I think for 2023 Apple should have focused on the 60th Anniversary of the 'Please Please Me' and 'With The Beatles' LP's. After Revolver the Beatles albums from 1963 should have been the priority for new stereo remixes in 2023. Even if they had to release them as one Anniversary edition set because of lack of outtakes, those two 1963 albums should have been given new stereo remixes. For 2024 we should get 'A Hard Day's Night'/'Beatles For Sale', and 2025 'Help!'/Rubber Soul'. I personally think those first 6 albums would benefit most from new mixes using the AI demixing technology. Of course this is just my opinion, and what I was hoping for in the next couple years. But I want to see the Star Club recordings, Magical Mystery Tour, the Yellow Submarine songs, and all the singles given the remixing treatment too, so I suppose it doesn't matter what order they do them in?
Perfect opportunity for Anthology 4. It needs to be backed with something significant. If this is truly the last Beatle track. Update the rest of the Anthologies too. Stream the documentary along with Blu-Ray. This is where Carnival of Light would be appropriate. If you can do What’s the New Mary Jane on the prior Anthologies, you can definitely add CoL.
I think there is a LOT of stuff that will be released in the near future that we are not privy to yet. I can't imagine the 60th anniversary of coming to America going practically unnoticed. So we can cross our fingers and hope.
I agree Carnival of light is way overdue. There is other unreleased tracks such as Paul McCartney singing I Want You (She's So Heavy). They also need to officially release all of the Christmas Beatle albums compilation.
I try to use humor to ease any tension that may come up considering that this announcement has certainly had a divided response so far, even without actually hearing the song. LOL.
I think you are right. Paul is using the term “AI” as a catch-all. There is a big difference between cleaning up a recording by isolating vocals and instruments (like Giles Martin did with “Revolver”) or removing noise from a vocal or instrument track. In this case, AI is not creating a John vocal out of nothing. They are using Peter Jackson’s technology to clean up and enhance a John vocal track that has extraneous noise from a home tape recorder, similar to what he did with “Get Back”.
I agree with you Mitch--it's an important distinction to make. Paul's use of the term "AI" is a bit of a misnomer here. If it means just cleaning up John's voice to make it cleaner, get rid of the buzzing noise, etc., great. I even wouldn't mind if they used the technology to fix John's voice on "Real Love" and "Free as a Bird," as I never liked the quality on those recordings. After all, the technology was limited in 1994. But there's a big difference between using the technology for clarifying John's voice and the ridiculous mixes we're seeing now where Paul sings the lead on "God Only Knows," etc. THAT I have a problem with.
@@knockedoutloaded279 not sure you are correct...the part " whatever happened to, the love that we once new" was not part of John's song and was totally written by Paul
@@ralph929 You should give a listen to John's original demo; he sings those exact words (maybe "life" instead of "love") before trailing off and playing wordless music, which Paul (with some input/consensus from George) then completed, and of course sang in the Beatles' version. They changed up some chords here and there, but the musical bones of the song were already laid out. Adrian Belew even covered the demo in its original form live in concert and got laughter and appreciative applause when he trailed off at that part. I do agree with you that Paul will add significant additional lyrics and vocals, and maybe even new sections to the song. It would be great if he managed to contribute something with his mid-90s voice or in the interim, but this is one song that could gain something emotionally from hearing old Paul singing with John (can you imagine the effect of them singing "Now and then I miss you..." together?!?).
Mitch, I look at it this way... perhaps with Now & Then, they could back it with Carnival of Light . During anthology years, and since Giles has been working with the remixed box sets, they always stated that if it was barrel scrapping, it wouldn't see the daylight ever. Even Giles stood firm on items many wanted on The Let it Be Super Deluxe Box set, flat out held his ground. However, Jeff Lynn since he produced the sessions during the mid-90s, probably went to all the parties involved saying this could be finished without diminishing the image. We shall see. If there is one item in the Beatles catalog that folks would go for is the unreleased Carnival of Light to back the new release?? Perhaps even back Now & Then with a few live songs from the Beatles 1966 Circus Krone Concert? Definitely a collector's item it would make.
I think a good "B" side would be a complete remix of either 30-year old FAAB or Real Love, using Peter Jackson's AI methods and removing all of Jeff Lynn's production. Given all the updated remixes of their catalog so far, this would make a Giles Martin remix of those two tracks credible. While I disagree with you on Now And Then as a good song, I do agree that a Jackson AI of The Star Club would be very exciting. Jackson himself is on record as saying he'd love to give that a try.
