i just wanna state that im not tryna throw any shade at the animators I know how hard they work and I'm more than happy with what we got and also just happy we got a season two in general so yeh :D
The only reason they changed is they changed the director
im mad confused if he was calling theanimeman gigguk on purpose
@@Nameless_TFi think he says gege akutami
🤓🤓
Bro tried to say that season 2 was a lot more sillier acting as if season 2 is not the most depressing season by far.
I was saying these before we got the first season two episode. The new animation fits because it was a time in which they were in happier youthful times of fun and games, in Gojos case. He really thought nothing could hurt him and everything was going swell. The bright colors carefree and zero humbleness Gojo reflected with flexable shapes of goofy comedy. Season one feels like the negative impact that followed after Inventory arc, Tengen evolving and the defected Geto. The dark melancholy seriousness we see through Gojos eyes he is aware something was coming and he was preparing for strong sorcerers. There was some lightness with the trio but there was an eerie feeling they were always living in danger and something is going to happen.
Going forward after Inventory and into Shibuya arc, I am curious what atmosphere they will create with this new animation and what kind of sky we will have during Shibuya/Culling. By sky i am curious on the lighting and shading if itll be dark shadowed of a bit bright.
no, they changed the whole art style and animation style, what you're talking about is probably the color choice
not to mention that, gojo past arc was mostly in day-time
@@quasogod yes its a new animation director and art style. I am still curious what atmosphere Shibuya will have nonetheless
It seems to be, the hidden inventory arc animation and art style was very fluid and episode 5 where Gojo was daydreaming at the end shows how the whole art style is cinematic which is absolutely amazing.
@@semekiizuiowell we have a sneak peak from the Key visual with the Hidden inventory and Shibuya arc characters in the train. Seems a little darker toned. But we should be getting a PV pretty soon within the coming weeks before episode 6 drops.
@@quasogod Shibuya looks way more similar to season 1 tbh. It just has less of a glossy effect than the previous season. Hidden Inventory has a simpler style, which makes me suspect that they animated a good portion of the Shibuya Incident Arc first, then left the Hidden Inventory to the last since it's pretty short.
The new art style and animation aren't bad. They were most likely changed only because the new director has a different vision for the series. The problem is that the art style of the first season fits jjk better and is closer to the style of the manga.
idk imo the 1st season looked way more generic, this season looks very nice and i would watch the anime simply for the animation alone. didnt plan to watch the anime after the 1st season because i dont watch shounen that much and it was nothign special, but then after seeing the movie and the 2nd season i changed my mind completely, this is one of the best shounen out there so far, and i think the new animation style played a big part in that, at least for me.
@@zezanje1 Good for you, dude. I also like the new style(except ep 5, it looked unfinished imo), I prefer the old one tho, but if the change makes the anime more enjoyable to people then I can't complain.
@iamautism9268 well im not an expert in animation and all the things that go with this new animation style just fits the show better in terms of the general tone of the show, like it has more personality, which the old one lacked, it just looked nice, but way more generic

