fast at browsing. I wouldn't want to miss out on that. My HBO Nordic app on my old TV is incredible slow at scrolling. The difference between how the apps work on the Shield is because of the devs of the apps, not Nvidia. But it seems Apple has forces the devs of all companies to use the same search for all apps. You can like it or not. If it works fine, then great. But Apple has a tendency to want to push things to be done in certain ways and as a user you can live with it or f**k off. The Nvidia Shield has a build-in Chromecast that is also used as screensaver. You can customize what's shown on the screensaver a lot. You just have to do it via the Google Home app on your Android or Iphone. You can also make a custom folder via Google with private photos, and use them as a screensaver. I haven't tried with videos, but AFA I can tell, it's not possible. Did you mention that Chromecast is on the Shield? That's a pretty big deal to many people.
great input thanks a lot. i think i did mention about the chromecast, though can't recall for sure, but you are right i think thats a big plus, the alexa control is also a plus. and i agree, that scroll time is critical, if you are happy with your bd player thats sounds great, i'd love to see it in action.
@@techfreshness - I bought the BD player, because I needed it for 3 things: 4K BD playback RUclips (my old TV only supports 720P and the quality is rubbish) Other apps, like HBO, Plex etc. The RUclips app is accessed from the main menu, all other apps that were on it, were driven a system called VEWD (originally Opera TV). It was a BS system, just going to the main menu took several minutes and the apps were a joke. So Sony recently removed the whole system and the player now only supports a few apps, like Accuweather and RUclips. As mentioned, the YT app is really great, but I miss out on anything else. Hence the interest in the Shield. Sony should have used the Android TV system, as they also do on their TV series. Currently I'm saving up for a decent high-end model. But it's going slow.
Being a plex server all in its own is enough to Win, Apple TV interface is without a doubt beautiful but it’s no an open source platform & would take years & years to get anything the shield offers
You forgot to mention that with the ATV you can easily enter text fields with your iPhone which is a big plus to me but I have tried to use the ATV and I really don't care for the remote's swipe remote. I keep the ATV around to mainly airplay content from my iPhone or iPad which works great. I don't have a Nvidia Shield but have heard from other people a lot of positives about it too. The biggest negative for both the ATV and NS TV is the higher price point than any other streaming player, since I don't care anything about the games. I ended up using a roku for my streaming player since I like the UI and the remote is much more user friendly for me. Great comparison video, good job Brother.
I'm not sure where you came up with the Apple TV is better than the shield but I hate to tell you shield blows it away. It's the swiss army knife of streaming and gaming. Plus 4k HDR video from a NAS? Must be an Apple fan boy.
you right, i actually don't think its better, in fact i thought i stated at the end that the shield is hands down the better overall device. i just happen to use apple tv's
Not a chance. I just spent the last 5 minutes absolutely destroying my apple tv 4k. That thing is in pieces, and I have never felt better. I could not live with myself selling that piece of fucking shit to anyone. 2 4K TV's and sound bar's later...my 2017 Shield will blow the doors off that hot garbage that apple sells. Audio re-encodes, no mkv, no ports(what a surprise), and overall an inferior experience. You would have to pry my iphone from my dead hands, but anything else from that closed minded company would be a nightmare going forward. As it turns out, the biggest weakness in Apple products is the complete lack of choice. Sadly my Apple tv 4k fell to the effects of gravity. and terminal velocity. I know that none are perfect however. But I would stick with a Shield no matter what. Apple arcade...with controllers...laughable, and frustrating as fuck to set up. That slippery, over the top sleek useless controller? Netflix and the rest...you might as well use the onboard apps from the smart tv, and it likely has better file, audio, and video support. I just read that Apple has %6 of the streaming box market. I wonder why? TV IOS? Nothing like apple ramming their shit down your throat again. I am not android fan boy, and have clearly stated my endless love for my Iphone, but I am a windows 10 guy, and Iphone guy, and Ipad, guy, and a shield guy. Anyone want to talk about apple home, and that horribly inept Siri? Didn't think so. Apple is now a dongle company that makes various versions of tech that inevitably make you say "Is that it?" "How much was that?" Except for the iphone ofcourse... There...I fell better now, and need to wipe the froth from my keyboard. Thanks for listening...lol
The apple has better pitcher. But apple is to confined to their operating system you cannot download no third-party apk’ . No kodi . So I purchased both
I have both the shield TV is better for sure but I have a gaming PC I can hook up to my TV that kills both the apple TV and sheld TV so if you have a TV and a good PC hook up the TV and get the apple but If you have a not so great PC or an xbox or playstation get the sheld tv both are great for they're own reasons
Kodi in apple tv is the best experience you will see According to kodi team themselves. BTW : my phone is Android phone and I have the shield but I like Apple apps quality
I got rid of my Apple TV because the apps were crap and in the U.K. hardly ever updated so it basically became a RUclips box. Now I have the Nvidia shield with the gaming setup and there is no comparison nvidia is so superior that I binned the Apple TV. Try gaming on an Apple TV lol. Then try and add storage to your Apple TV no chance lol.
ha yeah man, sounds like the shield much better alternative for you. although i have to say the app selection (besides games) is better on the appletv at least in the US, i'm surprised to hear it is dfferent in the UK. but yeah the shield is a better device overall. no doubt about it.
Yeah man I was very disappointed with the lack of apps, mine was a 2nd gen and without bootleging it you cannot add apps to it in the U.K. with my nvidia shield not only did I get a lot of free games with it but I can download all the apps I need and not just what Apple thinks I want.😂😂😂 witch was considerably annoying when you see all the apps you can get on an American version. Can you add apps on the latest version of Apple TV or have Apple locked that one down too.
Oh and you can just press the home button instead of the back button on any app on the shield and it will take u straight out of the apps lol so I don’t understand why your so hung up on backing out of the app lmao
And you can get the direct tv app on the shield all u gotta do is sideload it. I think you should of waited to make this video until you understood how to do everything cuz it just makes it seem like you don’t know what your talking about. Just my opinion
Yeah but can you easily get third party APPS on Apple TV.? That is the number one reason most people buy devices like this they want free movies most don't want to pay Netflix or any other service.
Just moved over to Apple TV as I originally had the 2015 nvidia shield the reason I’ve moved over to Apple TV is down to updates as android 7.2 updated turned my nvidia to a brick tried to do a hard boot with no luck it’s not the first time it’s happened as it happened with the 7.0 update but was able to hard boot unfortunately not with the latest update - this is my issue with android and have slowly found my self turning to Apple products as they just seem to run smoother- it’s starting to become a known issue with android tv regarding updates.
"starting to become a known issue" where? I can't find any information of a KNOWN problem. Some people have bricked their units, and that could be said for any device that receives updates. My 2015 shield is rock-solid on the latest firmware and the Apple TV can't compare
Myles Brennen yep bricked some people may have however my was bricked with the update like many other people’s have as well - glade yours is sound as a brick and may it be for a long time to come.
@@steve-ey4ol if you can get to that menu, it should be recoverable. I'd take a look at it myself, but I am not in the area(unless belgium). I wouldn't be surprised if a local cell phone repair shop can fix it, being an Android device.