I agree with you Mitch, the vast majority of these “AI covers” popping up online don’t sound accurate and sound very unnatural/uncomfortable. However, this “acoustic” version of Paul singing ‘Eleanor Rigby’ is pretty much the only one I’ve really liked. You can still tell it’s AI, but it’s still smoother than most. It has that “rough demo” feel which is pretty neat. ruclips.net/video/VmCPM3freYc/видео.html
Actually, what I think they'll do is. the Anthology would get a rerelease. Peter Jackson recently said he's working on another Beatles project. I could see the Anthology documentary series getting remastered. And with this AI technology, they can properly remix and clean up all the pre-fame demos like That'll Be the Day/In Spite of All the Danger, the 1960 McCartney home recordings, and the Decca Audition!!! And then Now and Then would be track 1 on Anthology 3 instead of A Beginning!
Paul was always going to finish Now and Then and you knew from his comments over the years. He is 81 and better to do sooner than wait and Peter Jackson’s technology was introduced. What is left to go back to? Bigger question is how to release it. There needs to be a larger release to add it to and probably prior to Christmas. Another anthology?
Imagine the endless possibilities with AI. If they want to they can remixed the entire Anthology albums to make the various musical elements much stronger and cleaner.
Yes a lot of early Beatles songs / Starclub etc ,,,can be really cleaned up,,,early Elvis etc and John Lennon final demos;;;;will make a very big difference..........
I cannot believe fans are falling for this. It's a mediocre Lennon song that Harrison and the rest deemed not worthy of finishing or releasing it. Now with A.I. it's revisited for release? Hard pass on this. Nothing more than a cash grab intended to fool Beatles fans into believing it's the last Beatles song. What a joke.
@@johnpwrites EXACTLY. This is a long time labor of love finally coming to fruition with the blessing of EVERYONE or it would not be released. @@goplad1 will agree to disagree. I’ve heard McCartney speak about doing the last beatle song and he as always is enthusiastic and excited. McCartney is a rarity in that he’s created new music consistently for 60 years and this is another musical adventure for him. If this song was being done without him I’d agree with you. Of course people will make money but today , a single makes very little money because it streams everywhere and the artists get very little. And he’s not a household name among young people today. Many don’t know he is. The boomers like me are dying out. I see this effort as legacy versus greed although inevitably after he’s gone the vultures will exploit his name and release everything they can posthumously. @@Beatletoon I trust George Harrison’s instincts. He said it was rubbish. Paul is violating everything Beatley by sweet talking dhani and Sean. My hunch is that there is horse trading going on and they are all making side deals on things they want

But I don't know, outside of a Paul-John duet, what could be done to the track---honestly, a very rough demo---that the RUclipsrs haven't already done. Paul said it best: this is the "last Beatles song." Guys, this seems to be the end. For real, this time. I suggest we accept it as that and be grateful.
The Beatles releasing a single sixty years later is akin to bing crosbys estate releasing a new single in 1994 ie 1934 Very sad and such an opportunist ploy that makes zero sense via artistic integrity
In 1977/1978 john was desperate to write and be relevant. Now and then shows how out of touch john was musically and lyrically with the public His gift for melody was clearly lacking. It’s too bad that john didn’t record a song written for him by an old colleague. John would and should have sung lead on Barry Gibbs 1978 smash number one hit ‘single grease’ from the grease soundtrack. It would have been johns second number one and would have boosted his confidence. Barry loved john and would have been honoured for him to sing his beautiful and heartfelt lyric. While Frankie valli did a decent turn on vocal john would have made it a monster😮
Was John offered Grease???? John final demos show he still had jis talent for lyrics and melody,,,,Now and Then is beautful chords and melody under all of the bad hiss sound/////I'm sure Beatles single will be fantastic...and put John back into the mainstream.......

There are a couple of very professionally done versions of Now and Then already on RUclips. Bravo Paul McCartney for finally finishing it up.
This is not a beatle song. It’s a Lennon demo this is as outrageous and wrong as AI Paul singing alone again naturally or Vienna or don’t ask me why. Dhani Olivia or Sean are not Beatles. George said no. This is an outrage. Anybody who is not respecting George wishes is outrageous. An insult to George
It is not the Beatles. It’s artificial and fake. It’s a crappy john Lennon demo. It will sell very poorly. It’s a bad song. It’s shameful. And beatle fans should be outraged and appalled
