Living the dream. Cramming a big motor into a small truck
While you have the engine out of the Tacoma you should pull the bolts that hold the steering rack in and run them up from the bottom. It will make a future rack swap way easier.
Thanks for the tip...will do
No need for a rear sump pan for this swap. Pretty sure the 4th Gen 4Runner oil pan will bolt right up like factory and will clear all your components since that tacoma and the 4th Gen 4Runner share the same design for front suspension/frame. It literally should just drop right in.
Came here to say that. Along with a lot of other parts.
GX470 should work too since they are built on essentially the same chassis as the 4runner
I looked at one of those of Ebay...was worried that it wouldn't fit with this combo...but good to hear it would...honestly same price as the rear sump
I agree it should be a simple swap as it’s the same frame as the 4th Gen 4Runner
I remember Toyota had a 4.7 taco at a SEMA show back before the second gen release I think so when you say “it’s almost like it’s meant to be” is probably because it was. Sucks they never did the production model of it. They put it in the 4th gen 4Runners which were awesome to drive.
In my Camry when I did the 5speed swap I was able to just wire three resistors into the auto harness to ground, one for each shift solenoid, it cost about 5 bucks for all of them, and kept the car out of limp mode
Great project, those 4.7's are great motors.
I too bought an E-mountain bike, but also got a spare battery and a factory lockable mount, then installed that on the rear rack (not wired).
Doubles my riding range.
Pretty sure... thats what every taco needs!!
Just finishing a 2UZ/auto swap on my Yota buggy ..after driving it a few times wow its alot more fun than the 22r..pulled it from a Lx470 and had the lexus v8 guys in Florida do a standalone harness..enjoy your videos with good info!
Sweet swap! Really cool its going together so well
Hopefully before you install engine, you pull the intake and replace the starter. Trust me, it’s easier with engine out of truck than it will be with it installed…. Great build, can’t wait to see it finished.
Planning on it
@@BigTireGarage You don't necessarily need to replace the starter just rebuild the OEM one with new contacts.
I used to have the same exact model truck only 2wd. 05 Single cab, 2.7L, 5-speed with a lift on 33s, regeared with an LSD, It was a ton of fun to drive. I loved that truck and I never should have sold it. Its going to be insane with the 4.7. Subscribed!
Back in the 80s. Mini truck club days. I remember guys dropping in Chevy 350s rather easily into Toyotas. I never did.
My 4 banger with a 5 speed manual use to boogy on down.
My 59 year old brain keeps thinking I’d like to get into this Outback simpler overlanding fun. Seems the mini truck craze is still going strong.
The mini truck days were really big in the 90s as well and I know this because if I wasn't at the drag strip drag racing with family and friends I was looking for a car show to go to and I was a hang around for a low rider car club and my cousin and her husband had an early 90s S10 that he put a solid fiberglass camper shell on the bed and made his S10 truck basically into a Blazer because he added a second row bench seat to hold 3 more passengers in the back and behind that he had a wall with 6 12in subwoofers and a bunch of mids and highs everywhere but I'm his car club they had over 30 members and probably around half of the vehicles involved in the car club were either mini trucks or full size trucks and the rest were cars ranging from Honda's to old school Ford Thunderbird I remember which was one of my favorites in the club just because it was old school
@@keefespencer1173 The club I was in was all minis “SoCal Minis”. Most of our runs were with other mini clubs. The only other clubs that come to mind is SunSet Minis and Bonzai Minis.
Once in a while we’d have meets with van clubs. The only names I can remember are Night Lights and Bon Ton vans. Good times.
Volleyball, softball and football between clubs.
I was wondering where you went Ian. Missed your shows with Jesse back in the day. Although I'm more of a car guy than a truck guy, anybody who can fabricate something to make a square peg fit in a round hole is just what I like....
Good to see an update on this.
Love it! Can't wait to see it completed!
Got a 4.7 in my 1st gen sequoia. Love that engine
I absolutely love that truck. Looking forward to seeing the completed swap.
You and me both!
@@BigTireGarage so get to it.
We need to see this thing moving by end of week!😂
You can hear the excitement of it fitting together.
V8 manual taco. Hell ya!
I own a second-gen Tacoma and also an 84 with a supercharged 1UZ I am installing. I have a physical version of the oil pan you need if you need dimensions. I work for Toyota so if you have any questions on wiring or any other details feel free. I am a fellow Canuck too!
Need that 4.7 in my third gen Tacoma
For future reference, I’ve found dipping the end of plastic fuel lines in hot water helps get them on barb fittings awesome…
Always loved the 4x4 show. I had a 22RE 88 xtra cab that i miss and then a 97’ reg cab taco, they both could climb walls
You can get an ECU meant for the 2UZ with a manual transmissions. P/N 89661-6A270. That ECU will make your setup much simpler without the need for an emulator.