i agree i prefer this style, i hate the glossy clothes of last season haha
I love last season . This season has no face shadows and i don't think red and purple were as attractive as season 1
I respectfully disagree
I agree, it let’s us have a lot more fluid animation. Some people hate change so the hate is expected.
@@bush3126agreed
I love the new style to but that’s kinda crazy to say that it’s kinda bad
there’s 2 main reasons for the change in this season, the first is that there is a new director for this season who had a different stylistic approach compared to the director of s1 and chose to have simpler characters designs for more movement and motion in animation, the series isn’t “more vibrant” as s1 and jjk 0 had also it’s vibrant scenes
and the second reason is because the schedule for s2 of jjk isn’t the best and having to draw s1 very detailed designs, detailed line work, and shading is so much more time consuming compared to this season, so in order for the team working on s2 to keep up with the schedule and put out high quality episodes that don’t dip to bad in quality they had get rid of the overly complicate designs of s1
Reminds me of the dbs broly movie style animation. Simpler, allowing for more fluid animation with far less detail that most won't appreciate or miss really
The backgrounds are way better in S2
exactly, people often forget how easier it is for the animators to keep the quality with a simpler art style
@@NatoriousGamePlay lol when i watched DBS Broly i said "wow they don't look shrink wrapped" because they didn't draw each muscle crease.
SOOOO... The quality ain't better like most MAPPA's D ridders assure. 🤷♀️
I would love if the animation in this season remains the same in the upcoming seasons it just seems smoother imo
It will as it is much easier to animate in this style and we can get some fluid action and new director loves fluidity.
So it will remain 90% the same until the director is changed again, which is not going to happen. 😆
Yup, it gives the animators more flexibility, making the movement more fluid than the previous seasons :]! Especially with the upcoming arc after Hidden Inventory/Plasma Vessel
@@maui.8957
Ridiculous argument.
I love the new animation but I prefer the old art style I think it fit JJK more
It makes smooth crisp animation impossible because they put too much detail in it. The only time it really worked was the movie and that’s because they had a bajillion dollars as a budget
Manga and current animation style mesh really well tho. Both look raw and ready for action. Where in s1 everything looked unnecessarily heavy
@crystalblade13 I know that’s what I’m talking about. I’m saying season two is far smoother because of it’s simpler art style.
S1 animation feels higher quality to me
@@bletwort2920 nostalgia. This season blends everything together so much better. At points in season 1 when people are running during fights it looks super goofy because they move and the background doesn’t. It does have its moments though
I feel like the somewhat more simplistic style of season 2 will work to its benefit once Shibuya gets started. God knows the action will be cranked to 11 almost the whole season so not having to focus so much on every nitty-gritty detail will probably do wonders for letting Mappa's staff see their families again
Mappa staff is a clownshow, they dont work on anything other than jjk, lets not pretend they're overworked because they turned their 5th beloved series into a cgi monstrosity so they could pocket more money for jjk.

Well seeing the fighting moments that happen in Shibuya Arc, I can see now why they changed their animation style cause holy, the fights are just...
The shibuya Designs are nearly the same as s1 but more distinctive and non of those unnecessery details on fabric
I for one way prefer the season 2 art style. It looks way more alive and reminds me of Chainsaw Man.
You're right about that comparison. Season 2 is definitely cinematic like a movie.
That's because they are produced by same Animation Studio: S2 of JJK and ChainsawMan are under company Mappa

This would only make sense if the art style gets darker after the latest episode
Character design will stay the same but of course the compositing and lightning etc will get darker according to the location
They showed they could in the first part of the first episode, so along with amazing animation without the cost of the background I think it was a good choice