Martin Phillips it’s not open source. It’s android. That is not open source. It’s managed and you still are controlled mostly by google and Nvidia. Oh and everybody’s stock is tanking. Blame trump.
Martin Phillips Yes, the clearest example of this is the fact they face you a rechargeable remote, and no way to actually charge it from the 4K Apple TV Box!?!? I suspect they wanted to make people spend more money buying an Apple charger and also didn’t want to risk anyone hacking their device through a USB port? Very strange decision.
thanks for the comment martin. honestly i don't disagree, the shield is kinda better in almost everywway, i do for some reason enjoy my appletv still though, but the shield is a better overall device objectively speaking, there is no question. i have disagree about the stock assesment though, stock prices move up and down. apple is the most profitable company in the world, and by a good bit. they make $150M of profit every day, think about that, every, single, day. they obviously are doing something right, they make products that people enjoy, call them sheep if you like. but i definitely don't hate on other products when they are good.
A huge advantage the Apple remote has over the Shield’s is battery life. Every time I pick up the remote for the Shield, which is rare, it seems like it’s dead.
What an awful review. The guy is testing on a projector. Lmao. A projector is not going to have the quality of an oled tv with dolby vision. No testing of atmos capabilities either... No mention of RUclips and its hdr and 4k limitations. You test picture quality on a high end tv not a projector. Even the best projectors have poor hdr.
yep yep, you right, although i mention that in the vid, i tested on tv for pic quality, filmed the vid demo using the projector. are you referring to the youtubetv app limitations? the pic quality differences between the 2 devices, marginal at best imo
I think the apple tv is better because of the looks, easiest software to use, And lower price if you don’t care about the gaming things, better controller, Siri is much better then google assistant.
I personally dont think the Apple TV is anywhere close to the Shield in capabilities but I can understand how you might prefer the interface of the Apple TV.
whats up man! i definitely don't disagree, thats why i put in the title ("or does it?") ha (it does not)