This is awesome! Can’t wait to this done
Awesome can’t wait to see it done 👍👍
The truck we always wanted Toyota to build
Nice too see you again! From Nebraska
Love this , I have an 05 tundra double cab limited that I want to manual swap , nice to see people using the 2uz fe in more then just tundras!
I have the same truck, what transmission would you use? The R150?
Lol I did this swap in this same platform 6 years ago.
Nice swap, badass truck
A Fumoto oil drain valve fitted to this pan would make oil changes easy if the rack is in the way. There are plenty of different valves available for your thread pitch.
Yup... I want one now.
Been waiting for this!!!!
Extreme 4x4 all over!...excellent video.
Glad you liked it!
I'm falling in love with this TACO!!! 😍😍😍
Me too
My wife calls you Syndrome, bad guy from the first Incredibles movie. I think it’s the hair.
I put the 4.0 version of this engine in my 99 tacoma, just got it running and driving, i posted a vid of it driving the other day
Wouldn't the oil pan, mounts, computer etc be the same as the 4Runner that came with this engine stock?
Would love to put the 4.7 in a first gen taco crewcab 4wd with a manual.
Yeah. Makes sense. Too bad there're very few V8 4Runner donors out there while first generation Tundras are everywhere and falling apart.
I've always wondered how a build like this one and a full Titan swapped Frontier would compare? I understand it is almost a bolt in swap, suspension and all, but I never see anything on them
Seeing that the 2UZ came in the 4th gen 4Runner, I would assume it would feel right at home in a 2nd gen Tacoma.
Looking forward to this build.
Does Jillian know you're on RUclips
Mighty fine Gambler 500 flag in the shop!
The 2uz was offered in the same year 4Runners from the factory. Use the factory power steering lines and ac setup from a 4runner.
What do the guys we watch at work watch when they are working? Days Of Our Lives on the phone lol! Classic.
love your content and i love the hair, absolute legend.
Look at the V6 4.0L oil pan. I'm sure they're about the same size and would let you see the correct shape. At least none of that stuff in the middle moves so you can be pretty close without an issue.
Always wanted to put a TC and a solid front axle swap under my Tundra.
Looking good 👍👍
Opa.. Top.. sempre curtindo aqui do Brasil..
6speed manual/ transfer
cases from a Fj would be a great upgrade with the AWD, lock diff to make it true 4hi and 4low transfer case. on all land cruisers and 4Runners. just my thoughts as AWD is best for dirt & snowy roads.
I already swapped in the FJ cruiser T Case
Interesting the O2s are in the bottom of the headers... always thought those needed to be up too to avoid moisture...Toyota breaking the rules! Nice work!
A coworker of mine swapped a Lexus v-8 into a 4Runner a couple years ago the only problem he had was the age difference with wiring and fuel delivery.
Were did you get the conversion harness for your conversion. I've already converted my 93' pickup to the 3.4l and it's so much better than the 4cyl. But as we all no there is no replacement for displacement and the next thing up is a 1UZ or 2UZ. Also where did you get the transmission adapter plate.
Where did you get the wiring harness from?
Great job, I've been wanting someone to do this, but I also want someone to put the big 5.7L V-8 Tundra motor in a Tacoma, if it's even possible. Can you imagine the torque and speed on that thang? Anyways, keep up the great work, I look forward to new episodes of Fourwheeler as well!
Been done already
I saw a Tundra 5.7 in a 2wd Tacoma TRD racing truck a few years back.
The 4.7 or 5.7 should have been the motor that went in the new supra. I mean if they already going with a BMW motor and car they should have just threw in the V8 with a supercharger or turbo as extra option
Solid axle swap, would open up under the motor.
I have a 2012 Taco and a 2007 V8 4Runner, and I have been thinking about this very same swap for a while now. you're basically building a newer first gen Tundra
Also, I'd like to see a 2TR swap into an older pickup (instead of a 3RZ)
I totally agree on mechanical fan. EFans are just a long term hassle.
Truth....can be a pain and unreliable when not working
Love it
Is this the 5 or 6 speed manual trans? If so where did you get the adapter plate from?
The music before you talk about the bolts reminded me of something, had to find it. Took a minute but it was a song from the movie Snatch. Disco Science. Fat tires rule and front fenders suck!!!
Dang dude! I remember seeing you and jessi on spikeTV Xtreme 4x4 back in 05
🤘🏼 love the content!
Thanks for watching!!
Makes me want to scroll Marketplace for a Taco!
Should do the marlin crawler kit up front and a linked spider 9 in the rear!
Not for this one...we have a plan to do a Marlin Kit on FourWheeler
QUESTION: What are you usually watching on your phone while filming? I always see it playing in the background. Keep up the amazing content!