Just a few important people left the studio, thats all.
“The first season is filled with a lot more serious moments” little did bro know what was to come although I already knew before it was animated because I read the manga.
I had a youthful vibe with the animation for s2 but I never noticed the tonal contrast til you mentioned it lol. Really shows the contrast of Gojo’s happiness with Geto during his school years vs the aftermath.
Could also be how he reminisces his time in high school, hence why it seems like a happy tone until everything turned downhill
Great video, enjoyed how you highlighted the strengths for each season, and honestly, I preferred this season’s style lol. But ngl, can’t give up modern day Gojo and Geto
I also think a lot of what makes the change in the second work was the feeling of nostalgia. Because the animation is so based on general shape of movement, lighter line work, and “fresh” colors, it really accentuated the “summer-like” feel. Especially since Hidden Inventory ends the way it does, the seemingly light moments are able to really make the dark ending hurt much more, similarly to how people usually look back on the carefree summers of their youth.
"season one has more darker moments" oh how i wish i can go back
S1 was really good in terms of animation but something about s2 with the new direction and art style really kept me hyped for each ep. I think the new direction pairs perfectly with the art style. I love it so much.
thank you for making this video short, some youtubers would milk for time
I miss the old style so much man
the main reason why they changed the character designs is that
1. the director was changed.
2. to make the animation workflow much easier since they had no time animating it and as we know right now. the later EP got delayed.
It didn't get delayed. There's some national holiday on the broadcast day and 2 episode are recaps. Don't assume things.
@@simplyrohith2163 just a heads up I'm not assuming things here. You might want to do a quick research check. Here's the deal: this season has two parts. The first part, which wrapped up after five episodes, is done. Now, there's a three-week break, which two recap episodes will be in. It's still technically a delay and the split happened due to a rocky production schedule. The production committee split it to give the animators more time.
@@iomar224 in Mappa stage the production head Keisuke Seshimo himself said that s2 is gonna be nonstop action. It's technically not a delay. On August 10th there was broadcast of National Athletics Day event in TBS channel in which JJK airs in Japan. The next 2 episodes are recap due to long gap between movie and s1 with s2. To also decrease workload ofc. I have my research done 😅. As you said it's a blessing in disguise for them ofc. They're probably at ep 12-13 rn. If not breaks then everything is gonna come crashing down
@@simplyrohith2163 i see.. since it was part of the plan all along, I guess it's not really a delay, huh? Thanks for clearing that up! Still super stoked about it. Shoto's crew has been killing it with those episodes, even with the time crunch. Word is, the next arc's gonna be a total action fest, and I'm totally here for that i cant wait to see what they're cooking.
We need old animation style.
the way my ass didn't even notice a style change
I believe that the new one its smoother and easier to draw, so the animation improves, I felt the second season with more movement, and I personally love it
Personally I was taken aback when I saw the rotoscoping in the first episode of the new season, but the more I watch the more little animation changes I notice and I'm starting to appreciate animation even more!
3 months later and we're like.. 9 episodes? (Too lazy to count) into Shibuya Arc, and I gotta say I really miss the dark and grittier style of S1.
I do think the new style fitted the first arc about Gojo's past but imo Shibuya will really benefit from a MUCH darker tone and style, like S1 had.
Combine that with news of animators speaking out against Mappa and the apparent production hell that they're going through, it is such a shame that the best arc on the series is plagued with all these issues.
"The first season is filled with a lot more serious moments", we'll see about that come Shibuya, lol.
I’m Finna start watchin this (I’ve seen some spoilers but idgaf) seeing gojo fall from the building in the op not givin a Shi was fire as hell
Love the series as always
I was under the impression that the art style chosen would be intrinsic to the past chronological Contant. Granted, if it doesn’t change when we get back to the present, I don’t see it as a dealbreaker.
Season 1 animation was way better, but no one dislikes season 2 enough to change it so it's here to stay forever unfortunately...unless they change animation directors on their own.
i hope they keep it this way, its really much more enjoyable to watch
This style is in gojos eyes, which is why you can see through his glasses now, because it’s through his imagination, which makes the whole thing more vibrant and goofy.
I like art style but i want gojo eyes in previous art style
I honestly didn't even know the animation style had changed
the new styles helps make the anime as close to the manga as possible
Pretty sure it's different, because the director left to start his own studio. He's doing Ninja Kamui for Toonami.
Honestly, this style will allow for more fluid animation; like in Mob Psycho.
Didn't notice until you pointed it out.
I am just grateful i love both styles !
I actually love this arc’s animation style. It feels so fresh and youthful- although I didn’t think much about the undertones of the story. I just thought they got a lot of budget to work on 😅
The animation looks crispy i like it
The composition of the last episode was the best one yet

it's not first seasons art style makes sense more with how dark is jjk is but new art style is just cartoony in some places and characters look simple
So like the manga
But in return animation is smoother and much, much easier to animate.
This is very good decision on director's part because Shibuya arc is literally non stop fighting, si animators who work on Jujutsu Kaisen would die from overwork if they had to keep detailed art style
@@senjusan6359season1 had a lot of fight scenes too. just because shibuya is more emotional, brutal or whatever its not more difficult to animte. besides they could animate the non action scenes like season1 at least. The geto turns evil episode looked like fanmade and was not emotional at all.
@@SnowyXx Very strange takes