yeah man fair enough, i don't disagree with you
I have both, Nvidia with Android lets you do way more things like play games and play 4k movies from HDD.
no doubt
Angelos Tselios I had HD’s storage. It’s sucked it was way too slow. Now that’s only my opinion . I fiannly got a sdd Or whatever it is
Does nvidia shield have any audio issues with 5.1 surround system?
I own 2 shields and 2 Apple TV 4K ‘s. The shield is the fastest system, but does NOT support Dolby vision. This is very important as an OLED owner as it’s the best HDR format currently. I don’t think he mentioned Dolby Vision in this review.
Do you mean dobly atmos - dts x- pass threw hdmi. Because it does..
The shield not having dv was a deal breaker for me too. Most ppl are broke and don’t know nothing about Dolby vision! 😂
@@snocap1200 don't know if that's a compliment or insult 😂 😂 😂 😂.
@@redhulkultra155 just messing with ppl. Oleds can do dv but are really expensive.
THE KYHEADHUNTER Yeah that’s the only down side, but there is talk Nvidia May add it in a firmware update.
You can get those screen savers on shield through kodi. It's called areial you can install in kodi and it looks exactly like Apple TV screen saver in 4k
Tech Review I got my arrival direct from the play store
In Android box you have apks that you can watch 1080p movies and TV shows
Why there there is no optical output ?
How you watch movies, just stereo, I need at least dts ,DD.
Hey there. Just wanted you to be aware of the reason Shield doesn't put the power "brick" as you called it inside the box. Are you not aware how much heat those things generate? When you have to down convert 120V A/C to 12 or 5V DC, a LOT of heat is generated. Why would you put that heat inside a box where you have to add more fans to blow it out when you could separate them?
i see yeah. but why then can the appletv do it, it doesn't seem to have some crazy fan blowing in it that i can tell?