YES! YOU SHOULD TURBOCHARGE THE BEEEOTCH!!!! 🙌
I'm trying to concentrate, but all I can think of is Will Farrell doing Harry Caray.
I read somewhere the 2tr is a reverse rotation engine, is there anything special you have to do to the transmission or diff?
Hey Ian! I would like to know your thoughts on tire thickness like what ply do you recommend? Francis I'm driving a Jeep TJ 2 in suspension lift one and a quarter body lift with flat fenders and 35s do I need to be running 10 ply tires where can I get away with 8 ply?
Who made the bell housing adapter and do they make one for the 6-speed manual?
Where did you get the bell housing adapter
A flatbed tray and popup camper like the down to mob gladiator would be sweet on that truck
Where did you get the conversion harness and transmission emulator from?
I have exactly the same coffee maker... Lol
They make a kit to swap the tundra steering rack too. Might pull that over while you’re at it.
Trd supercharger would be a cool upgrade for the motor
What ecu are you running on the 2UZFE? I ran Megasquirt on my 1UZ and had zero issues.
Can you provide a link to the wiring harness you bought?
I love to see sas’ed 4runners and tacos, makes a whole lot of room for different engine combos
Tacoma. Tacos are food.
@@Natschke_Family_Adventures lol good food at that
Damn it‼ Purchased an aluminum 5.3LS and a Tremec TKX to install into our Regular Cab Taco… LINKS PLEASE and MORE LINKS to where you found this kit⁉
I have the same truck. And thinking of doing a v6 supercharged swap when the engine gives way. Any ideas or links for the conversion?
i would get my hands on a new V8 and swap it into a new 4Runner
worst thing toyta did was to take the v8 option out of the 4runner platform
Why not go 3uz? Lighter weight, more horsepower, and everything uz is interchangeable. You could run any of the oil pans, intake/exhaust manifolds, and modular wiring harness.
I have been looking into doing a uz swap into my 92 pickup for years and simply haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Before that I had an 06 Tacoma that I wasn’t happy with. TTORA introduced me to the UZ platform and I have been interested in this project for a long time now.
Couldn't find a good donor....I was lucky enough to find the 05 Tundra
Should check out the Lexus GX470, its the 4runner vision with the v8 in it. It would be a good thing for parts and layout.
How would a dry sump work out on it? Because that would help in off angle oil starvation.
Very cool build, I’m surprised more people don’t do that swap
Its a lot of moving parts to make it work...but it will be awesome!!!
@@BigTireGarage What engine was in the Tacoma and what exact manual transmission do you have? I have a 2UZ Tundra that I want to do a manual swap in but for example cant use the 4.0L FJ / Taco 6 speed because no one makes an adapter or bellhousing. So, Im very curious what you have. R151? R151F ???
@@oldowl4290 not sure on the transmission, but it’s the 2.7 liter straight 4 cylinder. 2TR-FE
@@bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 thanks, it would mean you have the W59 which is a 5 speed. Im shocked that the A340 (automatic trans) bellhousing would bolt right up to your W59 and work properly. That’s a great stroke of luck.
could you have shimmed up the rear trans mount to help with that angle it has the motor at?
Everytime i see the jeep on the table i just wanna know more lol
The 4.7 is one of my favorite Toyota engines, I don't understand why Toyota didn't make a 4.7 taco in the first place.
Would take buyers away from the the Taundra.
I've never used that type of throwout bearing yet. I don't know if the bearing face is supposed to be in constant contact with the pressure plate fingers? If it is in contact full time, won't that lead to premature bearing wear?
Depends on the bearings some are designed for constant contact...other have an air gap
question : you use the 3.4 flywheel or ?
i remember that truck from 4 wheeler. yer the first you tube guy i've seen actually use hand tools instead of battery powered stuff. 🤣🤣
What trans and where did you get the adapter???? Thinking I need to do on 1 gen 4Runner!!!
I will go through everything in a future vid
That's awesome. 😂
What about the transmission tho. Can it even hold the power from the V8? Did you do anything to the trans?
Would anyone know if there is a kit for a 2WD prerunner short bed with an automatic?
Are there any changes to the fuel system to supply the V8 vs the I4?
Not sure..gonna check pressures and if I need more I will swap the pump inside the module of the Taco
First time I’ve ever liked this spike haired fella. He’s a goof ball and I feel like he builds cars for looks and not function. He seems like he daily drives a big bright yellow H2 with a bunch of light bars and custom sub boxes for back seats. But this is truly something I’m interested in and will be following this closely
If you saw my car collection everything you said is completely wrong
Hot Springs in October for SCC?
Knowing you im surprised ya havent sased it befor the swap!
I was gonna SAS this truck but went with the All Pro mid travel and I love it