I'll take the artstyle that allows for more fluid animation any day. The action scenes just feel more cinematic and energetic in my opinion.
My bro is underrated
I'm gonna be honest, the new style is good, and it makes up for the change with even better animation than season 1
I didn’t start yet and I’m shocked by the title I really love the old style,I’ll give my opinion after watching the new season
Would you like to express your opinion now?
i started watching jjk for the art style but i am absolutely loving season 2's direction. mostly because I'm a huge fan of this kind of crisp and clean art style, plus top tier animation fluidity makes me weak. I'm so looking forward to shibuya.
I love both styles. I think this style just suites this story line right now perfectly. But look, to be honest, idgaf as long as I get to see Gojo throw those hands around 👌
I like the new animation style. Plus making it funnier is good considering how brutal this arc is going to be...
personally for me, i think the reason for the change of animation styles in gojo's past arc is because maybe it's supposed to show in gojo's vision. he is dreaming after all, and it would make sense if things were not too detailed. since it happened quite a long time ago already, of course the vision would be more simple.
(+and also prob because mappa was planning to put more of their work on the shibuya arc since it will be more longer than gojo's past arc.)
I didnt even notice it changed lmfao
I do like the style of this season better it just seems more like it fits the tone of this season specially

The character designs changed slightly not only because there's a new director but also to resemble the artwork of the manga more closely. Also, the benefit of having simpler character designs is that it gives animators more room to animate chibi designs for comedic moments and to increase the impact of fighting scenes by exaggerating action sequences, all while maintaining the overall look of the current season. The new character designs makes things more flexible for animators.
“It was a more silly season”

Smooth, dynamic animation > detailed animation
Hello! Would love to know the bgm you used in this video🙏😊it's so relaxing~
At the end of the most recent episode when gojo wakes up we see the art style change back to season 1’s art style so yes the art style change was intentional
Also, the composition in season 1 wasnt very consistent. At times it could look very messy too. Even if the animation was good, the composition in the fight scenes looked confusing and i think the newer art style not only helps with the production as they are much simpler, but its easier to understand character movements. I dont know why people say this art style is cartoony or something when theres already scenes like the shower scene with geto, which is pretty dark and depressing imo.
Shintani really changed the game for modern anime, almost every anime was going with that glossy plastic like art, but when shintani worked on dbs broly and showed how smooth and fluid the flat color palettes can be it set a new wave just look at one piece
I legit didn't even notice maybe im just slow
This is honestly the problem with people nowadays. The fact that anyone has the nerve to call THIS bad animation is beyond crazy to me. In what way is this animation “bad”. Does it look perfect? No. Has any animation ever looked “perfect” in everyone’s eyes? No. But are there at least animations that are overall accepted by the community as good? Yes. We have been getting OUT OF THIS WORLD animations with so many animes nowadays that people are starting to be so nit picky about things and making their animation standards extremely high. Which, isn’t entirely a bad thing since animations do evolve overtime and this means that the overall anime animations as a product has been increasing in standard but we’re at that stage where unless the anime looks like mushoku, jjk, attack on Titan, and etc it’s “bad”. Like cmon
Why is this even a debate? For someone who hasn't read the manga I literally found the new art style to be an upgrade. Nothing to complain about. The vibrant colors look amazing and the occasional jump in art style fits the atmosphere really well when it needs to.
I'm at that point when I'm just happy that a manga I like is getting an anime. I saw the animation change but didn't even think about complaining, I actually ended up liking it.
I think many people nowadays, especially younger/newer fans, just see some crazy animation from well-known animes and think that if another anime doesn't match that level of animation, it's bad.
Like seriously kids just look how older animes looked if you think this is bad and we all still watched it😂
The problem with new anime fans is that they can't differentiate "bad animations" with "animations that I don't like"
I laughed so hard when I saw somebody complaining that the latest JJK S2 Episode is the **worst** JJK episode in terms of **ANIMATION**
in my opinion i finished lots of animies for example one piece, demon slayer, one punch man and Tokyo revengers
and I love both seasons of the animie
i just hope they keep the waay they animate cursed energy the same. in the last 5 eps they used a faint blue glow in some cases. or gojo's blue which i believe didn't have an animation before which i liked more.
i’ve been loving season 2 way more than season 1 rn

I guess its only going to be like this for the past arc , we might get another shift when im shibuya