Come on Bruh shield TV is better nuff said

I have benq and shield tv too.sometimes the benq didn’t show pictures,I doubt if the hdmi line is broken?
techfreshness, i have some mkv shows and movies on my computer, i know that by nvidia i can put in an external hd and plug in usb, but on apple tv can i play them? since there is no usb input?
I got both devices and the shield shits on the Apple TV any body agree give me a hell yea
I've tried all brands. I have to say Nvidia Shield needs a bigger push cause it blows any streamer away in the market right now. It's like a Streamer, Xbox, Ps4, Pc. The Deathstar and Spaceball 1 all in 1 device.
yeah its really hands down the best streaming box
Btw entering passwords via internet voice recognition for the win...omg.
hey peter, not sure what you meant about forget? ha on the passwords yeah, i should have demoed it, it works well on the apple tv
Regardless of whether the keyboards are consistent or inconsistent, it still sucks typing in stuff with a "TV" style remote. You can buy a wifi or Bluetooth controller that has a full keyboard. Also, there is an android tv app available for android AND ios. Which will turn your phone/tablet into a controller and then you can type using your phone/tablets touch keyboard.
true true, but its like why can't i just voice input natively, kinda lame
It's in Android app design. The apps are designed to work on numerous devices while Apple apps are tailor made for one device.
Can you change the size of those tiles / icons on the Nvidia Shield?
Hulu+ didn't work on the nvidia shield, correct?
It works but not the live tv part which sucks
Now it’s works well
Your lightning cable actually lights up or looked like it did, that come with the Apple TV or is that third-party ?
As far as I’m concerned what one you should buy depends on how much you like Netflix and if you wanna watch black mirror bandersnatch. Because it don’t work on Apple TV and I’ve got the latest greatest one and I am pissed
hey jarry, yep that is a cable from monoprice, really nice. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=12868&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmafhBRDUARIsACOKERN2mNWaPEtdcLk_-fDAgK0IU1HT_dKhuzeTI2rvapLbCcSPfAZDVRAaAvpkEALw_wcB
and dang, i didnt' realize about that bandersnatch not working, i was just about to watch that a little later too! lame
i guess i'll have to watch it on my computer or something
The ap functions on the Nvidia when backing out are the same as with my LG remote which allows you to logoff. You don't have to exit but it does help clear the cache I believe.
Nvidia shield it's better
Trying to find a list over supported Nvidia Shield apps, turns out it's harder than doing a backflip.
Aerial is available on the shield too
What about playing video files?
Through apps such as Plex, Kodi, SPMC,and MrMC The Shield can play 1:1 Blu Ray and UHD Rips with Lossless Audio with ease.
Can you easily install kodi on apple tv?
not easily, although have you given plex a try?
No I haven't, been only using kodi for a long time. Can you use plex on the shield?
not easically
@@jamesfaiat8165 yeap
james faiat If you have a apple computer then yes it is relatively easy, if you don’t you’re out of luck (like me)
I like that the shield has a 2 USB port also the remote and game pad has a headphone plug , and you can run plex stand alone or the shield
Also I’d say the Apple TV has a lot more 4K content, for instance you can rent a 4K film on Apple TV, can’t do that on a Shield TV.
nvidia shield is the king of streaming and king of android boxes, nothing to compare
Your audio is weak, just like the Apple TV.😢😭
Nvidia shield is much better than Apple 4k
I think people didn’t read the whole title nor watched the video. Video doesn’t deserve the dislike ratio, really appreciate the comparison! Might pick up a Shield when those HomeKit TVs drop.
Bunch of nvidia fanboys down voting this non biased review. Which doesn’t surprise since nvidia shield is very Google centric (which happens to own RUclips). I find that the Apple TV interface is far more sophisticated and elegant than the competition.
A few critiques: 1) the volume. I can’t hear very well even at max volume. 2) pacing. I watched this video at 2x speed and it still felt too slow.
Nvidia Shield is the man!!! Even my sister who owns everything Apple was like "That streaming box of yours does way more then mine". 😆
Is RUclips TV a free service ??
This review is so bad
Was ready to give you a ear full, then i saw the "or does it?".
You can tell by your dislikes and comments, how wrong you are buddy. I have the Nvidia 500gb pro and my son has the Apple TV. The Nvidia is much faster, way more slick and a hell of a lot more flexible. Apple TV doesn’t even come close.
Where you been brother? Glad you are making videos again.
thanks a lot, just trying to make this one, took me so long!
@@techfreshness - I bought the BD player, because I needed it for 3 things:
4K BD playback
RUclips (my old TV only supports 720P and the quality is rubbish)
Other apps, like HBO, Plex etc.
@@techfreshness NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro best streaming device.
@@techfreshness you didn’t mention you can side-load or download third party apps on the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro.
Being a plex server all in its own is enough to Win, Apple TV interface is without a doubt beautiful but it’s no an open source platform & would take years & years to get anything the shield offers
With all respect, you should clean the devices before making a review. The appleTV looked real nasty with those fingerprints all over.
Apple TV is no way as good as the shield. Shield rips the apple apart
i don't think i disagree with you actually
Apple is now a dongle company that makes various versions of tech that inevitably make you say "Is that it?"
"How much was that?" Except for the iphone ofcourse...
Shield can be a Plex server, that's a great advantage for me
Kodi in apple tv is the best experience you will see According to kodi team themselves.
BTW : my phone is Android phone and I have the shield but I like Apple apps quality
Apple TV isn’t even as good as the $100 Android TVs. Just so limited what you can do on it
I got rid of my Apple TV because the apps were crap and in the U.K. hardly ever updated so it basically became a RUclips box.
I post here to say click bait title.
i comment here to say busted
Yeah but can you easily get third party APPS on Apple TV.? That is the number one reason most people buy devices like this they want free movies most don't want to pay Netflix or any other service.
Att tv now is on nvidea shield lol wat you talking about
Just moved over to Apple TV as I originally had the 2015 nvidia shield the reason I’ve moved over to Apple TV is down to updates as android 7.2 updated turned my nvidia to a brick tried to do a hard boot with no luck it’s not the first time it’s happened as it happened with the 7.0 update but was able to hard boot unfortunately not with the latest update - this is my issue with android and have slowly found my self turning to Apple products as they just seem to run smoother- it’s starting to become a known issue with android tv regarding updates.
"starting to become a known issue" where? I can't find any information of a KNOWN problem. Some people have bricked their units, and that could be said for any device that receives updates. My 2015 shield is rock-solid on the latest firmware and the Apple TV can't compare
Did you try contacting Nvidia support? They fixed all problems I had with it.
Myles Brennen yep bricked some people may have however my was bricked with the update like many other people’s have as well - glade yours is sound as a brick and may it be for a long time to come.

So Apple TV wins with ONLY their screen saver??! Fantastic! 🥱
But I think I’ll stick with the shield.
I own a Apple 🍎 product you reviewing, and own the Nivida shield .the only thing these prouduct got in common is there expensive,
Otherwise Nivida shield is the best prouduct out there. This prouduct (Nivida shield) has open source which alouds any body

Tanking .there CEO 👨💼 is clueless on there products. Apple 🍎 for me. Has stop ✋ invovate
Very strange decision.
thanks for the comment martin. honestly i don't disagree, the shield is kinda better in almost everywway, i do for some reason enjoy my appletv still though, but the shield is a better overall device objectively speaking, there is no question. i have disagree about the stock assesment though, stock prices move up and down. apple is the most profitable company in the world, and by a good bit. they make $150M of profit every day, think about that, every, single, day. they obviously are doing something right, they make products that people enjoy, call them sheep if you like. but i definitely don't hate on other products when they are good.
prowl Even while tanking, it's still much higher than how Obama left is. #MAGA
Sorry but the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro is by far the superior device -

LOL you are wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shield..Nuff said
I think the apple tv is better because of the looks, easiest software to use,
